Technician should be a shared perk within 8 meters
The perk doesn't really offer much value, except for new players or anyone going for adept Ming. I realized the problem with this perk, and why it has such a low pick rate, it's because when you use the perk on a gen with another survivor who doesn't have it, then your perk is useless because the other survivor is making a lot of noise and they might fail a spellcheck, circumventing the perk, so if it was a shared perk then it would add value to survivors in a trial.

Just had another idea, this perk would be fantastic if it was a shared perk AND it blocked the killers aura reading abilitys when a survivor is on a gen. it would make it a stealth perk that counters Discordance, Surveillance, Gearhead, and BBQ, giving it some real use. It's not going to compete with the meta perks, but it would offer some real value.
Its felt like an odd perk for a while to be honest. Not much point in going for Greats anymore other than BP and if the killer is actively chasing near you hes still going to hear the gen getting progressively faster and faster.
I'd prefer it if it just made all sounds on gens being worked on quieter instead of just the clicks.
Main problem is it reduces Noise from repairs, but not from generator itself.
Odds of killer checking up gens that is near complete are very high, so it's nullifies purpose of the perk.
Like if bbq didn't have around 6 counters already...
Well, my thinking is this, it's a stealth perk, it has no other function than to be stealthy, and unfortunately it doesn't really achieve what it sets out to do. This perk needs a buff in functionality. Gens should make less noise with this perk and it should be a shared perk so other survivors on the same gen don't make a racket, and given that this is a stealth perk it makes sense to me that it blocks aura reading abilities, BBQ is not the only thing that has aura reading abilitiy, there's plenty of killer add ons that do it too.
It would give survivors a meaningful stealth option if they made this change.
I think that the main purpose of this perk is to give newer players some break if they don't hit the skill checks every time, making it a stealth perk isn't a bad idea tho, I'm just pointing out that BBQ can be countered really easily.
Also just to point out, if I'm not mistaken, there is only BBQ that can reveal Survivors working on a Generator. (But maybe I'm wrong)
There's actually a lot of aura reading perks/add ons, but in regards to gens, aside for BBQ there's Gear Head which will turn the generator aura yellow whenever a survivor hits a good skillcheck, and discordance will turn the gen aura yellow if there's two or more survivors working on it.
That's why I was thinking it might be a really nice touch if Technician blocked aura reading when a survivor is working on a gen, making it a stealth perk and giving it real use.
I agree with that, these changes might not make the perk compete with meta perks, but it'll make this perk good at what it's suppose to do, and I think that's the important thing here. Besides, a lot of survivor perks are not even given a second look, so it'd be nice to see the forgotten perks given some love and I don't think Killers would complain dealing with a stronger Technician if it means one less meta perk, like DS.
I meant only the Survivor aura reading, not the Gen one, but I think that it would be cool if this perk could counter Surveillance and Gear Head.
Honestly, get rid of the range reduction nonsense.
Just make the generator silent while using the perk, regardless of how many are on it.
Now it's decent.
Feng Min having an ally buffer perk wouldn’t make much sense because she is supposed to be a lone wolf type of survivor. I’d much rather them just buff the effect to be much better, but have it deactivate while near other survivors.
for example:
The noises made by your generator repairs are reduced by 50%/75%/100%.
Failing a generator skill check will not alert the killer to your location.
Deactivates while within 8 meters of other survivors.
it's should silence the gen completly as well. Now it is good.
Probably too strong/impactful of an effect to put on a passive perk.
Not really, if a gen is not making any noise, but the killer can clearly see that the generator is active, then they're going to know someone is working on it. The whole idea with the buffs we're suggesting is to turn it into a stealth perk so the Killer might not check the particular gen you're working on. Making it a really useful perk for indoor maps. That's why it would need to be a shared perk in order to work, otherwise another survivor will start working on it, discordance goes off, or they fail a skillcheck and it's all over.
The effect itself isn’t too strong, but to attach it to a perk that already has 2 not too terrible effects AND it being passive would probably be too much.
Maybe if you had to work to make the perk activate, like for example, having to avoid co-op actions for 120 seconds, then it might be balanced. Confusing because it would have 3 different effects, but most likely balanced.
