Getting Tired Of Being Penalized When Actively Playing when a DC Happens
Twice this week (and many times before), I am actively participating in games, such as carry survs to a hook, or working on a gen as surv and I get "Connection to Server Lost" - Every thing else is fine but your game kicks me out for whatever reason and I am penalized… Tonight I got a -3 and a matchmaking lock when I lost connection to server while actively carrying a survivor. My discord was still active, my internet loaded up just fine to come here.. the issue is your end and I hate getting penalized for it.
There has got to be some way for your system to see people did NOT disconnect on purpose - such as working gens, healing, carrying survivors, etc - I actually rarely dc intentionally - Yes I do once in awhile on survivor when it is a lost cause and I get hooked the first time and see no one coming to get me and I go to second and about to die - but I do this VERY rarely.. and I accept the consequences. But when I am playing killer, I NEVER intentionally DC if game is going bad or I have a full bully squad. I will just go to a corner and let them finish and leave, I won't dc on killer ever, I refuse to give them that satisfaction! I was winning the match tonight and actually going to let them all out after 2 hooks.. but instead.. I got a harsh DC penalty because it is not the first time it has happened this week.

No, from a technological viewpoint it is impossible to, for example, differentiate between a power outage on your end or you simply turning off your router/wifi.
The signal the server is expecting is simply going dark and the game Client Software isn't made to verify why.
The ONLY things that would work is either when the client crashes on your end and the software takes note of that and sends a report or the server has problems and has diagnostics for that and would revoke the DC penalty in that case.
Well every time it happens, I get the error, click okay and I go to the main screen, not back to the lobby screen.. so that should say something right there. I don't crash to desktop and the whole game is not closed.
I would guess that the error message you get reads something along the lines of "Connection to server lost." Aka the signal went dark for whatever reason and the software on either side can't make an educated guess what the reason was. Therefore you end up with a penalty.
And like I said, if the whole client crashed and send you to your desktop, many other games can create a crash report which then could be sent to the bhvr server to revoke a ban.
Well...
If every time you get "server error" is when you were winning/carrying/just downed someone as Killer, then it's very possible a hacker crashed the server on purpose (because yes they can do that, happened to me a few times and your post isn't the first of its kind).
Just like hackers are able to give the "suspicious behavior" warning by killing everyone near-instantly as Killer, hackers can force the server to crash.
Funny how these “connection issues” always happen at the perfect moment. If there’s no reliable detection or protection, then of course people will keep abusing it. At least after 10 years we have a valid competent cheat protection system in place and the topic is frequently mentioned on any roadmaps xD
If there's an issue on the backend affecting many players, they can and probably will address it. There's not going to be a network issue in Behavior's AWS tenant that is solely affecting you or a small handful of players. It's not plausible. It's likely that you're dropping packets somewhere along the way. May not be something you or BHVR can fix
There is obviously an issue with their detection system.. today I had a tunnelling Bubba when I was playing survivor, I was out of the match in 3 minutes… I was looping (to the best of my poor ability), I was wiggling while being carried, and I was hitting the skill checks when I got on second hook. He got me a 3rd time.. not far from a hook, no other survivors close, so no I did not wiggle, there was no chance of getting loose… I went down an entire grade. I posted a video of the last DC and the whole match with the tunnelling Bubba on TikTok (GrimorieGranny) - it is clear in both videos I did nothing wrong… other than play badly at survivor and trying to be nice on killer.
I had it happen to me recently. Saw a survivor stuttering and teleporting around, so I checked my connection and ping was fine...10 seconds later the server had a stroke. Game didnt crash and internet was still on, but every now and then the server has a hiccup on ITS end and im staring at the score screen.
This happens to me almost only when playing killer, almost always during an action too, like kicking a gen or putting someone on a hook. And it 100% only happens when I'm winning. Never once has it saved me from a losing match.
I've seen it happen to another killer only once that I can recall. It was a Nurse who started rubber banding and sliding along walls. The rest of us were able to move fine, though on her end it probably didn't look that way.
It's pretty obnoxious but I can deal with it as long as I don't get a random 0k from it, which sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't. Luckily it doesn't happen to me enough for a penalty.
I wonder if its a leftover from the peer 2 peer days with the killer being host in the og days. Perhaps it's another reason they are doing the recode coz the networking is very yikes in DBD lol
I agree completely.
Quite frankly, if the game can't differentiate between someone intentionally disconnecting mid game and THEIR SERVERS having a problem and kicking people from a game, there shouldn't be any DC penalty at all. Like I'm sorry, I know that isn't a popular opinion but it's a hill I'll die on. The DC penalty shouldn't exist, and the fact that the penalty is entirely automated, cannot be appealed and the devs aren't willing to do anything about it is appalling.
People need to get that "Dedicated Server not Responding" does not automatically mean its the servers fault it literally just means you did not get respond from the server and most likely the server did not get respond of you either. They should make it state something else as clearly people read it to mean its the servers fault.
Had this happen a couple times.
I can't stand the DC penalty and I take it as a sign to log off for the day. Just make sure you're timer actually activates or when you log back on you will still have DC penalty…
The floggings will continue until morale improves!
Yeah it's hard for me not to think the problem is me when I'm always killer and killer is the host. I don't get randomly booted out of my SWF matches while everyone else is still there.
