Why do people say/type PGTW
-Pop is 3 letters, PGTW is 4, Pop is shorter to type
-Pop is already a word, so "Pop a gen" makes sense, "PGTW a gen" does not
-As an initialization, "pee-gee-tee-doubleyou" is actually longer to say than the full name of the perk, let alone just "pop"
-as an acronym, how do you even pronounce it? P'guttawuh? it makes you sound like you're turning into a murlock

i really don´t know, STBFL is another one, saying Save the best is somehow faster than saying ´´Estabeefoole´´ (or something like that)
Yeah I always just say "save"
I mean you can say it as "stabiffle" which is honestly not too-too bad, but "save" or "save the best" just sounds so much less awkward

I use pop as well. - Though I do think it can get abiguous when the call is "he's gonna pop the gen" ; he a male surv who's completing the gen or he the killer who is applying pgtw? On comms you usually know the context - but in written form I can see how being more specific is being on the safe side.
same for stbfl. I say save on comms but use stbfl outside the match, especially in writing.
STBFL is certainly quicker than typing "Save the best for last". I have no idea who would say "Ess Tee Bee Ef El" out loud though.
save the best and "stabiffle" are actually the same amount of syllables so they'd take the same amount of time to say
I personally now call it "stabiffle" when playing on voice chat with others so it's not confused for "save" as in "go get the hook save", since that has actually happened before and that mistake cost us the game lmao
I think it depends on whether you tend to verbally discuss topics, or through text. Acronyms are difficult to pronounce unless they are conveniently pronouncable by coincidence (NOED), so you don't see content creators use acronyms often. Abbrevations (Pop) are more favoured, for obvious reasons.
Us Forumites, however, are not typically discussing verbally, so we're free to use acronyms. On that same token, though, you're not gonna find such acronyms in spaces that aren't dedicated to DbD as a topic. It's jargon at its purest. Indecipherable if you aren't familiar with the context. It also carries connotations of "We know what we're talking about," for better or worse.
Gaming discourse in general loves its acronyms, likely because it's mostly discussed through text. At some point, though, it starts to backfire, especially when you get multiple terms that result in the same acronym (PT: Prove Thyself, or Plot Twist?) And with the sheer number of acronyms, people will eventually start to lose track.
Other, simpler factors include which one you heard first, which one feels better, and which one is easier to type.
It is pretty fun that a player can come here and say a survivor was using DH, DS, UB and BT while the killer was running STBFL, NOED, PGTW and DMS and everyone instantly understands what the person is talking about.
What fascinates me the most is when there's a post that uses an acronym when referring to a killer add-on, especially when it's a lesser used/discussed one. Abbrevations aren't too hard to understand, but such acronyms become damn near impossible to decipher if you aren't super familiar with the killer in question. It's a jargon sphere within the jargon sphere. And as such... the inverse happens and people rarely use them.
The only ones I can think of that do have acronyms are the best-known ones, because of their notoriety (Spirit's MDR, Blight's C33).
