When will solo survivor get adequate compensation?

Just a bit over a year ago, BHVR implemented the incentives for each role to potentially hasten matchmaking times. Despite this killer incentive, when it is on, pays out much better than survivor incentive because killer cannot be kicked out of the game before game ends, unlike survivors.

On top of that solo survivor players are the ones to suffer the quality matchmaking when the game prioritizes quantity of games. On top of that their existence is instrumental in keeping killrates to satisfactory levels (solo survivors probably have less than 40% escape rate, because BHVR never separated survivor escape rates by number of people in the same team). This kind of system is kept afloat of people who might not have friends to play with, or can only play on weekends with them. They are not easy to ignore as last time BHVR released stats they seemed to make up 60% of survivor players. Survivors already outnumber killer players (or need to ideally) 4 to 1, which makes solo survivors the silent majority playerbase.

On top of that any changes to the meta always seem to affect them the most in a negative way, and benefit them least when survivors are buffed in general. I cannot make an argument for the UI because BHVR never released any stats and I am not sure it can be considered a buff as opposed to a QoL change that was a little too late.

As such I think solo survivor should receive higher incentive and compensation for playing the game in the most self-sabotaging way, but in a necessary way so as to uphold such a system. It might also incentivize people to play less games in SWF if they cherish BP, which also serves killer players because they'd face less SWFs potentially.

I say give solo survivors 300% BP incentive and maybe more Iri shard gains. Maybe the incentive would activate after you've been playing solo for a while to avoid cases where people rush to the survivor role for the obvious rewards.

Just write down your ideas.

  • Killers will get 12k BP if survivors split gens and pop everything inside 4 minutes. Incentives are fine.

  • It would be nice to earn a little more XP but I don't really care much about BP at all. 300% is definitely overkill though, as previously mentioned, but 125-150% would be cool. Even with 300% BP I would still prefer playing with friends than going through a solo queue game thanks to the matchmaking.

  • I'd take +50 or 100% bonus for queueing solo, playing against solo teams is more fun for killers too, other way is increasing score events a bit for objectives and survival

    300% seems like little overkill...

It would be quite punishing to play SWF, mainly when killers have 100% bonus most of the times.

Why would it be punishing for SWF? they get to win a lot more than solos. Which means they probably also have an easier time getting pips.

    Source?

    Anecdotal evidence doesn't count.

  • This needs to happen.

  • Before the HUD changes for Survivors, the highest difference between SWF and SOLO was not above 15% win rate between them if I recall correctly. You don't deserve 300% bps for "enduring" that. We need to know what the current win rate difference is.

If its above or 15% still then you might have a point.

40% escape rate is from mixing all escape rates for solos, 2 man SWFs, 3 man SWFS, as well as 4 man SWFS. The true escape rate of solo is below that. Find me a game that gives a role sub 35% winrate and its players are completely ok with it, I'll wait.

  • Instead, it would be more realistic to lower the matching criteria for solo players by one level.

It will be tough for the killer, but as long as bhvr introduces the loose match system, there is no other option.

  • I mean sure but that won't make the game more fun for solos.

Matchmaking working correctly won't make any solo team a death squad, but many killers would claim that to be the case if all 4 solo survivors of mmr matching the killers were all trying to win. Which can happen but rarely. Although 4 solos is probably really rare as well, more than people would make it out to be.

I'm a little skeptical about this. Because I only play solo, and even though Survivor has a 100% bonus, the matching time still takes almost 5 minutes. There is no way that my skills are extremely low or high, so I have prepared three opinions.

In the first place, the bonus is just a sham. In reality, the number of killers has decreased dramatically.

There is a bug in the matching system and it is not referencing the correct runk.

The matching waiting list is filled with SWF slots, and there is a lack of slots available for solo survivors.

If bhvr is not a liar and the system is working correctly, then the third reason is probably the reason. If that's the case, Solo is being treated unfairly in this respect as well.

  • There should be special perks that buff you at the cost of teammates. Like revealing someone's aura, or pushing them down to hinder them. "Selfish perks"

1: the bonus is not a sham, I essentially play against bots when not on 100% bp killer as killer. I really don't enjoy kicking puppies.

2: There is no bug with matchmaking. The base matchmaking is already broad and many things impact it in dumb ways. Just poor design that is somewhat a result of the wide skill gaps in the playerbase.

3: There was data released by bhvr years ago and it was about 50/50 2-4 swf and solo, I would think that swf has increased but I could very well be wrong. Again, all 4 players being solo is probably 1 in 5 games at the very least.

The only thing about solo being treated unfairly is the lack of a very basic ping/communication wheel imo. In ALL games a full team with comms will have the advantage, but it's up the devs to give every player the ability to get very close in communication, not give them out of game incentives that give them literally nothing in game. I genuinely could not care less about the mediocre horror aspect of dbd, which is the defense people have for giving solos a basic communication system.

People who stay because of their favorite horror licenses that have almost no horror impact on the game will stay, all of the other players will leave if they see their games is being treated worse fun wise than all the other terribly balanced awefully piloted games/devs.

It's not really about making the game more fun, because most solution are surface level anyway. it's about giving something back to solos for playing at such a huge disadvantage as they're a pretty core playerbase for the game as well as the killrate stats.

  • It's not anecdotal. Last year when BHVR released killrates they did admit that solo and SWFs have different escape rates. They just didn't offer separate escape rates for all cases (solo, 2 SWF, 3 SWF, 4 SWF) which would make it easier to translate to something, but they did admit the difference can be up to 15% in escape rate.

Also according to you we should not be taking seriously killers at all when they claim SWFs might have an advantage and make their game harder for them, after all it's anecdotal and they cannot know when they play SWFs.

Some would say "up to 15%" is not "a lot more" as the user I was replying to claims.

Otherwise I agree with you on your assessment about killer perspective. SWF is the baseline, solos just decide to give us an advantage. :]

lol this sounds like some fudging with numbers. Why should we mix all the escape rates?

The game should not be designed so there is no difference between SWF Comp play and regular SWF and SoloQ.

bHVR should take the middle section of MMR skill expression and then check that portion for SWF and SoloQ win rate difference.

and that happens how often...? oh yeah like once a year because thats like 1% of swfs which make up 3%

It's not me mixing the escape rates...unfortunately BHVR isn't that transparent with their stats and makes things difficult.

most survivors will barely manage 12k if they die, regardless of anything they did in the trial. survivor in general should get like a 50% bp boost at base.

  • buff survivor bp in general. Its not fair that I, the killer, can get a 2k/tie and still have like 30k while the dead will barely manage 10k regardless of anything they contributed to the escapees.

Tbh, if you specialized in one thing as survivor (doing gens or being in gens all game) the BP gains are abysmal.

agreed, I dropped my all rounder build in favor of a more support and utility oriented one because soloQ teammates can group up to heal or coordinate risky plays. Its deli, we'll make it, empathy and mft though Im considering switch it out for SB since the 10s endurance doenst often come into play, which was the main reason i chose it for this build. My healing points are hella good but everything else is absolute zero.

You could do 4 gens and escape and you'd get at most 20k. It really sucks that you can reach max points on a certain emblem and not get anything extra after that point.

yeah but if I load up on blight I'm guaranteed 30k as long as I dont throw lol. super uneven.

We're saying the same thing though, that as survivors you don't get enough BP even if you well.

But as killer you'll get more BP than survivors majority of time.

exactly, survivor needs more reliable ways of getting amounts of BP that arent just escaping and sitting on gens.
