I think depending on how quickly a player picks up skills and tactics could bring them from Novice to Intermediate (etc, etc) without being based on certain amount of hours, though what you have for ranges is probably a decent estimate. I don't know if I agree about the "refuse to play the other side" for the Novice, however, but that may just be me speaking from the fact I definitely identify as Novice but try to play both sides. I actually found that I picked up playing killer and perform better at it (at least for now) after having played the survivor side for a bit first because I was able to use my survivor think-stuff from the other side.
For my perspective, I just see these as a "how long have you been playing" ranking more than a skill ranking.

Thanks for the answers everyone!

I would love to see some of the killers as Funko Pop figures tbh. Tiny round-square-head Doctor just sounds hilarious to me.

The iconic Johnny Depp crop top look from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Available for all chars, including killers.

It honestly depends on the day. If I'm having a day where I hit all the things, I'm usually at about 70/30 with good to great ratio. If it's a bad day? I'm like 50/40/10 with missing to good to great ratio. (Skill reference: I've been playing maybe a month.)

Steve because he's pure of heart but dumb of ass. I just love him and his floofy hair.

Basically me always:

As someone who likes looking for things in any game I play, I think this could be fun! And if you have a killer that can place traps, you could put one near the item if you find it first. In general, I'm all for extra layers to a game, and I like to spread out my survivor play style between doing objectives (primary and secondary) and running in chases, so I think something like this could be cool.

I main Steve as survivor and find that I'm usually the first tunneled/hooked. I've tested other characters as well for different things, but not enough to really claim that I don't get tunneled as them.
As killer, I don't tend to tunnel on purpose, and I've actually abandoned chase with a survivor who I kept running into because I started to feel bad. (I'm really low rank, so I'm always assuming that other people are new to the game like me.) However, if I hear gens pop fast at the beginning and I find the survivor with the toolbox, I definitely try my hardest to get them on hook to slow the game down a little.

I haven't played enough killers to rank the playing as, but as for playing against...
Love:
- Freddy
- Ghostface
- Oni
These are probably on scare factors alone. I don't think I've ever escaped from any (except one Oni technically, poor guy got stuck at Lery's), but Freddy's music and ambiance are spooky and I like it, Ghostface always pops up on me and scares me, and Oni is just... so terrifying lmao.
Hate:
- Trapper
- Hag
- Doctor
Generally just have terrible experiences playing against Hag and Trapper, and while Doctor is super cool, all the screaming just asjhdbjashbda and his creepy laugh noooo.

At this point if I notice I'm just being camped and no one's coming to get me, I'll do one of two things: wait out my sacrificial sequence to try to get those struggle bps, or if I'm just mad about it, I'll try to escape and then not bother struggling so I can just exit the match and get into something more fun. Sucks to lose items and de-pip if I was the first person on hook (someone has to be, right?) and didn't get to do anything, but it's all part of the learning process. It mostly just sucks if people don't even make a move to come unhook me. That's usually when I decide to suicide on the hook so the killer runs off for the next person. 🤷

They can't allow this remember. If they even witness the slightest little bit of Entity swooping them up into the sky, their precious egos shall shatter! Best to let them bleed out on the floor. That may be a nicer way for them to die! 😏
I love watching my body ascend to the Entity's domain because of the cool sound effect tbh. 🤷 😂

It may say escape, but it doesn't count toward like rift and dailies as an escape. I was at the end of a match (I should have just run out the door but I saw a totem and the killer was chilling by the last person on hook, so I figured I had time so I cleansed it), but then the killer DC'd before I actually left the map, so I didn't get my escape toward my rift count. Jokes on me - I haven't been able to escape a match since lmao.
In general I don't get DC-ing. I saw someone DC right as they were about to be sacrificed, and it's like?? Just wait two seconds rather than being stupid.

I'm a new player, and I've been playing Survivor (aside from a few games where I played Killer for some dailies). I am Not Good, so there's that, but I really do my best to perform for the team - popping gens, cleansing totems, running the killer as long as I can when they inevitably find me because I'm just dumb and I main Steve (for now) and apparently on all maps there is a giant sign that says "HERE'S STEVE, COME GET HIM" and I'm found first. (Some are my fault. I have straight up run headfirst into a killer like an absolute tool lmao.)
But basically I expect the same from other players. If I'm running the killer nowhere near where people are for a decent amount of time, gens should be popping. I've had games where I've just run circles and had not a single one happen. I've also watched as three players had some healing circle and let me die on hook (and then when I was spectating it was super weird and looked like they were farming or something? like the killer wasn't even trying to hit them) or just straight run past me for a gen when they easily could have unhooked me and then gone for the gen.
Also like... it's so sad to be abandoned at the end after knowing I did half the gens and plenty of running. I don't mind not escaping if I can still pip up/safety pip because I'm well aware I can't escape every match, but today I didn't escape once because I somehow got paired with people that ignored the whole coop aspect of playing survivor.

I've been playing less than a month (probably more like 2 weeks) because I finally got my own copy of the game to play after my sister kept talking to me about it. Overall a pretty fun experience! I mean there are definitely times where I'm sitting there trying not to yell and flail when people do dumb things, but there's not much I can do about that when I'm not on voice chat with them.
I like playing as Steve just because I like Steve, but I find that I tend to be the first player tunneled a lot lmao. So I'm going to eventually try out other characters too and see what happens. I've played killer a few times to do some dailies, and as much as I hate going against doctors, I really enjoyed playing as The Doctor. But I'm mostly playing survivor at the moment.
Definitely planning on staying as long as my sister and friends are playing! I do SWF with them a lot, which I actually find more fun because there's voice chat but then also the killers don't tend to camp as much (my sister's a rank 4 and one of her friends is a rank 9, so the average rank for killer goes up and a lot of the time we're against like... 3s and 5s). And there's just SO MUCH to learn about perks and gameplay that it's nice having people who really know what's going on to lead me through things. Even if I die a lot. xD
