Visual MMR Idea

So i recantly switched back to Hunt Showdown cause DBD dosn't get me the Motivation to even play one match right now. So i remembered that in Hunt the MMR is shown to the Players with Stars from 1* to 6* this is devided in Personal Rating and Match Rating. (4* Personal MMR, 3* Match MMR) Wouldn't it be a good Idea to put something simmilar in DBD for the Endscreen? So People would also see there MMR they're in and if the Lobby was fair or not.

Also so the players would know where they are and not say under every post "actualy i'm in high mmr" i think it would be a great QOL feature

I hate it when someone quickfires a "oh yeah? well im in higher mmr then you" and i cant tell if they are speaking the truth or not,

  • Okay, but how then will I be able to comfort myself after a loss by presuming I was facing people way outside of my MMR bracket? /s

On a serious note, it would be nice to guage people beyond their prestige level, although I suspect the lowest number in the lobby will take blame regardless of who made mistakes.

okay how woud a overal match mmr (vissible to anybody) be and the personal (only visible for yourself)

That could work without too much issue, although I'm sure some bad-faith people will be like "I'm 6* and lobby average was 4* gg soloq" but at least that isn't targeted so they can go ahead and say that if they want.

I have been in lobbies where I was super outmatched, and also been in lobbies where I was clearly above the other players. It's much more noticeable on the killer side because you interact with all the survivors very directly by comparison. I definitely see mismatches like this when I've filled into a lobby with multiple survivors already readied up. An average at the end would make those sting a bit less imo.

  • The reason why MMR isn't shown is because this is supposed to be a party game and people at lower MMR would be given an incentive to try hard. "Like oh I'm basically in Bronze right now time to grind to Grandmaster." People would also be insufferable and complain soo much if they realized they weren't actually going against Team Eternal every match with 3 Sprint Burst. Instead its just a baby Leon and his friends holding W and cosplaying as Re characters.

  • Before my time they kind of had something similar with the (now meaningless) grade system acting as a kind of ranking system. But from what I understand, even in those days players would complain about their lobbies being full of "rainbow ranks". But at least you could see it if was working as intended or not.

There was also the argument that at the end of the month, the higher ranks would eventually become meaningless because everyone who played enough would reach the top rank and so you would still be getting some imbalanced trials. There's also the race back to Iri/red at the start of a reset, which probably made the games feel sweatier (like I said, I wasn't playing back then but this happens in other games with ranked modes, so I could see it happening in DBD as well).

Why BHVR changed the system from one that didn't work well but was visible to the one that also doesn't work well but is invisible is anyone's guess. That said, I barely play enough to get out of ash rank at the moment, so I'd be curious to see what my games would feel like if we still had the old system.

  • You're mistaken what the MMR score is for. It's not to make you feel good, (if it's even high), it's there for the most loose matchmaking in PvP gaming history.

No, it will be a terrible idea. Have you seen this community? A P3-50 used to be trouted like a status symble before bhvr reworked the prestige system. Now we get P100 as the pinnacle of skill. Lets not throw another useless stat that will be used to argue why someone is right on the Internet.

I know what I'm talking about. I have a P100 Nurse after all.

  • I've never liked this idea for a couple reasons. First, MMR is based on such narrow criteria (kills and gate escapes) that it's basically a pointless system and doesn't indicate skill. Second, this community is already so bad about using this number they can't even see to boost their own opinions and lower everyone else's. So many people in this forum know for a fact that they're upper MMR and they also know for a fact that everyone who disagrees with them must be lower. As much as I'd love to see some of those people get humbled, the ones who actually are upper MMR will use it as some sort of authority badge to reduce the views anyone who disagrees with them.

  • I would love this but lobby dodging would have to be penalized.
