Hi id like to give a new killer suggestion that ive been working on and have just polished up

Dead by Daylight Chapter Concept – “The Black Phone”

---

New Killer: The Grabber

The Grabber is a psychological, control-based killer who thrives on fear, isolation, and forcing survivors into high-risk situations. Rather than overwhelming survivors with raw strength, he manipulates the environment—turning parts of the map into deadly zones where one mistake can quickly snowball into disaster.

This concept leans heavily into the grounded, disturbing tone of The Black Phone, focusing on tension, panic, and calculated pressure.

---

Killer Power – “Frozen Lure”

Passive: Frozen Ground

Sections of the map are covered in ice, including a large central Ice Patch.

While on ice, The Grabber:

- Moves 5% faster

- Has smoother turning while lunging

- Gains slightly increased lunge distance

Survivors on ice:

- Experience reduced control due to slipping

- Are more likely to misposition during chases

This creates a clear killer-favoured zone that survivors may still choose to enter for rewards.

---

Primary Ability: The Black Phone

At the centre of the Ice Patch sits the Black Phone.

Survivor Interaction:

- Survivors can interact with the phone by completing skill checks

- The animation involves speaking to ghost children through the receiver

Upon Completion:

- Ghostly hands burst from the ground, restraining The Grabber in place for ~6 seconds

- A loud global sound cue alerts all players

- Survivors gain a brief reward (short aura reading or small speed boost)

Design Purpose:

- Forces survivors into the killer’s strongest zone

- Rewards coordination and timing

- Creates cinematic, high-tension moments

---

Secondary Ability: Ice Traps

The Grabber can place up to 8 Ice Traps across the map, disguised as weak frozen ground.

---

Trap Trigger

When a survivor steps on a trap:

- The ice breaks and they fall into freezing water

- They become trapped for up to 4 seconds

During this time:

- They must complete fast, tight skill checks to escape

- Missing skill checks:

- Extends time trapped

- Triggers a loud noise notification

This turns the trap into a panic-based mechanic, not passive waiting.

---

Cold Shock (After Escape)

After escaping the trap, survivors suffer:

- Hindered (movement slowed) for 12–15 seconds

- Slower vault speed briefly

- Slightly harder skill checks

This reflects the shock of freezing water and keeps pressure on survivors.

---

Rescue Interaction

Other survivors can help pull them out faster.

Trade-off:

- Both survivors suffer a short action speed penalty

- Represents frozen hands and reduced coordination

---

Special Status – “Frozen”

If The Grabber grabs a survivor directly from a trap:

- The survivor gains the Frozen effect

- Wiggle effectiveness is heavily reduced while being carried

This rewards smart trap placement and timing.

---

Weapon

The Belt

A simple but brutal weapon that reinforces the killer’s grounded and disturbing nature.

---

Killer Perks

Hell is Frozen (or “It’s On Ice”)

After hitting a survivor with a basic attack:

- They suffer Hindered (5%) for 12 seconds

- Emit subtle cold breath audio cues

---

See What You Made Me Do

When you down a survivor:

- Survivors within your Terror Radius have their aura revealed for 5 seconds

- Gain 5% Haste for 5 seconds

---

Did You Think Our Story Was Over

When a survivor is healing:

- Your Terror Radius increases by 8 metres

- Healing survivors experience smaller, more difficult skill checks

---

Add-ons

Common

- Ice Pick: Slightly increases Ice Trap trigger size

- Black Balloon: Balloons spawn across ice; when touched, they pop and reveal survivor location with a noise notification

---

Uncommon

- Ice Block: When a trap is triggered, a frozen seal covers it for 3 seconds, preventing escape during that time

- Meat Locker: Increases Hindered duration after escaping traps

---

Rare

- Resurfacer: Increases movement speed and turning control while on ice

- Fractured Receiver: Reduces the time The Grabber is restrained after the Black Phone is completed

---

Very Rare

- Frozen Chains: Survivors caught from traps suffer even greater wiggle reduction

- Cracked Mask: Survivors who trigger traps become Oblivious for a short duration

---

Ultra Rare

- Iridescent Phone Cord: Reduces survivor reward from the Black Phone and shortens the restraint duration on the killer

- Iridescent Ice Shard: The first survivor caught in a trap suffers stronger penalties, but traps take longer to reset

---

Mori Animations (Detailed)

The Grabber’s moris focus on psychological fear and disturbing realism.

Phone Cord Execution

- The Grabber slowly wraps a black phone cord around the survivor’s neck

- Pulls them close as they struggle

- Tightens until they collapse at his feet

---

Ice Break Kill

- The Grabber forces the survivor onto a frozen surface

- The ice cracks beneath them

- They fall through into darkness, reaching upward before disappearing

- The ice slowly seals over

---

The Call

- The Grabber holds the phone to the survivor’s ear

- A high-pitched, distorted sound plays

- The survivor convulses before going limp

---

Balloon Execution (Cosmetic Mori)

- Black balloons appear and wrap around the survivor

- A cord tightens around their neck

- They are lifted slowly into the air, struggling

- Their body goes limp as they rise out of view

---

New Survivors

Finney Blake (Defensive / Clutch Survivor)

It’s For You

While in chase:

- Activate to throw a distraction (phone)

- If it connects:

- The killer is briefly staggered

- A phone sound effect plays

---

A Chance to Protect You

- Survivors you see in chase gain 3% Haste while in your line of sight

---

I Hold the Line

- During Endgame Collapse:

- Gain Haste for each survivor that escapes

- If last alive:

- Hatch aura is revealed

---

Gwen Blake (Information / Awareness)

- When they are in chase:

- You briefly see the killer’s aura

- Healing and unhooking each other is faster

---

Let the Dreams Be Real

- After completing a generator:

- See the killer’s aura for 6 seconds

---

Take Care of Me

- After healing or being healed:

- Both survivors gain 5% action speed for 30 seconds

---

Map Concept – Frozen Basement / Ice Rink

A suburban home connected to a hidden basement that transitions into a frozen hunting ground.

Key Features:

- Large Ice Patch (killer advantage zone)

- Tight hallways and rooms for tension

- Central objective: The Black Phone

This map encourages:

- Risk vs reward decisions

- Area control gameplay

- High-pressure interactions

---

Cosmetics & Customisation

- Fully customisable masks (mix-and-match top and bottom halves)

- Skins based on both film appearances:

- Original version

- Decomposed version

- Finney skins including references to missing children

- Themed outfits for Gwen

---

Audio & Atmosphere

- Chase music incorporates a ringing phone

- Subtle whispers and distant voices throughout the map

- Balloon pops and phone feedback create tension

- Environmental audio reinforces psychological horror

---

Final Design Goal

This chapter is built around:

- Psychological horror over brute force

- Map control and environmental pressure

- High-risk, high-reward gameplay

- Constant tension and decision-making

The Grabber would introduce a unique style of gameplay that rewards strategy, awareness, and composure while delivering a deeply unsettling experience that fits naturally within Dead by Daylight.

  • I still cannot believe they turned a mediocre 40 page short story into two films.
