What other cultures would you like to see?

We are now going to have 3 japanese-based killers, and I am all for it (let's just pray they actually do something unique for the power). I would still love some other cultures to get some highlights too though. So many cool cultures out in the world that feels so ignored in a lot of media, especially in terms of cryptids or folk monsters.

I still would love some native American culture added. Such cool monsters and beings that could be great for DBD, and would be so sweet as we just don't have much in media. Just hope other killers or characters get some more love, feels like we just escaped a kidnapping after the amount of trickster stuff was fed to us.

  • south asians, like india

  • I don't think they picked that chapter for culture rep... I think they did it because it's playerbase is huge

    Native American, Indian, Greek, Australia

don't they do greek outfits every year or am I tripping?

  • Any culture as long as it's an interesting character.

I think we need more creatures/monsters in general.

    Lycanthrope/Werewolf, Vampire, Gargoyle, etc etc.

Maybe something focused in Europe or Native American folklore/mythology.

  • I would be super, super careful with trying to tap other cultures as inspiration for Killers. That is a minefield of offended people waiting to happen.

More killers inspired by an in real life serial killers. Maps focused arounded those places while the murders were taking a place for example: Home where kitchen would covered in blood on the walls, human meat in bowls, dismembered body parts laying on the floor etc. Something creepy and can give a trauma.

That is a terrible idea. Imagine if one of your family members was murdered by a serial killer and then see it in a video game. Just no.

You might enjoy other horror cultures, but they simply aren't considered widely popular. DBD is a Canadian game that largely targets the Western World. All of the horror icons we've had, regardless of where they come from, are popular figures in the west.

Japanese killers keep getting made because horror or not, Japan is popular. Like it or not, there's a huge amount of money to be made by securing the anime fans in your game's audience. The Ring and The Grudge also both got American remakes which cemented them in popular culture, and of the Japanese killers, Spirit is largely based on Kayako and we're now getting Sadako.

Again, you may like other horror cultures, but outside of their countries of origin, most are considered very niche. They probably will get sales on anything from the vets, but obtaining licensed IPs is one of the biggest factors in getting new people into the game, and "random Vietnamese horror movie you watched and loved and keep recommending to people who've never heard of it" isn't going to have that pull.

They don't have Jason because of licensing issues and court battles going on around ownership of the character. Simple as that. If he were available, he probably would have been in the first 4 licensed DLCs along with Myers, Freddy and Leatherface.

Dude, I think you are way too hung up on the Japanese thing. There is a common habit to forget that Asia is much more than 3 countries. We are not just talking horror movies here. We are talking about cultural folklore and spooky tales. If you were at all well read on the dark and mysterious, you would know that India and Russia take the cake in that category. Not horror movies, but scary figures and tales.

Let's be honest here, Middle East, Northern Europe and Eastern Europe are a massive wealth of untapped horror icons as well.

Yes, Japanese pop culture is popular, and mostly misunderstood by people outside of Japan. Does not mean you keep going to the same well.

Would love a German soldier there are so many rumors and myth out there about what happens in the last months of the war cause Hitler had an whole ocult organization and scientists trying to actually achieve something like a super soldier that could be cool plus Americans just love to turn ww2 Germans into monsters anyway :D

I'd find it pretty interesting if it weren't just a crazy WW2 super soldier and instead someone who survived the war, but went crazy because of the trauma

Do you know what word Inspired means? It doesn't must be a same person.

It's still inspired on something that brought a lot of grief to people, which shouldn't be used for entertainment purposes.

People should know what ######### up things happens in the world. The satanist cults, cannibalism, killing for sexual purposes (not only for #########) Turning their bodies into soap and cookies, selling humans (also kids) I think people should be aware of it for their own safety.

    Indigenous/First Nations and/or Moroccan.

  • I'd like to see a papa legba type killer. I think it'd be interesting and make an interesting chapter

  • Native american Wendigo or a Romanian Strigoi

Agreed on Native American - Wendigo type killer would be great. And TONS to draw from with Indian lore.

  • Native american lore has some of the creepiest ######### so I would say to go that direction. Plus native american culture rarely gets any representation in main stream media so it'd be nice.

  • Inuit culture has a monster called the Tupilaq. A recent example was seen in the TV series 'The Terror', which featured a huge Polar bear-like creature known as Tuunbaq.

No idea how this culture would fit into DBD but the prospect of a killer who can summon a vengeful giant Polar bear monster sounds pretty cool to me.
