I'm a killer main and my stock build is BBQ/Pop/NOED/Blood Warden. I'm trying to win, but I don't hard tunnel/camp because I find it too annoying trying to play around BT and DS. NOED usually helps me secure a kill or two after I've gotten 6-7 hooks and everyone is alive when the last gen is completed. I've never not had NOED available because no one heals or does totems in the matches I'm playing. I'm able to get some Blood Warden value specifically because NOED is in play and I stay on the hunt.

I noticed this when large streamers that main SWF were arguing until they were blue in the face that SWF doesn't give any advantages. Now the streamers that can win easily while chilling and talking to chat are worried about getting one kill or less against tough teams. I personally find content where the killer is getting dunked on by a top team and complaining about how unbalanced everything is to be the most entertaining content.

Smurfing is an issue in DbD at the moment and that will never be countered unless the rank system is changed completely which it is, I mean I was trying to do a grind from Rank 20 to Rank 1 in Solo Cue and the first game I found a 3man Smurfing SWF bullying a new rank 20 Executioner. Now I let the man get a 3k because I left the SWF for dead and I also decided to message the killer and I ended up buying him a DLC for going through over 10 Head On stuns, 7 Flashlight Saves and chases that lasted longer than all my relationships. I also played a few customs with him and taught him some basics on looping certain tiles as well as playing Executioner.
Look no matchmaking will be perfect and when SBMM starts there will be a few issues and that's the sad reality although I do believe there should be a different Matchmaking System for Killers than Survivors so people can practice playing harder killers such as Nurse against newer or less good survivors (either that or a practice mode). The main issue is getting rid of Smurfs so newer players can learn to play different killers as well as have a fun time playing.
I just want to say that was very nice of you to help him out like that. This game is very unforgiving for newbies, especially when they're getting matched against sadists with thousands of hours that derive pleasure from making the game as miserable as possible for their outmatched opponent. It's awful for player retention and something I warn people about when they ask me about this game.

I mean I didn't make this post nor one like it, but I eventually just stopped playing killer and started playing a lot more survivor. I would recommend they do the same.
I used to be a 50/50 player, now I'm like 95/5. I'd rather wait in the 10 minuet que than have unfun games on the weaker side.
More on point with your question, some of the reasons I have gathered from others would include: they just find survivor boring, the reason they got the game was to play as iconic killers or just as a killer in general not to run away, they don't like relying on teammates, most (if not) all of their progress is on killer side, their favorite character is one of the killers, or some combination of those reasons. I'm sure there's other reasons but that's what I've heard personally.
There's a lot more satisfaction in winning at killer. I know that if I 4K an above average team with a weaker killer, I feel a lot better about my victory because I know that BHVR didn't hold my hand to help me get that win. I've never felt I did anything special or felt accomplished when escaping while playing in a full SWF with my friends, it's just a fun activity to do with your friends together.

The delay on the scratch marks is just awful, it makes it so difficult to track survivors. It looks like the survivor went one way when they've actually completely left in another direction. I wish they would fix that.
I would also be happy if they just completely changed Iron Will to do something that isn't related to sound. I think it's the source of all of the audio bugs in the game. They're having too much difficulty implementing this perk in a fair manner that doesn't break other parts of the game. Survivors with Iron Will aren't emitting any breathing noises, survivors that are in the dying state sometimes make no noise, and there are the sound bugs during Spirit's phasing.
I don't anticipate they will change Iron Will, but there's no reason that scratch marks should not be looked at. I hope they fix that soon.

What about getting rid of being able to unhook yourself unless you're running Deliverance? Just replace the jumping off the hook part of the first phase with skill checks. Slippery Meat could be changed to be able to wiggle out of the killer's grasp much faster.

To be fair, if it is a game where there isn't much I can do, it will end very quickly as gens are flying. So while I cannot Suicide on hook to leave early, I am not going to need to wait THAT long regardless.
That's not always true that the game will end early if the killer is outmatched, especially if the killer isn't that skilled and gets matched with expert survivors. I had a match recently where I was facing a Team Oracle type of SWF. They didn't make any mistakes at loops at all and it was taking me forever to catch anybody. They intentionally avoided completing the last generator in order to force me to stay in the match and continue to bully me. The match ended up taking around 13 minutes when it was actually over in about four. I didn't disconnect because I didn't want to lose my bloodpoints and take a penalty. I wish there was a surrender option where after three generators are done, the killer can just give up and forfeit if they know they are completely outmatched.
