Closing the Hatch: Reset chests

Since BHVR is not happy with the hatch changes thus far, here is another idea:

When the killer closes the hatch, including from a key opening it, a bright flash of light shines up into the sky as a beacon, to show everyone on the map where the killer (Kindred effect) and hatch are. Once the flash effect ends, all chests reset, containing a rare quality or higher item, with one chest containing a key to open the hatch. This would occur every time the hatch is closed. Optionally, the hatch could then relocate to a new random location on the map.

This would give the survivor(s) the option of either completing a generator (high risk, but provides exit gate options when the last generator is completed), or opening chests (low risk, but requires finding/getting to the hatch). Using the key at this point leaves the hatch open until closed by the killer (no 30 second timeout). I think that this would make winning the end game fair for both sides, and not give either side a particular advantage. I play both sides, and I think that this would be fun for both the killer, and the survivors, while keeping their adrenaline high.

  • Too overpowered. Hatch should be worked hard for opening. You shouldn't get a free escape if you and your team were so unable to cooperate that only one person is left while everyone's dead.

The point of the hatch is to give the last survivor a chance to live instead of killing themselves/giving up outright.

It's not supposed to be EASY, it's supposed to level the field for the last survivor. Completing a final objective isn't a "free" escape either, as opposed to finding the hatch and camping it.

Better perspective is why should the hatch mechanic exist if it's going to be tedious?
  • Easy escape? You're kidding me right? That's the same as saying that slugging is easy and no killer should be able to do it...smh

I don't see how you would think that this is a free escape. Presently, the last survivor will just hide until the killer moves away from the hatch. He won't do any generators, even if only 1 is needed to power the exit gates, as it would give away his/her location. This standoff can last for hours, until either the survivor, or the killer just gives up. If you think that that is fun, then I have some swamp land in Florida that you'd probably die for.

  • Honestly they should just put a timer on the gates if you close it. Give the killer a chance to find the survivor and after 2 minutes the gates power. It gives the killer a chance to find the survivor while ensuring no stand off happens.

  • That still puts way too much power in the survivors hands. Honestly they should have the initial fair chance at getting the hatch first. If the killer gets to it first and closes it then they should have to complete 1 gen. If they can do that it opens back up permanently. Needing to do 1 gen is decently hard without being overbearing. They also might even get the hatch the first time before the killer even gets to it.

  • @Blueberry unfortunately, the devs have stated that what they implemented on the PTB was way to overpowering for the killer, and is why they are looking for alternatives. It is almost impossible for a solo survivor to complete a gen and not get caught, which is what their data showed.

Survivor should just do a gen. Except that one time that Myers had the most disgusting 3 gen on grim pantry.... and the hatch was literally blocked by him....

That’s the problem, the rate of success doing that SHOULD be low. The hatch isn’t supposed to be “fair”. The killer won the round by killing the survivors without them completing their objective. This is supposed to be a last ditch small glimmer of hope for a free escape.
  • They change the base mechanic where is the only one survivor and killer, so there will be no hatch anymore

  • What if they had the close hatch/do gen, but took the killers aura reading from them so they can't see the gens left, making patrolling more difficult.
