Killers Need a Second Objective

Keeping up with a coordinated SWF is no small feat. ...but pub stomping solos, even at the highest level, can be very easy business.

DBD suffers from the fact that the most effective strategies are the least interactive. Yet the most enjoyable aspects of DBD are the ones in which the two sides have a conversation.

BHVR needs to force interaction, rather than assume players will do so of their own free will. For the sake of the game's health, this is necessary.

Camping and Tunneling have long plagued DBD, and BHVR has responded to these concerns by providing survivors with the tools to counter it. But the problem still persists..

It has become abundantly clear that no amount of perks can prevent a killer from deliberately ensuring that 1 or more players have a miserable experience.

Killers need satisfying reasons to leave the hook--not just perks that tell them they might be able to down people faster if they walk 32m away.

---

Maybe BHVR doesn't care. Perhaps some of their staff gets a kick out of facecamping survivors on first hook, and im talking into the abyss. But that style of play is unhealthy, and there are a surplus of objective changes that could be made to avoid it.

  • In reality you're right, but both sides need new objectives rather than just killer.

Until that happens, survivors will continue to end games within minutes by genrushing and killers will continue to do the same with tunneling/camping.

  • Sure, let's add another objective for the role that already has literally no spare second to even look for survivors.

    SURE.

Isn't protecting gens reason enough to leave hook? When survivors don't do generators while someone is camped its their fault. I think giving solos more information is the better solution to this

Ive been able to tell a killer is camping a few times, with or without Kindred.

The problems is only me recognize it and do Gen while other 2 surrounding the hook.

Few times I was able to escape, few times I died by Noed.

If hooked survivor on hook suicide, it ensure easy 3-4k for killer. No, you cant blame them suicide on hook. No one have fun staying on hook for 2 min and die.

Camping, tunneling and gen rush should be gone. For the sake of fun for all players on both side.

  • Killers gameplay would be so much healthier if survivors have more objectives. If surv have more objectives, killers have it too, because they have to prevent survivors to do these objectives, so it add time to the game.

Did you that not every match has face camping or tunneling in it :O

  • Well in a way they do. Despite having no time killers now have to spend a minute breaking walls at the start of every game.

Im sure they’ll take your suggestion on board though. The devs play in green ranks so they’ll probably agree with your suggestion and give killers more objectives. Survivors definitely need more time to do gens safely

The example you gave just shows it's only effective because of your teammates who allowed it to happen. If people would just do gens instead of trying to be a hero, camping would die down slowly eventually. And yes that also means buying time for the others if you are the one being camped.

I agree genrushing, camping and tunneling should be discouraged but outright "removing" it won't be possible.

If the 1st survivor can buy enough time for other 3 to actual finish Gen, there is high chance that a 2nd survivor will down by Noed and camped to death. 2k, a balanced game.

Camp only never work on swf.

Its still depend on Devs that decide to have camp, tunnel, gen rush is a thing or not. They can totally add more mechanics to remove those 3, though I think they never want to.

After all, most people complaining about camp, tunnel, gen rush. As long as those still happens in game, complain never stop.

  • Killers already have two objectives:

    Kill survivors.

    Protect gens.

Do you disagree with the intent of my post? Or are you simply looking for an echo chamber to upvote you?

Because I never said that Survivors don't need additional objectives.

Do you want me to explain the obvious? Killer don't need a secondary objective and I'm strongly against of adding one.

Cool. Try saying that in fewer words next time, yeah?

Why are you strongly against adding one?

BHVRs past attempts to discourage camping have had no substantial impact on the trend, and as it stands it is an incredibly effective strategy against solos. Its not a healthy trend for the game, and DBD would benefit immensely from a QoL change that shifted killers' "win condition" into something more engaging

  • We don’t have time as Killers to do a second objective. With how fast gens fly we need to be on the ball from the get go. A wasted second is a second the survivors work towards the gens and escape.

no gens move too fast to even protect them anyways.

also killers need 3 whole seconds to kick a gen to SLOOOOOOOWLY regress the gen without perks

meanwhile survivors can tap a gen for 1/60th of a second to halt regression and it's so fast they can do this in midchase

  • If anything survivors need a second objective, gens move too fast.

  • It's already a thing: Breaking walls

  • Umm, no. Killers already have -4 minutes to achieve their goal, so they don't need a second goal on top of that.

And -4 minutes is not hyperbole:

1 Survivor doing 1 generator at a time, without help or items, is 80 seconds. 80 seconds X 5 gens = 400 seconds. Or 6.66 minutes. We will round up to 7, for travel time.

If the Killer 12-hooks (As some Survivors demand they be forced to do), and we assume a chase takes 60 seconds on average (Some are shorter, but some are also longer); that's 12 minutes.

So a lone Survivor can do ALL gens 4 minutes faster than a Killer can chase, down, and hook everyone.

So no; Killers don't need a second objective. Not until gen speeds are looked at. They already have less time than they need.
