Compared to the Archives, Quests are a joke.
It's been awhile now and quests are still as boring as ever. The archives actually gave you a goal during the matches since the challenges were more on the niche side, but quests you just passively complete. Who here actually clicks on the quest tab to look at what there is to do? I was disappointed with the initial change and now that quests haven't gotten anything new or interesting, I wish we had the old archive system back.

This is a good thing. The Archives were awful and just meant that if you were unlucky enough to que into a lobby with someone whose quest was to throw the match for a thousand bloodpoints you just lost and there was nothing you could do. If you are that desperate for a challenge just do the archive quests again, you won't get anything from it but whatever. We should not be incentivizing people to throw games.
I disagree.
The old system was alright, but some archives are so absurd, that you basically need to go completely out of your way to achieve them. That paired with solo q and you are in for a frustrating disaster.
The other thing is that you mainly get bp for archives as well. Yes, there were little charms at the end of each page of the tome, but the main reward is bp.
Same for quests. The main reward is bp. And now you have badges and banners instead of charms on certain steps.
And tbh, for rewards of this basic "quality" I don't want to "Take 3 protection hits in one trial as David King while having No Mither equipped and hiding in a locker when the last gen gets finished and escape the trial".
It feels more natural that you progress with just playing the game itself.
That's why dbd should bring back the original ranking system and have an unranked and ranked mode
What does that solve? Truly? Ranked or unranked it's still not fun playing a 3v1.
It solves doing archives in unranked mode and being competitive and actually trying in ranked mode
Again, it's still not fun to play with someone doing archives. You are saying that it's fine to make three out of four people's experiences worse to maybe make one person's experience better.
Calling quests boring implies the previous older system wasn't. The old system had the fatal flaw of forcing a player to throw a match to complete.
Think this is a case of rose color glasses.
It's not just nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses. The old system at least offered variety, instead of repeating the same 10-15 tasks or so, over and over again. It does get old, really fast.
The current quest system could use more variety and it could easily be added. Ripping out the current system for the older isn't a solution. There were many issues with the old system that quests fixed. One being forced to complete a node before being able to complete another. Or being locked out of nodes behind nodes you couldn't/don't want to complete.
The old tome challenge system absolutely was more interesting and interactive. It also resulted in the frustration of being incentivized to throw matches and having your teammates constantly throwing matches every time a new tome dropped.
It is kind of looking through rose-colored glasses in that some people are remembering the upsides while forgetting the downsides, which were much more notable.
It was changed for a good reason; I'll take the boring challenge system that almost feels like it isn't there over the one that routinely ruins games and leads to players being irritated with each other (even more than they already are).
I still can't get over calling them 'quests' in a game like this.
I mean yes, that system was flawed.
The ideal solution would be to have more of the challenges from the old tomes integrated into the current system, with the higher BP rewards as well.
I also wish they could bring back the good old daily rituals, since they offered variety in terms of characters. Granted some of them were a bit silly in terms of requirements, but they were good incentives to switch up your killers/survivors from time to time. Unlike the current daily "quests" that repeats every day, and offers zero variety.
