Returning Killer "Rant"

A long time ago DBD was my absolute go-to-game. I started playing it with the Halloween chapter. I liked asymetrical gameplay, repetetive gameplay which changed depending on the human players. I likrd the powerrole and became a killermain.

The game changed over time and literally every patch was 1 step forward and 2 steps back for the killers. Until it was unbearable to play and I left for good and deinstalled the game. That was, when the Twins came out.

I started a Trapper Main and ended as a Doctor Main.

I played through the metaperk time of the holy trinity of SC/DS/SB, the FOV bug, that got declared a feature later, same with the T-Rex arms and of course the change of the collision boxes (birth of looping).

Lately a friend told me that the gamebalance became better and the game is enjoyable again for killermains. So I gave it a try. Ok, it feels slightly more balanced now, but most of the core issues are still there. Back in the old days, killer been so powerful that you really started to toy with the survivors. If you played sweaty you got 4Ks every match. When I left the game I was hardly able to geet a single K no matter how try hard I played. Now it's "ohkaay". I "win" most matches (3+K is a win in my book), but sometimes I still get sometimes into situations where I ask myself "######### did the Devs do this?". And the lobby times for killer are now the way they used to be for survivors.

But with the recent calls to action against "gen camping" and "tunneling", I consider deinstalling again.

If there are so explicit rules on how I have to play, where is my free will to play however I like? That's what's making a repetetive PVP game exciting. And don't let me get started about the toxic survivor. I just finished a match and got accussed of everything I tried to avoid in that match. I got called a tunneler and a skillless 3 Gener. Despite I dropped chases or switched targets mid chase multiple times to, if I noticed that I followed the last hook survivor. I ran across the map to avoid kicking the same gen to often, making best use of oppression + overcharge. And survivor still claim that I camp and tunnel.

What else should I do? I was patrolling gens, chasing survivor and alway the farest gens popped, so my patrol circle became smaller. Is that my fault? It's easier to find and follow a bleeding and grunting survivor, than a healthy one. That's a part of the game for crying out loud. Why is that camping and tunneling?

I started playing this game befor looping and juking even been a thing.Windows and pallets been your only chance to get away. And despite the surviors got ever more and more tools against the killer, the amount of pallets hasn never really changed (Oh, my bad, there was a "feature" for less pallets, where 50% of all pallets disappeared. That was soon declared a bug and got fixed within days).

So, I just wanted to vent off. Comment if you like. Explain to me why all this is good progress and why I should keep playing or rather not. I think, the charm of PvP games in a nutshell is, that every game is different with every humans style of play. If that goes, just use bots. I am disappointed every time I realice there is a survivor bot in my match. Same with asymetrical games, if you can't handle an opponent in the powerrole, when he is alone and you have teammates, than go play a different kind of games and stop complaining that the solo player is to strong, fighting a team of 4!

Yet, I haven't even started about the killer powercreep and I refuse to buy new ones, because the times I supported BHVR with my money have not returned yet.

  • First time I've ever heard someone claim that Killer was powerful and easy back in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Like I said. No looping or juking, if you got close enough the survivor could spin his controls all he wanted, you got a hit. Most annoying survivor perks haven't even existed. I played basement trapper with IG + AGI along with stuff like BH or Whispers and WON (4K).

This is either ragebait or you have no idea how the game played out several years ago. Survivor was at its easiest in the first 4 years of the game. Anyone genuinely claiming Killer was easier back then would uninstall just from one match of playing, even with broken builds like machine gun Huntress or insta saw Billy it was still a challenge to kill Survivors.

  • I'm always puzzled by these complaints that say things like, "I usually win but I'm still mad." Kinda negates everything else.

Buy who cares if people say rude things? I get constant insults, whether I win or lose, despite playing fair. You're playing the role that's the center of attention so youre going to get some. Just ignore them, turn off chat, or play anon if it bothers you to that extent.

And the changes are good because soloq is miserable and that's probably how most survivors are playing, and if you dont have 80% of your players choosing survivor at any given time then there's no game. Survivor can't be endlessly terrible.

It's also safe to say that the devs have a massive stack of data in front of then that we'll never see and that's what they're basing the changes off of.

Honestly, are you talking about like the first few weeks of DBD? Looping was found out to be the best way of playing as Survivor rather quickly back then. And with all those Pallets and broken structures, it was way harder for Killer to get a Down.

And I dont know, if you currently win most of your games, but still complain that there are things in the game where you wonder why the Devs implemented those, this sounds more like you want to win even more. And well, that Killer queues are long is mainly because of 2v8, but also because Survivor has been miserable for quite some time now, which the Devs now try to address.

  • I love hearing from players who started all the way back then. It's always interesting to hear their perspective on the changes.

I wonder how looping was invented, like you mentioned. I watched videos of Markiplier from 2016 playing dbd but also it's really hard to imagine dbd without it.

The Game was totally different back than. Survivor needed to hide and avoid the killer. People choose their survivor depending on how visible the outfit was. No Rodeo Clowns.

  • Mmhโ€ฆ somehow I messed up the quotes and the system won't let me edit.

Plz ignore the strange edits. ๐Ÿ˜›

I am not up to date with the current matchmaking system, but when I quit it was like that: start of a season you Level up in ranks. Low Ranking been easy for killer, but when you hit a certain rank, you hit a wall and it reversed. Only sweaty loop pro 4 Swf guys. The season reset only dropped your rank a little an kept you closer and closer to the wall, if you did not derank on purpose (what messed up other players (Survivors) game experience). So the whole gamebalance was about what could lowskill survivor do and how do we Limit high still killer. Now I have the impression to play just random groups. So the issues with the balance is still there.

Looping: the collisionboxes -the collisionbox was for interaction with objects- of killer and survivor had been the same size. When the devs decided to make the survivors collisionbox smaller, math kicked in. The path for the smaller object around an obstacle is shorter, than that of a larger object. This lessend the killers speed advantage compared to a chase on open field significantly.

Also there was no exhaustion, just a cooldown, survivor could extend chases so far, that they could use perks like SB 2 times in 1 chase and there was no bloodlust speed boost for killer in the game.

And survivors risked getting hit, if they tried to drop the pallet for the stun. Basically a double hit, the killer hit and was stunned on the other side of the pallet anyway. Devs removed that, because survivor complained about it as a "glitched hit".

If you want to go down that rabidhole, I tell you about how juking became a thing next. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I do! Please tell me more!

All of this sounds so interesting! I wish I was there for that transition
