Why the realm beyond failed
If you don’t know what the realm beyond is it’s the graphical overhaul that the game has been receiving since the blight chapter in October last year. It started with the badham and yamaoka maps and there is still 4 realms that need an update.
The biggest issue with the realm beyond is how map balance has actually somehow gotten worse since the updates. The 2 biggest examples were actually released in the same update being the chapel and the meat plant. The chapel was widely considered a top tier map in terms of balance but after the rework the devs decided to add a god window and some breakable walls to the map even though they have gone on record to say they don’t want to change the balance of the maps. The game isn’t much better since all they did was enhance the issues and fail to fix the problems. There are now more god pallets and breakable walls that do nothing but create dead ends. These updates were the perfect time to actually balance these maps but the devs seemingly don’t care to balance maps and visuals are all they care about.
Another issue is the performance and optimisation. Ever since these updates arrived base gen consoles and switch have consistently been having performance issues. Not to mention how RCPD literally couldn’t function on said consoles and had to be disabled for 2 weeks. Dbd is a 5 year old game and shouldn’t really be performing so poorly on these consoles.
The last thing I want to talk about is the survivor remodels. These have been a mixed bag overall but some things stay consistent. One example is how pretty much all the bloody sets became worse with the biggest examples being Quentin and Tapp. There was no reason to make these worse especially in Quentin’s case since it’s the only other outfit he has. Another problem is how certain characters looks were kinda downgraded. The majority of the community dislike reworks such as Kate’s or Feng’s since their faces didn’t need to be changed much and the devs went overboard. People mained the characters the did because they liked them and majorly changing them was a pretty bad idea imo. I’m not saying all of them are bad though I even like some like Adam and Jane since they are only minor touch ups
Overall I just feel like the realm beyond as a whole has been a failure and hasn’t done too much to improve the game

Was Chapel considered a well balanced map? The only thing I ever heard about it was that it was tiny, never heard anyone say that it was well balanced.
IMO The Game is THE map which should not use Breakable Walls. All those Breakable Walls created Deadends, which got compensated with more Pallets.
Get rid of some Pallets, get rid of all Breakable Walls and the Map is as it was before. This is by no means good, since The Game was always one of the most boring Maps to play on, but I doubt we can get a proper Rework anytime soon.
It was generally compared to coal tower and was considered quite balanced since the small size allowed non mobile killers to create map pressure
Now the main building is way too strong
Yeah instead of fixing the issues the map had they just multiplied the main issue and created a new one which hinders both sides
IMO the maps look good but my god they are balanced so horribly. They ruined Chapel, which was the most balanced map in the game by far.
The face reworks are good but some need polishing, and they need to fix their facial animations, especially Nea's.
The Realm Beyond still has potential IMO, but right now it ain't doing so well map-wise.
my main problem is it feels like all of the balanced maps are becoming worse. Chapel got worse while maps like cowshed stay the same
The faces are mostly okay but some like feng and Quentin changed too much imo and have put off a lot of the people who mained them previously
Didnt they also add back the infinite on groaning with Realm Beyond after removing it.
Kinda but it has a breakable wall now instead
Yeah I saw this video and it might be out of date and it isnt exactly the most scientific but the doorway doesnt seem to save that much time at least from watching the video and pausing it at what I think was the same spot it seems both routes take about 13 seconds to go from the corner around and back to the corner.

That's... not what I've heard.
The map was considered like medium balance? Like it had a strong middle of the map but the outskirts have been barren. The realm beyond kinda helped the latter (kind of) while also helping the former, for some reason, with breakable walls.
The character reworks are entirely subjective, you can't claim they're worse than before.
I personally think the new Kate is great, she has more personality now, and reminds me of Julia Stiles. Old Kate just had a sort of... generic blonde bimbo look to her, like the kind of faces you'd get in CGI cutscenes in PS1/2 games.
Personally I thought it was one of the most balanced maps in the game. I still think its up there but just slightly more annoying now. Its small and outdoors so the killer can spread pressure properly with skill and knowledge however its still fairly dense and has enough loops and structures for a good team to delay if they play their cards right and outplay the killer or just spread out on gens that still works but only at the highest levels can it be done right.
I consider it one of the more balanced maps.in the game since it allows both sides to express their skills and has a smaller chance of screwing over one side or the other by rng, though with the new window spawns in the main building they've made it more likely for you to get very strong windows along with the rest of the map but breakable walls can somewhat neuter some of the window spawns but even then sometimes they can be fairly frustrating for killer. That being said the windows and wall setups can sometimes make the main building a death trap for survivors but a decent bit more rare then it being mostly fair.
So far I've hated almost every change they've made with realm reborn.
I'm actually a big fan of all of them, and my three least favourite maps are all ones that havent been reworked (Haddonfield, both Swamp maps). Definitely in the minority though.
Have to agree that those are the worst maps, and even though some aspects of the reworked maps are worse, overall they still look much better. I can't say the god loop in the Chapel has every really caught me out that much as a killer, and for all the cries about the Game, I feel like it's a more balanced map now, before they added in more pallets and walls it was very killer sided.
Dead Dawg is still the best map for breakable walls though, I wish they would add the shack wall in more often, even as a random spawn for any killer shack in any map. Could potentially offset any god loops as a result of RNG like Chapel.
Well the problem i have with the reworks is they add more pallets to maps including god pallets or just super safe pallets/loops
