Limited incapacitated options

There are currently only four things that apply this status effect:

  • Two killers' basekits (Twins and Cenobite)
  • One killer's add-on (Huntress)
  • One killer perk (Eruption)

For a killer roster as big as Dead by Daylight's is now, this seems strange to me. What would you think if the devs were to add more ways to apply it? Additionally, do you think it should also prevent survivors from opening the exit gates and hatch?

  • I think the status effect should go away entirely or only prevent non-generator interactions. But it's a pretty unfun status effect as currently implemented

It's very unfun on the survivor side. But so are all the other negative status effects.

You would repair generators with a gremlin attached to your back?

    🤣

  • It's a relatively new status effect, being introduced with Twins. It's also insanely powerful and shouldn't be applied lightly.

Agreed, but more options to apply it would be welcome. I'm thinking more add-ons than perks. Doesn't have to last for a crazy amount of time either.

    What about it is unfun?

There’s all kinds of effects on both sides that limit the ability to progress the objective.

It doesn’t stop you from evading the killer or escaping or hiding.

The more varied threats you have to face the more interesting the game is.

It would be interesting to see more ways to apply incapacitated but given it’s ability to stop progress on the survivor primary task (gens) it probably doesn’t need to be too prevalent in game.

Doc also applies a quasi form of incapacitated in tier3.

Problem with this status is it doesnt let you do anything at all, you cant repair, heal, open chests, nothing except opening the Exit Gates, being hit by Huntress, Victor or Pinhead chains is not as bad because it means you are being chased and you wouldnt be able to do anything anyway or are easy to void by performing a fast action like getting rid of Victor or breaking the chains.

On Eruption is a whole different thing because you get hit by it and you are left 25 seconds without doing anything at all without being chased by the Killer, you may aswell go to a locker get inside and wait for it to go away, pair it with several prompts in the span of a trial and the time people are sitting there doing nothing mounts and becomes dull, after all people want to play a game not sit there waiting for some dumb status to go away so they can resume gameplay.

  • I'm actually more bothered by Hindered than Incapacitated. You can still hide and wait it out while Incapacitated.

    Hindered is a free down.

  • The status effect is newest and preventing survivors from doing nearly all actions is really strong that it shouldn't be a widely available status effect. If anything Eruption applying a 25 second incapacitated is too much.

  • I mean Doctor technically applies Incapacitated, as in Madness III has the same restrictions, just not the actual status effect itself.

  • I would kill if more killers got incapacitated add ons it's a status effect that's actually threatening

  • Nah, it should be used extremely sparingly. Eruption already goes way too far with it.

But it makes sense for twins and pinhead and how their powers work/it’s fine on them.

  • I would rather remove this status effect completely. I am quite happy that it is only applied by very few things, because not being able to do anything when you get hit by Eruption is just super-annoying. And there is also not really anything you can do about it, because you dont get any warning if a Survivor is about to go down, unless you see them or are in an SWF.

It is fine that it is implemented in Killer Abilities, in the end, you will have something to do anyway when you have Victor on your back and it makes sense that you are forced to be useless when you take him hostage.

But I really dont need more Perks which inflict incapacitated.

Its insane, you get 4 prompts of Eruption in a single game, which isnt hard to achieve really, and you gained 100 seconds of someone not working on gens which amounts to more than 1 gen worth of progress, add to that every time it activates you regress any generator kicked by 10%, even if those 4 prompts only affected 1 gen it would be a 40% regression, adding 45 extra seconds of gen fixing over.

I believe Incapacitated should just add a big gen fixing penalty and thats it, either that or Eruption needs to get tweaked.

I don't see a problem with it as long as it never gets oppressive. Especially considering it generally just prevents you from holding M1, which many people don't find too fun to begin with,

Certain incapacitated effects, mainly Eruption's, are just too oppressive at the moment, which can make it frustrating.

Personally I think the problem with Eruption's incapacitated status effect is the duration. I feel like it's really not that bad if it doesn't last too long. But it being buffed to 25 seconds on Eruption was a really bad idea.

Yeah, this pretty much covers it for me. Incapacitated as a direct result of the killer's power is fine - it ensures you can't make any cheeky plays mid-chase, or if the killer switches targets, determines that you're still out of the game for a bit and should use the time to make distance instead of immediately returning to a gen.

But incapacitated outside of chase makes for really brutal 1v4. Gens, heals, unhooks, bones - there's nothing else a player not being pressured by the killer should be doing, and incapacitated effectively removes a survivor from the game for the duration. Eruption is way too overtuned right now - 25s of being unable to do anything useful on multiple survivors multiple times per game is way too strong, and I don't want to see more of that.

It also leads to some really annoying moments where teammates don't understand that you're incapacitated and get mad at you for not healing them or working on gens. Had a couple of sandbags and potentially-related endgame ditches because of this.
