Yeah, I know they get these reports, which is why they keep stressing it's not bannable and tell people not to submit those reports, but can you imagine the ridiculous number they'd get if they came out and said it is bannable? Every survivor who has a bad game would submit a report. I've been accused of stuff I never did during the match because the survivor's view of what the killer is doing is both limited and biased.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2883547#Comment_2883547
It feels toxic, but it's rarely personal. It's a tactic. Not a good one, not a fun one, but a tactic nonetheless. Almost every time someone comes on these forums asking what they're supposed to do to slow down gens, multiple responses will tell them to tunnel one survivor out as fast as possible. That's the truth, going from a 4v1 to a 3v1 is unfortunately the best way to slow down gens. So, a killer who struggles with chases and struggles with gen pressure catches one survivor, puts them on a hook, and then tries to get them to die as fast as possible. Some hit survivors on the hook to say "hurry up and die." Some hit survivors on the hook because they (no joke) think it speeds up the sacrifice process.
(I'm not saying camping is never done to be malicious, only that it's rarer than most people think. Just like a lot of teabagging is tactical rather than toxic, trying to get a killer to chase you instead of someone who's dead on hook.)
I hate when I'm camped first thing, most people hate when it happens to them. But it's bad game design. It's human nature to take the easiest path, and the easiest paths are 1. 3v1, and 2. camping. So that's what players will do, they'll do the easiest things that provide the best results.
How I or you or any other player interprets the EULA is irrelevant. How BHVR meant it, what they interpret it to mean, is the only deciding factor in the end. You can argue it for the rest of your life, but the best outcome you could hope for is to see the EULA changed to remove the word "enjoy." If that's your end goal, then okay, cool.

The devs rarely comment on the forums about what they're up to anymore because it usually bites them in the ass. Devs actually used to be somewhat active here, but I think the community's attitude kind of chased them off. They occasionally have dev streams on Twitch where they might mention what they're working on, but they keep "things in progress" to a minimum because once you say you're working on it then people expect to see it and see it soon. There are things the devs mentioned working on years ago that got scrapped, but people act like those were promised and still bring them up to this day.
So, the devs aren't going to comment on it, and I don't think the staff/mods are allowed to comment on ongoing projects.
I wasn't trying to say that we'll see results in the near future, only that the devs do care and are working on it.

First off, here's a link to DbD's Twitch, where they do their dev streams: https://www.twitch.tv/deadbydaylight/
Here's a link with some other details about how the devs view camping (and why they refrain from banning people for doing it): https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Developer_Q%26A%27s#Are_there_any_plans_to_punish_facecampers.3F
And here's the link you actually asked for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIocxDbQ-9g&t=2740s

... out of curiosity, you do know BHVR is working on a way to discourage camping within the game, right? It's not an easy fix, because everything they've tested in the past is easily abused by halfway-coordinated survivors, but the devs seemed pretty optimistic about their current idea when they mentioned it in a recent stream. Even if they don't go through with that one, I doubt they'll just give up.
Most people, including the devs, don't want killers standing around staring at a hook for two minutes waiting for someone to die. But the point of this thread is to encourage banning people who camp, and that's not a reasonable response to the issue. It's highly unlikely they'd ever make it bannable because if nothing else it's not enforceable. They'd have to hire a ridiculous number of people to deal with the fact that every match from now until the end of time would be reported for a camping killer, and most reports would be thrown out, but BHVR would still need people to look at each report individually. It's an unreasonable ask.
Also, where can I see the devs talk about this? I'd like to watch the stream please.

I didn't know that and thank you for sharing. Every time I have seen camping brought up I see people saying it's just part of the game. I don't think the best solution is banning. I'd much rather see the game discourage it and push the killers to their objectives. There is some hard camping behavior that I think if reported, and reports proven to be accurate, should be potentially banned. Especially if they are multiple offenders. But for the most part it seems that a lot of killers just think camping is how the game is played. I'm very glad to hear that the devs are working on this.
Also, maybe the BHVR staff here could say the devs are working on it when camping is brought up. All I see is that its not reportable....

It think this has got the the point of going around in circles. At the end of the day it's BHVR's EULA and it's up to them to decide what violates it. I have see nothing to suggest that they see it as a violation. So until they do, it's not going to be a bannable offence whether you think it should be or not.
I agree. This is why I'm commenting on this here. If this is truly how they want the game to be played it doesn't line-up with their EULA. If they decide DBD is now going to be a hook simulator game that takes away pips for something that is completely out of your control and isn't enjoyable in any way when it happens (and happens far too often) then good luck finding and keeping survivors to play in your matches.

But that is my point.
You are playing - even if you get hooked - because this is part of the game. It still is a team game. Your team should save you. AS you should save others.
If you don´t like that - that is your problem and maybe then not your game. But you are playing.
And you can´t dictate how anyone "has to" play. If some want to be silent and do nothing it is up to him and probably bad your team - but then it is that way. Nobody is forced to do anything.
If he manages to escape then - as we know - this was a pretty skillful play.
I disagree. The player on a hook that is being camped is not able to play. Unless this game is now becoming hook simulator. The killer staring at you and pretend attacking you while you progress through all three hooks is not playing. Also, many times the other survivors try to unhook the player and the killer ignores them and re-hooks the survivor immediately. This is the gameplay that I am saying is interfering with the ability to do any objectives (enjoy the game).

Make it so killers within x meters of the hook get 10 seconds of grace time before the hook timer is suspended everytime the killer is within x meters UNLESS another survivor is also in the same radius. Then the hook timer proceeds normally.
Make a weaker version of Borrowed Time basekit but remove collision detection for it as well.
Adjust generator speeds so that they take longer to do or have an additional objective such as getting parts from chests to either repair generators or exit doors.
Camping, tunneling and gen speeds are all inter connected. As soon as one is affected the other has to be as well.
I agree with all of this! The only thing I think slightly different on is when one survivor is on a gen it may be a decent time but when multiple survivors are on one gen it can go very quickly.

We see a bunch of threads about camping nearly every day.
To get things clear I am a killer main and I am 100% against camping except I can see that it is a tacticall move in endgame situations.
The devs said multiple time they are working on something. It's not like they stop if people stop raging. But from what I can see here often people don't care. They act like all of us are bad people and all of us camp and but us in a bad light and often just want some crazy stuff like bans or zones that make you hit immune.
So I asked my self do they really want a good solution that works and let's the game heal and prevail or do they just want all killer gone and they game dead
I don't think that all killers that camp should be banned but I do think the devs should change features in the game to nudge players away from camping. I'd love to hear your thoughts, as a killer, on how the game could be adjusted to prevent gameplay that interferes with the objectives of the game. BTW I think that some survivor behavior should not be allowed as well.

Be aware SWF often click to distract you from what others are doing. Like nearly finishing a gen.
I've chased and jumped in between killers tunneling and they will accidentally hit me but keep chasing the player that was just unhooked. That is what I consider tunneling.

Not if being Camped is part of the game. Then it just means you are not enjoying the Service you are supposed to.
If being camped were part of the game then you would get points for being stuck on the hook from first hook to third hook. As the game is now you lose pips when you are camped. Also the should change the game description to hook simulator.

This is what’s wrong with people on here, there is no enjoyment when you wait 10 minutes to join a match only to sit and watch on a hook until you die as you’re being camped / tunnelled.
Its why a lot of people think swf is justified, but most of us just want a less sweaty match where we can casually play and have fun and not worry about waiting loads of time to get into a match only to be camped the entire time.
I don't mind playing with a killer who is a challenge or if I die. But camping does prevent the hooked player from doing anything. Like you said, who wants to wait in a queue just to be hooked, camped and killed. Whether I'm the survivor hooked or not is irrelevant. The hooked player was not allowed to play the match. This isn't hook simulator.

I think for some people this is not the right game to play.
... but but but i have the right to win. Nobody has that.
That is a player vs player game - with 2 opposite goals to achieve. If one side is better it will always be annoying or frustrating for the other side.
Killer has to kill - Survs have to escape - by any means. That is the game. That has to be the fun.
How you achieve this is irrelevant - as we know - Kills/Escapes=Skill.
You have to accept that - if you like it or not.
I don't think anyone has the right to win. I very much enjoy this game, whether I survive or die, when I get the ability to play it! It's not true to say you can win by any means though. All games have codes of conduct and objectives for you to complete. DBD already recognizes that some gameplay isn't allowed. I wish they would add more features like the crows that give away your position if you stand in one place too long. I've played matches where a survivor did literally no objectives. They ran around the map hiding. Eventually they were the only survivor left and after about 2 mins of the killer searching they killer had to open the door to end the game. This shouldn't be allowed either. Maybe a solution would be if a survivor hasn't done any objectives for some amount of time the crows show up until they do something. I don't know what the answer is but camping does interfere with the hooked players ability to do any objectives (enjoy the match).

I am not trying invalidate anyone's experiences, but who does this happen to, really? Every game? Even every other game? I'm skeptical. This seems up there with the "I ran the killer for 5 gens" tier of exaggerations for effect.
I have played a lot of survivor (~1K hours, I would guess), and while I have certainly experienced quite a bit of camping, the number of times I have been facecamped more than once in a single day is really low. Two or three games in a row, even rarer. More than that? Never.
I may be presumptuous here, but I think a lot of people have very loose definition of camping, and like tunneling (where this is even more pronounced), they feel like they are being camped, but really are not.
But I suppose this comes down to how people define these things. And I know I am limited by my own experience, but I find it difficult to believe people are out there getting camped every thing game, or even half the time.
As for the topic, I think it's only really camping if the killer is given reason to leave the hook (no other survs around, gens getting done), but refuses to. The team has to give the killer a reason to leave the hook. If I hook a surv and immediate see other survivors moving in like vultures, I will probably hang out. That isn't camping, that's crap surv play by the team. While on hook you might not be able to see everything that is going on.
And the law of averages would indicate that for every time you get camped, there's going to be a time your teammate is camped, and you are ignored.
I'm very glad to hear this isn't your experience with the game. Unfortunately about 80% percent of my matches killers are camping. It's not always me but they make it impossible for us to help the hooked survivor. Many of these matches where the killer is camping they will completely ignore me while I stand right next to them. If I take the player off the hook in front of them they grab the same player. If I have another survivor there trying to get in between the killer and the hooked player I am unhooking they ignore us both. Whether this happens every once in a while to you or about 80% of the matches like me doesn't change the fact that this gameplay shouldn't be allowed. I lose pips in these matches as well.

Incorrect. There is no entitlement to three hooks per game. That's just the maximum amount of individual hooks you are allotted before you are sacrificed. If you had an entitlement to three there would be no timer and/or you'd simply teleport to some area of the map to respawn.

I never said you were entitled to three hooks. The game is designed to have a chance to get off the hook. Camping prevents this thus interferes with the players ability to enjoy the game (do any objectives).

The entire point of flashlight saves is to prevent the killer from hooking the survivor.
Hooking the survivor and activating the corresponding perks is part of the killer's game play.
Thus flashlights prevent the killer from playing that part of the game causing the issue.
As for Dead Hard it prevents hits and thus causes the above by different means.
Same goes for ALL STUNS IN THE GAME! As a stun inherently prevents you from playing for its duration thus using pallets/head-on/Decisive Strike would also violate EULA according to the way you interpreted it.
So lets not argue semantics anymore as that part of the EULA is meant for people who prevent the game from ending at all. Aka things like holding the game hostage by body blocking a survivor in a corner(As either role). Camping/Slugging both cause the game to end so they don't count even if it takes a while.
@Advorsus said:
Y'all keep saying the same thing. But if the killer isn't camping, they just hook and leave, and the other 3 survivors don't save you, they should all 3 be bannable right? The results are the same. You were stuck on hook for the entire time, they kept you from being able to play the game because the let you die on hook. So all 3 should be banned right?
It's ridiculous to apply it to one side but not the other. DBD would have no players at that point.
The stun prevents you from playing the game for a very short duration, not the remainder of the match until you die. You can continue to do you objectives and play. There is a big difference.

According to this statement then people should be able to report each other for just about anything that is deemed unfun by the other side.
You could report a player for using flashlights, or using dead hard if you take this too literally.
I agree that it can't be a blanket statement of enjoyment of the game. If there are parts of the game that a player may not enjoy, like a flash light stun, but they can move on in that same match and continue to play. Camping is forcing that match for that player to be only hanging on a hook and lose pips. That is interfering with someone's ability to enjoy the BHVR service.

No, the survivor is playing. They're on the hook. That's part of the gameplay of being survivor. The survivor not enjoying that part of the gameplay is irrelevant, you can't ban someone for doing their objective within the game's rules just because you don't find their objective fun. You go in knowing that you can end up on the hook. If you don't like being on a hook, don't play survivor in Dead by Daylight.
If the killer is camping the hook, then the other survivors are free to do gens, which means the survivor on the hook is actually helping their team by keeping the killer busy. Some survivors keep the killer busy by leading him on a long chase, some survivors keep them busy by dangling on a meat hook. Preferring to keep the killer busy in a chase rather than on a hook is a preference.
Being on a hook is part of playing, so being camped on a hook isn't preventing you from playing. You are playing by being on a hook, it just doesn't feel very interactive. That's the truth of it. It sucks, but that's how the game's designed.
If that were the case then the game should give you points for being hooked once and staying until you die. Instead you get penalized (lose pips) for this and you have no control over it.
Also, No one is saying they don't ever want to be hooked. You are correct, that is part of the game and the survivors can't complete their objectives if no one is hooked. The issue is when someone is forced to die after on hook. They are forced into a gameplay that is interfering with their ability to play the game (or we would gets points for for dangling on a meat hook).

Being on a hook is part of the game, You could equally argue being hooked robs you of your ability to play.
LOL the devs are gonna have a chuckle about this one for sure.
Yes, being on a hook is part of the game and the survivors cannot complete their objectives if a killer does not hook someone. No one is saying that you shouldn't be hooked. The issue is when a killer camps the hook, forcing the player to progress through all three hooks.
Killers are not allowing other survivors to unhook the hooked player and are standing right at the hook (sometimes pretend attacking the player) as they progress through the hooks and die. This is not in-line with all the objectives and the EULA.

No, cause Camping is an outcome of the way the game is played. You still have the ability to enjoy it, you are just not skilled enough to do it.
Its a nice try, but April 1st was yesterday.
Being hooked once and being forced to stay there for all three hooks has nothing to do with skill. If the killer camps the hook there is no way to escape. This is why camping is interring with a players ability to enjoy the BHVR service.

You are using the words in the BHVR account EULA and trying to apply them to actions inside DBD when they do not apply.
A killer camping you to death is not preventing you from playing DBD. You were still engaging with survivor gameplay elements the entire time. If being camped in a match somehow prevented you from playing another match of DBD, then the EULA would apply.
Not to mention that the devs have already stated that camping is not a bannable offense.
You have no real point.
Where have the devs stated that camping is not a bannable offense? The only place I have seen this is in this forum and we are discussing how it contradicts the EULA. Once again the EULA does not say that you are not allowed to prevent a player from entering another match. If that is what they were intending they would have said that.
-
@TragicSolitude said:
So, if the killer stops me from doing gens, I should be able to report them because the only thing I enjoy doing is gens? I mean, if the killer doesn't let me work on the gen, they are totally interfering with my ability to enjoy the game.
(If it's not obvious, I'm being sarcastic, because what each person "enjoys" is completely subjective and not something that can be forced upon other players.)
I know being hooked isn't fun and I've complained about that multiple times on these forums, but it is part of normal gameplay. Let me stress this: the survivor being on a hook is part of the gameplay. A killer's goal is to put survivors on hooks. A survivor being blocked in a corner unable to die or work on gens is not part of normal gameplay, because forcing a survivor to stand around for ten minutes doing nothing is nobody's objective.
No one likes being camped on the hook, but it's not bannable. No matter how you try to reinterpret the rules, it's not bannable. Can you imagine if it were? Every single match would result in a report because the killer didn't immediately walk away from the hook, and the staff at BHVR would actually have to look at each and every support ticket. It would completely clog up the report system. It's not enforceable.
Don't criticize the players who are playing within the game's rules. Criticize the game mechanics. Being stuck on a hook unable to do anything isn't fun. Being slugged unable to do anything isn't fun. And being taken out of a game within 60 seconds of loading in isn't fun. Wait, why is anyone playing survivor at all?
You may not agree with the legal verbiage in the EULA but they chose those words specifically. If someone doesn't "enjoy" the objects they need to complete in the game then they just don't enjoy the game and that game is not for them. If someone is preventing you from playing the game at all and you can not complete any objectives, whether they are your preferred objectives or not, they are interring with that players ability to enjoy the game.
-
@Crowman said:

It is not.
A survivor on hook will eventually die thus ending the game.
Body Blocking a survivor into the corner of the map does not allow the game to end. While EGC existence generally prevents many situations where games do not end. It's possible for the killer to body block the last survivor into the corner without EGC being active.
That is true and fair. The game will eventually end.
But the EULA does not only say that you can't hold a game hostage. It says you can not interfere with the ability of others to enjoy playing a BHVR service. If they wanted it be more specific then they would have said specifically said something like "prevent someone from logging into the game" but they didn't. Any gameplay that does not work towards the objectives and completely prevents a player from working towards their objectives is gameplay that interferes with that players ability to enjoy a BHVR service therefore not in line with the EULA.

We are talking about a rule in the EULA for your BHVR account. Playing in a way in DBD that others do not find fun is not bannable and not covered by the EULA. You can't pick external rules and apply them to a single game of DBD.
The only reason body blocking someone in a corner and not letting them do anything is bannable is simply because I believe the devs have said it is bannable since it is related to holding the game hostage.
Forcing a player to stay on a hook, not letting the other survivors take them off the hook is the same thing as forcing them in a corner and holding the player there. I have played numerous games where the killer will ignore the other survivors (who are standing right there as they just took the player off the hook) and re-hook the same survivor. They are holding the game hostage in same way body blocking is.

Because you are taking a rule about interfering with your ability to play a match by complaining about the actions inside the match. Being camped in a match does not prevent you from playing more matches.
It being common or not does not change the fact you at no point are being prevented from playing the game.
It seems that you are interpreting this rule to apply only if someone has blocked a person from being able to log into the game and play... I would agree that if someone were to do that they would be violating this rule as well. But interfering with my ability to do objectives applies too. Like a mentioned before, I don't know if banning a player that camps is always the best solution. I think if a killer is standing there and pretend attacking a survivor on the hook and ignoring all other survivors who unhook them only to hook the same survivor again should be banned. Unfortunately, this gameplay is very common. I would hope that the devs will see that this is not a fun and encouraging way to keep survivors playing the game and add suggestions/nudges towards objectives to the game e.g. the crows when a player stands in one position for too long.

You not being saved on hook and dying it not interfering with your ability to play.
You can always queue up and play another match.
Saying to queue up in another game is not relevant to the match I was in that the killer camped me in. Every match is part of the game... If this was an uncommon gameplay among killers than I would say "Well the killer was a jerk" and move on to the next game. But this is very common and the game is literally forcing me to sit there while the killer "pretend" attacks me on a hook since there attacks do nothing.... In addition to that I lose pips... I don't see how moving to another match addresses the issue.

I would have to agree. You are still technically playing the game. Whether you're running around, sitting on a gen, or sitting on a hook.
If you were hooked, and the killer left to go do whatever else, and your teammates never came and saved you because they were doing gens or healing or whatever, and you died on hook, should your teammates therefore be banned because they didn't drop everything to come save you? No that would be ridiculous right? But either way, the results are the same. The gameplay experience is still the same. You're still not having fun right? So that would mean that every other survivor should be banned along with whatever they were doing. It simply doesn't make sense.
I believe you're simply taking a single sentence out of context to justify your being upset because you lost a specific match. Especially since someone from behavior already told you in another post you made about the same thing, that you're misinterpreting the terms and rules.
I agree that banning for camping may not be the answer. The toxic behaviors of a survivor player are just as bad to both killers and survivors. The game could do a much better job at encouraging players to play with the objectives in mind. An example that the game already has is the crows that appear when you are standing in one spot for too long.

If the game was designed that you had to be hooked 3 times before death, then you would never progress to 2nd hook state on your first hook.
You have 3 hook states and you can be killed in less than 3 hooks. Nothing unintended is happening.
The intent is for the other survivors to be able to try to unhook you (or you can try to unhook yourself but really that is a very slim chance) and if they fail you progress. This is not possible if the killer just stands there. The killer is also encouraged to complete other objects but they stay at the hook and watch the player progress through all three hooks. This is clearly interferes with the ability of others to enjoy playing a BHVR service.

Your ability to play DBD is not being interfered by being camped.
You may not like it, but being on a hook is simply a part of survivor gameplay.
The game is designed to be hooked three times. Camping the hook is altering the features of the game so that you are hooked once and die. This is literally altering the players ability to play the game as intended.

I made a mock-up of the kind of messaging I'm talking about (obviously you all could sort out what the wording should be, and make a dedicated icon/image, maybe something more actionable, but the shorter the better)
Yes, thank you! Can we please get more active coaching like this and the crows that expose a survivor that isn't moving? Anything that suggests players play in a less toxic manner. Both killers and survivors have certain gameplays that make the match unfun for the entire team. It's incredibly frustrating when you lose pips due to another players decisions. Suggestions like this and gentle nudges in a helpful direction would make this game much for fun to play!
