according to the player count, not that many are uninstalling. the ones that uninstall cant take the heat so they get out the kitchen, which is for the best. better than having them DC all the time out of frustration ruining other peoples matches.

Where can I see the uninstall count?

    Tunnel trash killers.

Killer can take any perk and still get a 4k.
Survivor is locked into taking anti this and that. Survivors have to meta while killers don't.
    It's that simple.

No sympathy for the power role.
Whining about a killer not obliterating every round is simply ignorant.

My friends prefer survivor and they constantly complain about tunneling more than anything else. Only getting to play 20% of the game has to be a very frustrating experience.

Pretty much I agree and the cheating is the biggest phantom menace here because its covered beneath the shroud of antitunneling, anticamping and antisluging changes with no one talking about it which kinds bad, the nimber of speeders or people having more than 4 perks and I would say wallhackers is outraging now and how you said the report system is kinda poor in options.

I still play killer and probably will after the changes because I started to play more blight and the feeling is great, he is so fast and every right use of your power gets you rewarded not like trapper or ghostface powers, he is so fast and feels so fluid he is like kind of drug what you take when you struggle to wake up, even the fact I hate still how busted he is he is just like main character who can take it all alone head on and biggest joke is survivors like him more than other weaker killers so they give up less.

I had a meg the other day so fast I couldn't start chase. I was stalk mode myers, but she was at least 4.3 m/s. I killed her, but just because of bloodlust and a lack of skill on her part. I know people try to subtly cheat, but it's pretty easy to tell.

I heard they fixed something about them recently. That true?

  • So what would it take? What do I have to do to prove that I am in a high MMR and that I am still getting 4Ks? I don't want excuses why it can't be done, I want out of this BS.

  • Look, I am tired of the MMR excuse. If I get 100 4ks in a month, would that lay it to rest? No tunneling, camping, and slugging as necessary.

I think your having a major misunderstanding here. Your MMR is not the same as your emblem. Your MMR doesnt care if you get 8 hooks or 0 hooks, all it cares about is kills. If your constantly letting survivors go, you're tanking your MMR and ensuring your in the lowest ranks. That doesnt give you a very good idea on things when your facing survivors who are also at the lowest ranks.

No, I get it. Everyone is saying I am fighting the babies. All I can do is keep spouting the same stuff since everyone else is doing the same thing. I can play a match or ten in front of you if you need proof of skill. It's not like I have 2200 hours of experience and learn to play the game in that time. I definitely never hit iri 1 and went months of struggling in matches as I learned the ins and outs of the game. Nope, just babies. The entire time. Anything I ever did before my current playstyle doesn't exist. Completely invalidated and rightly so. It's shameful that I ever thought about anything other than stats and kdrs.

This thread has been so soul sucking. I regret ever making it.

mate… no one has a problem with you deciding to play in a way you enjoy. good for you. have your fun.

but you are only playing on low MMR. It's the logical conclusion of you playstyle.

you are only facing easy survivors. so you can afford to play however you want.

you can't talk about high MMR. because you need to win matches to get there.

and also, why do you think you are being kind? do you know what the other people are thinking? do you know what they want?

I want the game to be challenging. I don't like easy wins, I also wanna say I actually won the game instead of it being handed to me. If I ever faced you, I would not think you are being kind, I would think you are taking pity, and I don't want that. I think it's very unkind of you to not try your best.

So how does that work? Is it kind because you said so? Do the receiving end have an input at all?

I'm sure you can find people who would agree with you on it being kind. But what about the people who disagree? Do they matter here?

I think I am being kind because I am killing the survivors evenly. I am reducing the worst thing survivors deal with. Downtime. It does not matter if I let them go or get the 4k. It's what's BHVR is trying to fix, it's what has to go. The best way to do that is prevent dying within the first 5 minutes to scummy tactics. This would make life so much less frustrating for survivors and should have been dealt with years ago before people got use to the scum.

  • @OmegaXII said:

So... In other words you're just smurfing? Purposefully lower your MMR so you're having easy games with baby survivors?

Honestly I think you should just play custom games with bots, if you hate killing so much.

Oh, hey. Look. It's the same thing said by another person. I'm just trying to tell people to be kind and yet it is like pulling teeth. You are welcome to watch me play. I only brought up my catch and release playstyle to demonstrate having sympathy for another player.

Even if I was some sort of bottom feeding smurf sucker, what is the result of it? Four people have a nicer experience.

wwatching you play wouldnt prove anything if you going against low mmr players. thats why i asked what your kill rate is.

The ranking system in the game being MMR goes up when you kill. in order to v high mmr players you need to kill. You have admitted to "usually dont get any kills" which means you cant be going against high mmr which is the point im making.

If you watch me kill, you would know my kill rate. You are by no means the first person to have this thought and neither will you be the last unfortunately. I don't even know what to tell you. Am I suppose to have been tracking my own KDR? No one gave me that memo.

  • @PetTheDoggo said:

When I play killer, I usually don't even kill anyone. I get my eight hooks and then let them escape.

    Yeah, that's the reason…
You simply can't play against competent survivors when you never hook. Not hard to play against that for sure.

You are welcome to watch me play as well. If I go on what I could only assume at this point to be a "documented journey" proving I have skills to pay the bills due to all the scrutiny, will you join me as someone saying these changes need to happen?

  • @runningguy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4001276#Comment_4001276

However the fact you admit you intentionally lose matches means your mmr cant be high mmr. i am curious what your kill rate is with myers. Claiming you lose (tanking you mmr) then saying you play sweaty v high mmr in the same sentence makes no sense.

If you are so concerned about my skill against more experienced players, you are welcome to hang out and watch me play. If I prove to you that I am not just bottom feeding, will you be willing to admit the changes are not so bad?

Even if you just USUALLY dont kill anyone, your still purposely losing over and over. Thats like an Overwatch player at the bottom of bronze saying their opponents arnt THAT hard, so everyone is exaggerating.

The only reason I bothered saying that I let people go was to illustrate the point of sympathy for the other side. It's okay to think about EVERYONE playing the game. Not just yourself. I do not expect you to play how I do. Just because my ego doesn't demand I go for 4Ks doesn't mean I don't know how to play against higher MMR killers. Everyone is so eager to point out the MMR/skill difference, but no one stops to think why I do it in the first place. To be kind.

  • Yes. I specified I am a killer main. I wanted to specify that I am someone with the party that is getting "nerfed." I am talking from a point of view as someone who will be negatively impacted by these changes and yet still wants them to go through.

  • @runningguy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4001202#Comment_4001202

i believe the point of the thread was to highlight that killers dont NEED to use certain "dirty tactics". But your missing the point, that only applies to low mmr. high mmr is very different. what happens when these tactics get removed so low mmr have a better time? result is the high mmr with the swf sweat teams will make the experience unfun for the killer and make them OP. you rely on underperforming to achieve easy chill matches.

OK lets flip it. Do you propose SWF teams handicap themselves but not having coms to make the match more fun for the killer?

You are correct. I am stating that killers do NOT need to use certain tactics. That is why they wanted to implement the changes. To fix it. There are some difference how I play in low and high MMR though.

    Low MMR
    -Low Effort
-More time waiting for gens to get done
    -No Tier III

    High MMR
    -Sweaty effort
    -Sometimes gens get done
    -Tier III is a must

Just because I spare babies doesn't mean I don't know or never have played against iridescent players. Either quality of survivors, I do just fine without camping or tunneling and slugging only when necessary. These are the things that are trying to be removed. If someone like me can do well without it, then ANYONE should be (more) capable.

The reason these changes are being made is to improve the quality of life for survivors. If everyone dies evenly, then no one is stuck with as much downtime. Downtime is the WORST thing a video game can have in it. You play because you want to be engaged. To be entertained. You are not either of these things if you have to sit and wait while watching everyone else having fun.

BHVR wouldn't have to change anything if we all played nice. But asking everyone to do that is an unreal expectation. That's why systems are being put in place to force us to play nicer. I'm just saying it's a necessary change and it's not as bad as everyone thinks. That's it.

  • @PetTheDoggo said:

You can hook. You can kill. That's not the point of the thread. The point is that the scummier tactics at a killer's disposal need to be removed so the survivors have a much needed quality of life improvement in the form of less downtime from being tunneled out.

  • @LordGlint said:

The guy is actively claiming he never kills anyone... aka he purposely loses EVERY game. Of course he's having an easy time, hes playing against the lowest MMR.

As for the topic, things like slugging have their have their roles in this game. As long as there's ways to deny killers getting a survivor to the hook, slugging has a purpose and shouldn't be removed. If you want to remove slugging, the hooking mechanic as a whole needs an overhaul.

    I never said I never kill anyone. I said I usually don't.

Out of tunneling, camping, and slugging, I do slug. I have stated such in this thread. When I find someone that has two hooks already, I slug instead of kill them. It would be too hard if I just always let people that are two hooked run unchecked. Better they take a quick nap instead of being removed from the rest of the game.

Yes, I cannot go above rank 1 for gold with this playstyle. I imagine this does impact my MMR in some fashion. There's more that goes into MMR than that, but I understand the simplicity. I am more than happy to show you me playing against iri 1 people. If I do and you see that I am not just good against babies, will you concede that the nerf is not a big deal?

  • @Brimp said:

Ranks don't determine your matchmaking anymore. Havent for years. There's an MMR system that is based off kills for killer and if you get maybe 1 kill every 5 matches then safe to say you're at the lowest of the low MMR meaning you CAN 8 hook as the weakest killers in the game if you actually are not going tier 3.

Not everyone wants to play as "Mr. Nice Guy" they want to play as the actual killer role and increase their mmr playing against survivors that understand the basic gameplay of DBD.

Yes. A lot of people prefer to play like a cold hearted killer. And that's okay. But as a cold hearted killer, they are making the survivors miserable. That's why things have to change for the survivors benefit. That means taking away the worst tactics the killers can use against them. Or in this case, debuff you for using them. You can still do them.

  • I'm seeing a lot of scrutiny and I get it. I'm making a claim that it's easy to play and that the changes that help survivor quality of life result in an increase difficulty for killers but not a big enough difference for it to matter. As a result, you look for any flaws you can to prove that I am a terrible player, or lying, or whatever excuse to say I am wrong and that it's not fair for killers to take one for the team.

I'm happy to prove myself. You're welcome to come to our discord and hang out. I can also stream. I can also upload to youtube if you want. But let's say you call my bluff, check it out, and see I am telling the truth. Would you then being willing to concede that's it's easy enough for killers to take this hit? And if not, what would it take to convince you?

I'm not trying to lie or trick anyone into anything. I'm not trying to flex my skill, you're welcome to shout I suck from the rooftops. I am just using myself as an example to offer some proof to help convince you. It's the only real data I got. I'm simply saying it's not the end of the world that a slight increase to killer difficulty in the form of getting them to play in a more sportsmanlike manner for the sake of survivor quality of life improvements.

Even when there's not a system in place to prevent such tactics, it's okay to not lower yourself to that level. It's okay to be a kind gamer and a good person. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not your friend. And being either one of those things doesn't mean you have to take it as far as I do. No one expects you to be satisfied with eight hooks. You can still kill people. You can still get the 4K. Just think of it as doing it with some style, some class. Think of it as dunking on the competition if that helps. Regardless of the reason you need, you would be making the gaming experience of four other people better at the cost of some bloodpoints and I think that's a great trade to make.

The ranks or grades which ever you like to call them i just don't ever see them as an indicator of someone's skill. it only reflects how much time you've played within a month and doesn't reflect what your actual skill or MMR is. I play Wraith and Billy that I've rarely played i can tell I'm playing against babies while my the killer's that I do often play Xeno, Artist, Knight and SpringTrap i can clearly tell I'm against much more efficient survivors that I get steam rolled myself sometimes. Every killer has their own separate invisible MMR we can never see.

I find games far more fun myself without slugging or tunneling for both sides and I'm all for the anti-tunnel/slug being added into the game as well, but they need to be done very carefully so it can't be abused or weaponized by one side of the other.

Also I'm at work right now only get maybe a few hrs of DBD per week. So my highest grade that I might get would be silver. Never really payed attention to the grades of other players.

You're right that there's a lot more that goes into MMR than killer rank. The groups I go against vary wildly in difficulty. Some are pretty green, some are clearly well experienced. When you go against some babies, it's perfectly okay to hold back a bit so they can have their fun.

  • @cogsturning said:

Bless the fun and fair-minded killers. I aspire to this level of chill. I play serious and I kill but I also spread hooks and try to keep everyone around as long as possible. I want everyone's match to feel well-rounded. Do I lose sometimes for that compassion? Sure. But at least the match was active and full and not just four people bleeding out at 5 gens up. That's not fun to me as either role.

The only time I double-hook or slug is if people are body blocking or flashlight clicking or otherwise inviting negative attention. But even when I slug like that, it's with the intent that the person will get back up. I'm just putting them in time out for bad behavior. I'd rather them be able to stand up after 90s instead of the team having to go fetch them.

That's awesome of you. End of the day, it's just a game and we're all suppose to have fun. Thanks for being a Chiller.

  • @BlackRabies said:

I've done that myself getting 8 hooks and just letting them escape. Ive only played Wriath as a pacifists 8 hooks 0 zero kills and let them escape and it tanks your MMR for that killer to the point that your only playing against baby survivors and even just going for the 8 hooks only it's extremely easy so killing them is no effort. So if course it'll be too easy to get 4ks every game of you only play against babies.

The ranks just reset today. I can't exactly hop into an Iri game and show you that it's the same results. The only difference is that I don't play with the same handicaps. I still don't tunnel or camp. I slug when I need to still get the eight hooks. I use Tier III. The only real difference is that there's less time spent waiting at the end for survivors to finish generators. And sometimes I do lose. We all do. Sometimes I lose a gold match. That's okay. That doesn't mean I am going to resort to cheap tactics to secure the dub. I'd rather lose than force someone to spectate nearly the entire match.

I feel like the point is being lost. I'm advocating that the new changes were fine. If I suck and I still do just fine with the changes, then doesn't that mean anyone else, whether they suck or not, would also be fine with the changes? I'm just saying it's too easy to win using scummy tactics, people will always use those tactics, and so changes have to be made for a quality of life improvement for the survivors that should have been rectified years ago. It's impossible to expect everyone to just play nice so systems that force them to have to be put in. Until those are pushed to live, it's okay to play with the goal of everyone having fun rather than just yourself. You can still kill. You can still get a 4K. Go try it out right now. Just one match. See how well you do. You got nothing to lose by giving it a try.

  • @runningguy said:

must be troll post. if not then please show everyone how its done. IF indeed you are getting 8 hooks with myers while handicapping yourself then do you think its possible that you never raise your mmr above the learner ranks so always getting new players that dont know how to play? i mean you did say you dont get any kills.

    Good morning!

I played my first game of the day and took some screenshots. The Jane ended up getting mori'd at the end since she wanted to be mori'd and would not leave, but otherwise it went as any other game. I will admit they hard several gens ready to go when I finished hooking. If they prioritized better, I probably would not have 5 gens waiting.

It is true that when I play as a Chiller I don't enter Iridescent ranks. This does mean I do not always get the most challenging of players. Sadly, you can't go higher than Gold I playing this way. When doing quests that revolve killing, I do kill. Iri I players do make me sweat, but I still play the same way. A lot of times they do escape and that's okay. You don't HAVE to go for the 4K every time. Just have fun. If I pop Tier III or stop tracking hooks, it usually ends the same way though.

I'm not trying to brag though. The point is it's easily done. You can play with the new limitations just fine. It's okay to be considerate of your fellow teammates. It's okay to play at a handicap when encountering weaker players. It's better they have a good time and get the confidence to keep playing and improving at the game than just being mercilessly crushed nonstop until they ragequit the game.

and ironically it probably is fairly accurate lol

Yes, downtime really is the worst in any video game. You play because you want to be entertained the entire time. If you kill the survivors evenly, then it's more fun for them.

    It's not a troll post.
I usually play pacifist killer as well, because I know the hardship of being a survivor main. Most of the time I am satisfied with my 8 hooks, and then I often just meme around with the survivors until the end.

I do play seriously too at times, but I do so without cheesing my wins (i.e. zero tunneling, camping or excessive slugging)

Thank you for being a good killer. A chill killer. Chiller.

I would argue it would be more miserable to have to deal with a squeaker screeching and hurling slurs because they're being proxy camped or tunneled or they wanna blame their team for them dying, I feel like it opens the door for trolls who would be doing things on purpose to get a reaction whether it be for their own personal humor or a social media account

I get ya. I just want to be able to properly communicate so people stop assuming intent and being rude for essentially no reason.

    You are correct.

We also misconstrue a player behavior from time to time.

I faced a Knight who put me on my second hook as the exit gates powered. I thought he was furious as the match did not go his way.

I was rescued and escaped and saw he was a TTV. I literally joined Twitch today just to stop by and say gg because he made some awesome plays that actually scared me.

Turns out he's just a cool guy chillin. He wasn't sweating at all nor was he upset.

I gave him the SPLENDID code which he was very grateful for and we are friends now.

I also had two daily rituals for Killers I never play tonight. The Survivors were "toxic" all match until they figured out what I was there for.

Both teams allowed me to complete my rituals out of kindness in the end.

This is kind of the reason I want proximity voice chat. The communication that you can perform in DBD is really poor and often leads to misconceptions of intent. I know a lot of people are against proxy VC and I can see how that lack of communication improves the atmosphere of that game, but is it worth all the misery it brings?

    Edit: Typo

That may be true but I can say in my case there are very few pos moments in DBD. Over the course of my 1000+ hours of playing DBD I have had way more negative moments with players than positive ones. It got so bad that I had to turn off end-game chat since most of the time survivors would be rude to me after a hard match where I struggled a lot. I also had lots of moments in matches where ppl would BM me all the time. It's one of the major reasons I have stopped playing dbd bc it has affected my fun of the game a lot. Im stressed out even queueing since I never knew Im going to have a fun match or a miserable one. Unfortunately, I have no idea how you can improve this, I just think the community isn't as nice as others make it out to be.

This is essentially my OP. I want to play this great game. I want to have fun. Sometimes the other players make it not worth playing in the first place.

A culture of radical optimism is a good place to start. The social sphere is filled with so much perpetual circular toxicity and negativity that the answer to it is an equal or stronger force. Complaining comes natural- instinctual. While compliments do not. So it is an act of conscious will power to be positive. I honestly suggest that people try it. Doing good makes a person feel good. What helps me is trying to see the beauty in something.

Human nature can be on the right track sometimes, it also can be wrong a lot too. Bad things happen because of it. It’s hard to convince humans that their behavior leads to destruction. All throughout history this has been difficult to achieve because toxicity makes sense to the individual committing the negativity. This negativity is difficult to move because it has great mass and it also has great inertia. It protects itself. It needs just as great of a sustained force to stop it from being a runaway train. Instead of fighting fire with fire, it would be better to neutralize the fire in the first place.

People are used to fighting and defending themselves. If you take the fight itself away you may witness confusion or the other person’s need to fight starting to re-manifest. When this happens kill the toxicity with even more kindness.

Radical optimism I believe is the answer. Think sincere well wishes, sincere compliments on gameplay, cosmetics, names, etc. Even just being truly grateful for the other people themselves willing to play the same game together. This is the place to start in trying to tackle this behemoth of human nature in our community. Toxicity isn’t healthy. People who commit it must be suffering somehow. I see toxicity a little bit as a cry for help. So… let’s find the courage to do something about it. Who cares if your compliments get rejected. Who cares if you’re being nice then told something horrible. At least you created something good out of something bad. Let’s build the community that we want it to be. Let us be the actual change that we actually want to see.

    This is what I recommend.

Holy moly, you are smarter than me. I think this is what I have been trying to express while lacking the ability to put it in such words. I've heard a quote to something along the lines of "there is strength in kindness" and I believe your post drives it home. The negativity always felt immature to me, like a child would be. Maybe it really feels more like a person being negative over nothing is really just calling out for help from a place of frustration. If so, then the cure would be to soothe their hurt ego and let them know everything is okay. If anything, repeated online experiences have definitely proven responding to negativity with more negativity sure accomplishes a whole lot of nothing.

It would be nice, if the game told us more clearly what is and is not acceptable behaviour. We players often have different opinions on that. For example, one person might feel like bleeding all 4 survivors out for no reason at all is acceptable because the bleed out mechanic exists while others will point out, that this is at the very least unsportsmanlike conduct and should not be done. The same discussion has been had about teabagging. Some consider it fine while others don't.

So, I would very much appreciate word on which of these instances are acceptable and under what conditions seemingly harmless things go too far. The lines get blurry often times.

Your post makes me think of intent. You can do things with good intent in mind, but it's up to those around them to actually perceive it. The Jeff is super annoying to the killer, but might be a lifesaver to the other survivors. Maybe he isn't thinking about the fun of others, but just enjoys saving people. I think it's important to consider ALL players in a match and help curate the experience together to make it as much fun as possible (not saying you don't do this). A lot of people don't do that. They are focused on themselves and that often costs the others enjoyment. When players play this way, it feels so immature, selfish. Like the difference between an adult gaming and a child. Except I know some people that are 60+ and still play very selfishly.

I feel like I sound very condescending typing like this, but I don't know how else to carry the point across. I want to have fun and I want everyone else to have fun. Some people just stop that sentence short five words deep regardless of the consequences to others.

    • A few suggestions

      - Good behavior system that rewards people for not being an ass. Like more BP or shards. (Can only kudos the other side or non party members)
      - Make the report button actually work
      - Can't be hard for the game to detect people spamming crouch or even add a mechanic that makes it so that if they do it in succession it slows them.
      - Harsher penalties for leaving or disconnecting from a games
      - Hires more mods to monitor after game chats or perhaps a community judgement system like LoL (could backfire)

No matter what its going to requrie some sort of financial investment. The OP is right that DbD is one of the most toxic communitys out there. At the end of the day this is something the company shouldn't turn to ask fans about. You guys are the ones that are the devs. (And I know you are trying to help so I am not directing this at you personally for asking but its that you have to ask says the company isnt planning to do much currently.) I will say it is very frustrating that very often nothing is said from the team about the issue and it does come off that BHVR doesn't mind their game being associated with the fact that it's one of the most toxic games to play. At least something saying "Hey, we don't have an exact solution but we hope to have one by X amount of time".

The game is already extremely unfriendly to anyone who is new. So the last thing you guys need is people telling others "Oh you are looking at getting DbD? Game is fun but the community is extremely toxic so it might be best to just avoid playing." You can never really ELMINATE it but there is a lot that can still be done to get rid of it.

I chuckled at the "Make the report button actually work."

I agree with this sentiment entirely. DBD is clearly a successful game. New players could thrive a lot better if an actual effort was made to curb the negativity of some players. Effort usually means money, sure, but the potential of growth increases and helps cancel out some of the money invested while providing a better experience on the whole to all players.

You reminded me of a gaming quote I made up before: Just because we're trying to eviscerate each other with rusty spoons does not mean we can't be gentlemanly about it.

I think it would be great if the more egregious ways of making someone's match terrible were tackled. Things that aren't required for normal gameplay such as deliberate 4 minute bleedouts or tbagging at the gates for 2 minutes shouldn't be a thing.

Another good idea would make "give props" actually mean something. Give a decent bloodpoint bonus (like 10-25k) for every single Give Props you receive, and make it a seperate button from report when you hover over someone's name. This would give people a push to treat others well in the game and outside it, as they'd potentially get a small material reward for doing so.

I never understood the need to teabag at the gate or hatch. I always just left. Why would the killer want to walk across the map and watch you do that when we could end the game with the same result 30 seconds sooner and be queued up for the next game that much faster? It's like cutting into your own game time to stroke your ego.

Personally, I thought teabagging like this should close the hatch, teleport the player to the center of the map, down them, and give the killer deerstalking. But then the problem becomes trying to program to detect intent and actual people misunderstand that in the game all the time: How could a program do it better?

I'm sorry you've had a frustrating experience. It can be unpleasant but that's because humans are involved and humans can be unpleasant. Honestly I think what has hurt the game and the community the most is there is a clear divide, bias, and judgment that the community created itself. You use NOED? Trash. You main meg? Trash. You nodded at me on hook? Trash. You got a flashlight save? Trash.

Even in the forums on posts or replies it's so clear who is a "main" of something because there is a clear disconnect that can be downright rude and nasty for no reason. Some don't even bother trying to understand the struggles of the other side and just shoot out buzz words or phrases like, "toxic, entitled, git gud, gg ez" etc. People in the game are very quick to put others in boxes. You're either one or the other. People are quick to judge or assume based on the character you pick or perks you use. The community divided itself and then gets mad at what they divded.

I wouldn't say it's a super "toxic" community but it's a very judgemental community that isn't typically willing to empathize with the "other side".

I hope you have better games <3

I just want people to think about more than themselves when playing a multiplayer game. But your take on people seems to be very accurate.

I think if you love the game that you have to not love the community, because the community almost universally hate the game.

They hate playing killer, they hate playing survivor, they hate playing soloqueue, they hate playing against x killer, they hate getting caught first, they hate tunneling/camping killers, they hate other survivors, they hate not being able to DC without a penalty.

Then they should play something else that they would enjoy more. I grant the internet and it's people one group hug.

The people of the internet are not okay, and DBD is no exception. Only suggestion I can make is to pick your spaces and your battles. Close endgame chat, or just leave a ggs and then move on immediately. That way you don't concern yourself with any postgame salt. I dunno if I'd call the community toxic personally. There are certainly toxic individuals but in my experience they are few and far between. I think it helps to just remind yourself that at the end of the day it's just a game and nothing is personal. These folks don't know you from a bar of soap, and vice versa, and the majority aren't out to intentionally give you a bad time.

Re the streamer, you said he asked to be hooked and the last person then got hatch. So I'm guessing it was just the two of them left when he asked to be hooked? Lots of killers will slug the third survivor and then search for the 4th, so if the game was a clear loss he may have just wanted to move on without all that shenanigans. In that situation I don't think he was too unreasonable in asking.

I've said before that I think a rep system would be good. Instead of just focusing on punishing bad behaviour, reward good behaviour. Have the thumbs up in endgame mean something. Give and gain points, get rewards, etc. Exclude swf for obvious reasons (sorry guys).

I'm a social creature who wants to make connections after a game. I cannot ignore endgame chat. We don't know each other, no, but ideally we would grow to know one another.

The streamer tried to die super early. I ignored him and kept him alive as long as possible to "punish" him for being an early quitter. I do kill them before the game gets too far along though as I do not want a bad actor to get the bloodpoints and satisfaction of escaping.

I'd love a rep system too. Ideally, I would rather we build each other up instead of tear each other down. Low rep doesn't get punished but high rep gets rewarded. I can't think of a way to implement a system that couldn't be abused by groups of people though.

There is nothing you can do to stop people from being dicks. I had to learn that lesson the hard way too. When it happens, try to stay calm, report them and don't go out of your way to be a jerk. That's really the best advice I can give you.

Most people in this community really aren't that bad though. Many of us are quite friendly. The amount of positive interactions I've had in this game exceeds that of any other online game I've played so far.

I think one reason for this community's bad reputation is that we only remember the negative things and not forget all the nice moments.

It always blows my mind away how often people choose to be jerks when they know they can get away with it. It's okay to be a decent person even when not held accountable. I agree the best method is to stay calm, report, move on. If you get emotional and show it, you just feed the troll. But it wears me down after a while. I try to be good and people still get upset at me like I am just some jerk who doesn't care. The same song and dance gets old after a while.

The best positive community experiences came from Everquest and early Everquest 2. I felt a strong sense of community and bad actors found themselves unable to get groups to the point they would either quit game or reroll under a different name.

You are correct about remembering the bad actions more than the positive. I wish my brain worked the other way around.

You can't blame the community without blaming the game, since the game created and shaped the community. Judging by your story, you are a pure killer main, so no wonder you have no idea why playing survivor can be exhausting and frustrating sometimes, especially in soloQ, especially in the current state of the game. If you really want to understand what is going on - play a few hundred soloQ survivor matches, you know, to see the other side of the story.

I a a killer main. You are correct. I have a few hundred hours as survivor though. Playing as a killer is exhausting and frustrating too. But it's only like that when the survivors make it so. I believe we all help craft the experience of each trial. We can all help make it fun or miserable. I choose fun.

I noticed that sometimes, due to the lack of communication between opposite sides, that the intent of actions of one are misinterpreted by the other. Sometimes I slug people without the intent of going for a 4K. Usually as a means to punish them for being caught so quickly after a hook while not letting them just run free to do whatever they want. I do not tunnel and slug, but simply if we run into each other before I come across a different survivor first. I use the bleed out meter like an extra hitpoint bar so the survivor does not die as quickly. However, a lot of survivors don't see this intent. They assume I am trying to slug for the 4K.

I disagree with the game itself shaping the community. I think the game developed and the community come together to craft the overall experience. The game is not made to make us miserable or hate each other. It's simply hard to guide the actions of a player in this situation. A community can voice all their opinions as they please, but it's up to the developers to listen. Kinda takes two to tango. Lose either one of them and there is no dance to be had.

Define bad actors/apples, in case there's a few who aren't understanding, plz. :)

I know you have examples, but unless one defines things specifically, I've had 'bad apples' just word game everything.

People who perform unsportsmanlike actions instead of normal gameplay. Refusing to participate in gameplay, excessive teabagging, blocking fellow survivors, that sort of thing.
