Spawning hatch at two survivors instead of one ?

The title might get some heated up, so let me explain

One of the things I really don’t like when I’m playing survivor is waiting on the ground for 4 minutes to bleed out (or hiding for 4 minutes for my teammate to bleed out) because the killer wants the 4k and doesn’t want the standing survivor to get hatch (sometimes made longer if the standing survivor picks up the downed one). Slugging for the 4k is not something I resonate with, but it’s in the game, and some people do it. It’s just annoying to me

One of the things I really don’t like when I’m playing killer is going around and around and around looking for the two last survivors that are just vibing and hiding, each one waiting for the other to die so they can have a chance at hatch. It is also something I don’t resonate with, but again, it’s in the game, and some people do it. It’s just annoying to me.

So what I’m proposing isn’t of course to have two survivors escape through hatch, but have it spawn at 2 live survivors, and, just like in 2v8, if a survivor escapes through it, it closes. Probably shouldn’t be open-able with a key anymore at that point, and I think it would also be fair to make it so that the gates are quite harder to open if the hatch has been closed (at least if it was closed this way, and maybe if it was closed in any way), maybe with a remember me-like effect, or a no way out-like effect, or maybe by giving the killer a speed boost when in the path in-between the two gates. Or maybe even straight out killing the other survivor

The idea being that now if there is only two survivors remaining, they have no reason to hide, and even if they do, the killer can find hatch and start EGC. Arguably, maybe sometimes you’ll see 3 survivors hiding instead of 2 survivors hiding, but I think it’s less likely (you’d have to have 3 ppl on the same page), and it’s also easier to find one survivor amongst 3 hiding compared to one survivor amongst 2.

And on the other side of the match, now the killer doesn’t have a reason to slug at 2 survivors, since the hatch already spawned anyways. Arguably, the killer might start to slug at 3 survivors alive, but I think it’s more of a gamble than at 2, and survivors would be able to fight back to some degree. So still possible, but much more risky, as it could convert in an easier 2 out for the survivors.

I think that would solve the two issues I mentioned I have on both sides. But maybe I’ve overlooked something, or maybe those are just issues for me and not for most people. Or maybe I’m on the minority of people that don’t really care for specifically 4k.

So feel free to tell me if you think it’s stupid ! (or if you think it’s a good idea, but maybe not this way)

    So basically, killers don't deserve a 3k, let alone a 4k.

Hatch is already an obnoxious mechanic. I don't need more of it to be honest.

Maybe the best fix to hatch isn't to increase the amount of it by 100%, but decrease the amount by 100%.

Less people would slug for the 4k if they felt like they got what they worked for. Hatch is a 50/50, + a gate gamble. Some gates are so far apart, or even far from the hatch, that you can't even hold W to it to interrupt the survivor.

Imagine if the killer had a button that randomly spawned on the map upon 5 gens being done. When you press this button, a random survivor dies. The killer loses no MMR from that survivor and that survivor gains no MMR for escaping either.

That’s not what I said at all ; you might want to give it a read again. I even suggested that we could kill the remaining survivor if the hatch is closed.

But if you want, we can remove the hatch entirely indeed. And have the last survivor take the game hostage forever again because of no EGC. Because I assume that if we still have EGC when the 3rd survivor dies, you’ll complain that the last survivor can get the exit gates.

Yes, it’s a 50/50 + a gate gamble. So you can just not care about it and just consider it a win anyways, since it’s a game of luck at that point. Why would you care when you already won ?

I don’t know what analogy you are trying to make with that button. The hatch spawns when there is one survivor left, not when all gens are done. If you meant the same button that spawned when there was only one survivor left in place of the hatch I wouldn’t mind from either side. Also, why are we talking about MMR ? Why do we care about our MMR rating ?

But to take analogies, imagine if there was a perk both sides had access to, that said "press ability button 1. All players are frozen into place and their interactions are paused for 4 minutes". Wouldn’t be super fun, would it ?

The problem is, adjusting Hatch in any way, INCLUDING your removal suggestion, makes one of the sides feel much worse.

Taking away Hatch would increase survivors giving up or hiding around, because most of the time, you can't do anything as the last survivor, just find it or die.

  • And for the record, I wouldn’t mind something like the killer being able to see the hatch aura 20s after it spawned, or when he is 20m or closer to it, or maybe when he is 40m or further away from it. And then both survivors dying if the killer closes it

I'd like to pose a solution to a problem that has been in the game since its inception: the lack of options, boredom and perceived unfairness of matches that enter the 1v2 before the exit gates have been powered. As Survivor, this situation leaves you with very little to do: if gens aren't close to completion, you either wait around for your teammate to die for hatch, or your teammate is slugged for the Killer to find you and 4k. As Killer, when one Survivor is downed you wait for them to die and hope to find the other, or slug and waste even more of your time looking for a stealthing Survivor for the 4k. Neither of these options are very enjoyable for either side, nor do they lead to any interesting interactions or decisions during gameplay. When one Survivor is hooked you enter a lose-lose as Survivor, and a very boring use of your time as Killer.

My suggestion to help make this stage of the game more interesting is very straightforward: when there are only two Survivors left alive in the trial, one of the available Exit Gates will be powered (the other will be blocked by the Entity). Any remaining Survivor can use and escape through this gate, however it would be considered the same as a Hatch escape, meaning neither the Survivor or Killer's MMR is changed. All generators on the map would remain unaffected: Survivors can continue working on them and if completed, power the second Exit Gate and consider escaping through them a win.

This would add a lot more decision making and meaning to the 1v2:

    - with an option for the Survivors to escape, the Killer will have a hot spot to find Survivors who would otherwise be stealthing, and add tension to a game that may have otherwise been an uninteresting one-sided win (or avoid boredom from Survivors who refuse to interact). With only one powered Exit Gate, you can keep an eye on a high-risk high-reward area without risking the Survivors using the second gate and escaping completely without counterplay. You can still commit to a chase with one Survivor and secure 3 kills if you catch them quickly, or slug as normal and look for the fourth Survivor at the gate for 4 kills.

    - as Survivor, in a game that may have been previously hopeless, you now have the opportunity to use your looping skills and buy time for a teammate to escape early, or risk committing to generator repair for a safer gate open and a winning game state. If your teammate is hooked, rather than the correct play always being to let them die for your own safety, you can risk attempting a hook save and sacrifice yourself for their escape or gen efficiency (with one powered gate the Killer may have more incentive to leave the hook and allow an unhook opening).

This change would mean that more Killer games lead to 2 or 1 escapes that may not have previously happened, but currently I feel this part of the game is wholly unrewarding, uninteresting and unfun for both sides. The achievement of 3 or 4 kills is largely dulled and dragged out by the wasted time looking for Survivors in a match thats already functionally over, and Survivors have no remaining stakes or meaningful plays they can make. A steamroll game from the Killer has potential for a real comeback for Survivors, and certain close games have the option between a safer but hollow escape for Survivor or ability to stay in the trial and risk a properly deserved escape.

just to be clear, this is a suggestion designed to add more engaging gameplay and decision making for both sides during 1v2, not intended to rebalance the kill rates, game or MMR system.

i also have a post about the frustrating parts of 1v2 if you want to have a look 🙂

  • That would feel so bad and nearly impossible to get 4k unless you slug last 3 survivors.

I would like hatch to reveal when all gens are finished, but definetly not open.

This suggestion basically bring back the situation of old keys, which was one of most obnoxious things in history of DBD and you want that basekit…

I don’t think that would be even remotely close to old hatch & keys, since that would still only allow for a single survivor to escape through hatch, or maybe for a single survivor to escape at all (if the other survivor is killed instantly when hatch closes behind the first one).

And the hatch would also not be available until endgame, regardless of the amount of gens done compared to number of dead survivors.

  • For it to be fair, u'd need closing hatch to not power gates.

For this reason, I'd suggest killing the last survivor if 3rd one escapes and kill both survivors if killer finds the hatch and not all the gens (or all but last one?) are already done. That way it's about who finds the hatch instead of waiting for inevitable death possibly because MM screwed up (imagine 2 survivors 1hour each with 2 10K hrs survivors vs 300hrs killer that tunnels those novice survivors - the experienced ones are doomed to loose even if they are way better at the game) as is current state.

This way killer has reasonable chance to 4K (about 40% depending on killer and if survivors are not slugged) and one of survivors still has some chance to escape.

Otherwise it looks reasonable to me at first look.

I think not having the exit gate powered sounds fair, but the issue would be that it would either still start the EGC (in which case it sounds hopeless for the remaining survivor), or not (in which case the last survivor is likely to just hide forever).

So I think I’d rather have the last survivor killed immediately, in that case ; maybe with an exception if the exit gates were already powered, so that the last survivor doesn’t get screwed over by a team mate ? Not sure tho

Altho I didn’t realize people were so adamant about getting the 4k in general, I just thought I was unlucky in my games. I guess a easier fix (easier as in, keeping the status quo) would be to allow the survivors to abandon if they are on the ground or on hook while there is only one other survivor. Which unfortunately only fixes one side of it and not the part where two survivors are hiding.

Maybe for that part they could lower the abandon timer for the killer when there is only two survivors alive ? idk

Fact that it's not connected to number of gens compare to dead survivors makes it worse imo.
That means, I would always have to deal with this situation, where I am highly unlikely to win.

Even if I find hatch first, it's unlikely to end with 4k. Gates would get powered and survivors just need to split and start open both gates, then I find one survivor and they can try to reach other gate.

Majority of games would be 2/3k even if killer was winning, where it's simply outside of killers control.
If you would kill second survivor when one escape, or both if killer finds hatch, then it kinda sucks for survivors imo.

When I play survivor, I’d rather die instantly when the game is over so I can go next, rather than wait for 3 to 10 mins in a cycle of "picking up survivor - being slugged on the ground" where I, in fact, don’t really get to play the game imho

Then do it and go to killer and force locker. Majority of them will hook you.

I really don't believe every killer you play against is going to slug you no matter what.
And if they slug other survivor, just run into killer so they down you and you can DC.

No need to make it worse for everyone, because you don't want to deal with it.

  • Hatch is just an outdated mechanic atp would rather play my teammate in RPS to decide who gets out instead of playing the 2v1 on either side

In my experience, if the killer start slugging, they will almost always drop you if you force a locker grab

I never said it was always happening. But just because it’s not always like that doesn’t mean it’s not an issue that could be solved. If 1% of the time you went into a room with people inside you’d got punch, I think that would be an issue worth trying to fix. The fact that it’s only 1% doesn’t matter. And it does happen often ; I would say probably about what, 10% of the matches or something like that, counting only those where I’m amongst the last 2 survivor.

As for survivors hiding, doesn’t happen that often anymore, but it’s still a pain when it happens

I don’t think it would make it worse for everyone. And I don’t think I’m the only one that’s annoyed by it. Just because it’s not annoying you doesn’t mean it’s not annoying to others

Ok, so with that logic time to nerf full SWF… You have so many things that kinda are issue, but doesn't happen often enough to be considered one.

Just because it’s not annoying you doesn’t mean it’s not annoying to others

New DC system gave you easy way to fix your issue. Just let killer down you and you can DC. Bleeding out is not a thing anymore unless survivors allow it.

It’s up to you to decide if you want to bring up the issues you have with SWF or not. If you think it’s fine enough, then it’s fine enough. If you think it’s worth bringing up, it’s worth bringing up. As far as I understood, that’s exactly what this category is for : "feedback and suggestions". Doesn’t have to be correct, doesn’t have to be agreeable, and doesn’t have to be implemented, it’s just what I think about this issue

And no, that’s not how it works. In fact that’s exactly what I referred to in my reply to Gandor : "Altho I didn’t realize people were so adamant about getting the 4k in general, I just thought I was unlucky in my games. Currently, you can DC without penalty if and only if both survivors have been in the dying state/on hook simultaneously. Which does not happen when I’m getting slugged and my fellow teammate is hiding
