A Totem Counter (ideas and counter ideas welcome)

With many people using NoED, it’s becoming almost a necessity for both SWF teams and solo queue players to cleanse totems while repairing generators. While this is a good side objective to somewhat slow generator repair times, it can be quite a nuisance for solo queue players to avoid while SWF teams can easily keep track of the amount of totems done. When solo queuing, you’re stuck with 2 choices: to repair gens and hope everyone else is doing totems and risking NoED, or do totems having no idea of how many totems your teammates have done, which could cause the person to waste more time and be less efficient (and both sides should be playing as efficient as possible, right?) With a totem counter, all survivors, SWF or not, could see how many totems are left to take precautions.

Being able to see how many totems are left could push the urgency for survivors to leave gens alone for a bit and cleanse totems preemptively. This wouldn’t make SWF teams that much stronger since they can already keep track of how many totems were done over coms, so it would almost serve as a minor convenience. This would mostly help solo queue players the most since they can also keep track of the totems left, whether their teammates are SWF or not.

A totem counter would not just be a feature solely to counter perks like NoED, but it can be a convenience to other perks like Inner Strength, Detective’s Hunch and Thrill of the Hunt. While totems can be thought of a side objective meant to be challenging, hidden and distracting, their hidden totem spots (which are slowly improving) should be the main challenge instead of not knowing how many are left. Thoughts are welcome!

  • I simply think Thrill of The Hunt should have a totem counter. That perk is in an urgent need of a buff.

  • If NOED was basekit, therefore making totems a full actual secondary objective, then a "totem counter" would be reasonable. Even then, instead of a simple totem counter cluttering the screen, I would instead go for a global notification for cleansing dull totems, like there is for hex totems.

Otherwise, even if NOED became meta, an entire UI feature to counter a single perk which may or may not even be present in the match is a pretty disproportionate balance of focus.

  • A lot of killer mains hate the idea, but I think it'd be fine IF they also made Hex Perks a lot better protected. As it is, most hex perks are cleansed way too fast. Especially since hex perks LOVE to spawn next to generators, and even when they don't survivors have their spawn locations memorized. I think they'd also have to increase the amount of time to cleanse a totem. Maybe to 24 seconds.

You dont counter that perk by showing how many left . You just give them a notification. I think its a good idea but noed needs to be buffed because it may not even activate. Also the reason it does activate most games is due to how unnecessary it is to cleanse totems. Noed needs to have its current power and also maybe add bitter murmur effect to that when all gens are fixed. It would make cleasing totems a high priority.

Do you mean Small Game? Because Thrill of The Hunt does have a totem counter, but it's a killer perk.

Because if you mean Small Game I totally agree with you. Detective's Hunch is arguably almost better at actually finding totems, so it would be a cool little buff to Small Game.

You see this is why I'm going to fail my tests in July.
