Coldwind maps dev comments.

Have the dev's spoken out specifically about Coldwinds intensely bright map? Every other discussion post about coldwind is turn down the brightness, can't see anything, give it back the dark aesthetic. Have the dev's actually spoken out about it? Or is it just something they have yet to comment on?

i will admit old coldwind looked so much better from what i saw

  • They definitely had a very eerie look to it and in many ways subjectively better. The 'recolor' is just very intense and hard to see anything because it's so bright. Especially red aura's on a yellow background.

my poor eyes are sensitive to light, so coldwind impairs me a little lol

  • we are getting a complete overhaul to the lighting and graphics in the maps coming late 2027. from what they’ve shown, macmillan is going back to its more og atmosphere with the blue lighting. so hopefully when the update comes out, the coldwind realm will be similar to what we had back in the day since it’s pretty much unanimous amongst the community that the old lighting/atmosphere of coldwind should be brought back.

  • As @MoZo already mentioned, even if the Colwind maps are too bright right now, with the graphics overhaul that could always change then. At the very least, there will be a dynamic weather system with the graphics overhaul (which will be sick as hell and is probably my favorite part of the new announcements) which means we can have Coldwind in stormy weather

For real, I dont think anyone actually prefers daytime Coldwind. I used to joke a few years ago that the game is becoming brighter and brighter every year and at some point they should call it "Dead in Daylight". And then they dropped the Coldwind Farm rework and it being in daytime…

I really, really hope that the graphical overhaul gives it back its old atmosphere. Lighting on Coldwind was never an issue to begin with, the bigger issue has always been corn blindness until they fixed it, but the brightness of the maps was never problematic.

  • The funny thing is this is probably something we presumably wouldn't have to wait until the update for. For those around when the knight first dropped borgo used to be in Caelid for some reason, it was an unbelievably red map and not nice to look at. This changed I believe with the Lich release to what we have now so presumably they could make coldwind dark again they just haven't.

Of course they would be able to do so. I guess people are just now guessing that this will be the biggest chance that a change will happen.

  • Imagine a day/night cycle on the Coldwinds, where as survs are sacrificed the map gradually changes from dark night to daytime. Actual Dead By Daylight 🤔

  • My guess was they were wanting to bring the feel closer to Texas Chainsaw's original film with the brighter look, which is fun, but it'd be nice if maybe different map variants had the different times of day to really set them apart maybe.

I just want every daytime map to turn into a night map, like Ormond would look so cool as like a haunted vacation home or a spooky warehouse.

Its weird how I remember people being so excited about the daylight coldwind just because...different I guess? I always hated it

This is what I like about current Coldwind, that it's basically a budget TCM setting. I'd be happy with variants but I still like the sunny version.

  • I don't mind a sunny version once in a while, particularly Thompson House. I just would like both
