Play test killer/survivor option in the shop menus.

For many people, buying a new character isn't a simple task. Whether it's a killer or a survivor, it's hard to know which character to get first, especially for newer players, because of the vast number of survivors and killers on the market. Many players hesitate to spend either Iridescent Shards or Auric Cells on a character they may not enjoy. While original characters can eventually be earned for free, licensed characters require real money, making players even more cautious about their purchases. With the growing popularity of DBD as a whole among TikTok creators and other creators on social media, there have been more players trying out the game. Many new players, and old, are very hesitant to spend real-life money on a game. Although they only cost around five dollars each, many players are hesitant to spend money without knowing whether they'll actually enjoy playing the character.

A good solution to this is to have a "playtest character" section in the shop menu. This would open a private practice mode where players could freely test any killer against stationary NPC survivors. This is good because then the player can try out the killer, their perks, their play style, without having to find out the hard way in a game with real people and losing out on their hard-earned Iridescent shards or Auric Cells. Having a separate custom game mode in the shop menu would also make it so the player can't play any killer against their friends in a normal custom game. Players couldn't use unowned characters against friends, meaning they would still need to purchase the character before using them in normal gameplay

The same feature could be added for survivors. A basic killer NPC could perform actions such as injuring, downing, picking up, hooking, and kicking generators so players could test perks that depend on those interactions. This would give players a better understanding of how survivor perks work before deciding whether the character is worth purchasing.

This concept would make the game more accessible for new players and easier for older ones. Newer players could confidently decide which character best fits their playstyle, while experienced players could learn unfamiliar killers or experiment with perks they have never used before. But with this, many experienced players might see this as something useless because it doesn't let you test out the character in a playable scenario, so you are not getting the full effect of any character. Although playing the killer/survivor in an actual game is the best way to learn how to play them, the purpose of the mode wouldn't be to master a character; it would simply allow players to understand their mechanics before making a purchase. As a result, players would feel more confident spending their currency, making them more likely to invest in new characters.

Overall, a character playtest mode would allow players to make informed purchasing decisions instead of referring to videos or guessing which character they might enjoy. This would make the game better for everyone because it would allow people to save their currency until they know what character to spend their money on. Think about the players who are just starting and are so confused about who to spend their currency on. This simple addition would improve the experience for both new and veteran players while making the in-game shop more welcoming and consumer-friendly.

  • It is genuinely the worst feeling to save up 9k shards then watch gameplay of the killer and they seem fun to play and you end up not liking them and wasting hours for no reason

It sucks! That happened to me with the unknown, and I saw clips and thought it would be very simple to play him, but I tried one match and ended up not liking him
