Use Mad Grit, at level 2 you neutralize the effect, at level 3, you have 1 extra second of action, not only that, constantly swinging it will increase movement speed, and the best of it, you have no cooldown, you can swing like a savage.
If you're having issues with it carrying then you're doing something wrong. If you're having issues with it chasing someone who's injured... I think there should be a perk that lets you push people or something if you're that close.
