Why is it...
When I play killer and get looped for 3 to 4 gens, but play survivor and teammates go down within 10 seconds of a chase? What I'm I doing wrong?

It's the reknown MMR system in action! Seems like you're experiencing the best it has to offer.
As far as killer goes, you can't commit too long to a chase. Sometimes you just simply get rid of whatever pallet they have and go for another generator/survivor. I also suggest avoiding loops you identify you have problems with and look up how to deal with them later via many tutorials/videos people have made.
Survivor is always going to be a mixed bag. I still get survivors who unhook in the killers face, refuse to bodyblock and let you get tunneled.
Sounds like your killer mmr just might be higher than your survivor one.
Chase is the star of this game, but map knowledge is actually required. After all, 60% of improving game comes from understanding the map.
If you are being looped for 3 - 4 gens your killer play is not great, MMR is screwing you and you are making bad decisions as you should be dropping chase well before that.
Pretty sure matchmaking gives priority to finding faster matches over accurate matchmaking too.
i think this is not thread topic but what do you think about strength of the shadow? I recall you saying that self-healing should never be viable mechanic. What do you think about new update that makes self-healing a viable mechanic?
This, simply put. Killer and survivor have different MMRs.
Yeah for the health of the game it can never be good. I’ll have to test it out to see myself before I give too strong of an opinion on it. The basement sounds risky at face value but very rarely are killers just randomly checking the basement. Also seems very map dependent. Some maps the basement is way out of the way and it looks bad but others have a very centrally located basement where it’s always easy to get to.
I lean towards it still being weak and not an issue since it’s only a little better from PTB testing but PTB is generally not accurate testing as the players are much worse then you’d get on live so we’ll have to see.
If I'm being generous to BHVR I'd say your killer MMR is much higher than your survivor MMR.
Realistically though it's just the terrible matchmaking most likely.
My experience is the same, genrushing, god loopers, pallet and flashbang saves, full bodyblock. Yet when i play solo i could load into garden of joy and spawn next to a gen so i run straight to the gen and the time a quarter of its done my teammates have been found, hit then downed in the space of 30 seconds.
You should never get looped for 3-4 gens unless you are playing as a bottom five M1 killer like Freddy against actual strong survivors.
The only reason why this could be the case is bad matchmaking.
Personal experience:
It is not uncommon that i have teammates who are on a high skillelvel and have 7.000+ hours, and even tho we are winning, the round, i get next match survivors with less then 1.000 hours while the killer is a P100 Nurse (actually happend!)
Same goes for killer. Most of the time i destroy survivors with 2-3 gens up, and then, once every blue moon, a team with combined 30.000 hours rolles in. And the very next match... i am not exaggerating, survivors with combined 2000 hours.
The heck?
Honestly, unless a killer is a late-blooming killer, if we can't down survivor within the first minute, we loses half the fight. Most of the time this happens when the survivors are not very good or we use top tier killers.
Yeah same for me. As survivor, I'm always carrying it seems (never used to) yet when I play as killer, they give me a much tougher run and I have to actually try. Even lights out made me work for wins.
i am saying this because strength of the shadow is circle of healing without any setup. The location is always the basement. my leaning is that killer will have little to no pressure on the match with sloppy change and potent self-healing.
Well I wouldn’t compare it to CoH as one of the biggest issues with CoH is that it’s 1 perk for the entire team while this still requires each survivor to run it. That’s a big difference by itself. Also placements of CoH were significantly more convenient than the basement is on average going to be.
Like I said it still may actually be too good, I’ll have to test it more. First impression is it won’t be that much of an issue though. I could be totally wrong.
