Exploiting game mechanics shouldn't be a valid way to play the game

Yet there is not a single match survivors don't just press M1 to unhook someone and immediatly drop it so they don't get grabbed by the killer and instead they take a normal hit.

If you start unhooking someone, you should be able to be grabbed.

If you were working on a gen but stop pressing M1 at last second when the killer starts the grab animation, you should be able to be grabbed

Why is pressing M1 and immediatly stop doing so a valid mechanic to counter the killer? Specially when it looks so stupid and bugs the animation itself having the survivor teleport in front of the hooked survivor and then back to where they were before pressing M1.

Just make it like vaulting or throwing a pallet or even hooking in which you can't stop the action until the character does the full animation.

  • Thats not an exploit, thats baiting you to swing. Git gud.

  • I think thats the first time i heard that complaint and i read many forum posts.

  • You got baited. This is perfectly valid.

For the unhook, just hit the survivor coming off the hook. EZ down.

For gens, the injure is all you need. The chase will be drastically shorter if they're already one hit.

    Git gud.

Bugging animations should not be a game mechanic. If you teleport in front of the hooked survivor and start doing the unhooking animation you should be grabbed. Dropping M1 shouldn't teleport you back to your place and make you immune. The killer can't keep pressing space to cancel and do again the hook animation so he can carry the survivor forever and they can't wiggle off. So why survivors can switch from being grabbed to being hit by just stop pressing M1 when they already started the animation of an action.

  • Not an exploit

    Not bugging the animation

  • That's just cancelling an action. There's nothing wrong with that. It's not an exploit.

Killers look down at pallets all the time in order to fake they are going to animation lock into breaking the pallet, then break off and get an easy chase instead. Sure, they never cancelled an action, but they faked it in order to gain the same benefit. That's not unfair either.

I'm gonna assume you're trolling and your analogy is seriously not "cancelling animation is the same as faking something".

  • I agree that grabs should be improved, but calling it an exploit and blaming people for simply being aware that they're unreliable isn't the way to go.

The focus should be on actually improving grabs. Even though I'm absolutely certain a mechanic as latency-sensitive as that is ALWAYS going to be a little janky, simply because magical instant data transfer isn't an option - latency will always to some extent get grabs cancelled and people hit through pallets/windows even when they really really shouldn't.

  • I understand your perspective, but I'd like to pose a counter question

What do you propose be changed about this? Because survivors not getting grabbed isn't really the fault of the survivor, it's on the server/hit validation end.

  • Are you also saying that 'faking' your power as killer is an exploit?

Because currently you can fake a trap placement as Trapper and Hag, cancel your chainsaw animation as Billy, fake your power as Demo, Huntress, Pyramid Head, Deathslinger. I could go on.

Because if your definiton of an exploit is cancelling an animation, killers can do that on their side as well.

  • Its not really an exploit just desync, and even if they fix desync on some magical day survivors will still be able to bait out hits it just wont be as insanely easy nor will killers just get stuck in the animation sometimes.

  • The amount of "ITS A TACTIC!" posts are already staggering.

    DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH.

That's the OP's whole point. It SHOULDN'T be a tactic because its a bullshit example of emergent gameplay where people are playing the servers rather than the gameplay scenerio.

Players know they can't be grabbed in those circumstances, but it's hardly a matter of skill--it's a matter of dedicated servers making grabs incredibly unreliable. Players are applying that external knowledge of this being a videogame with certain limitations to create in-game circumstances which really shouldn't exist. The killer SHOULD have you based on proximity alone there.

You shouldn't become a tank based from starting/stopping the unhook just because you know you can exploit how this one bugged animation must extend from another which you can cancel.

It's not that you're a dick or a cheater for doing that. Everyone does because its the right play and status quo. They're just saying the devs should change the events so that something that scenario defying isn't a gameplay tactic.
