-
today dbd download update 6.4.2, game doesn't work
-
we win, when can play via steam w/o some tweaks, out-of-box. manipulations w/ egs not true.
-
I think we can't play in this year, because update/bugfix patch already released
-
they gave us hope, then they took everything away and are silent. dbd still won't start.
-
few minutes ago dbd download some update, but online doesn't work 🤬

sounds to me like your CPU may be the bottleneck here. a 1080 Ti should keep the game running at the 62 FPS cap on either OS when paired with a decent CPU from the past 5 years. even my old Ryzen 1600 (non X) kept my old RX 570 close to cap (which should be substantially slower than a 1080 Ti)
maybe u right, but for upgrade cpu I need upgrade motherboard and ram...
but under win 8 dbd run perfectly and cpu not loaded at 100%

debian is usually pretty outdated. not sure which version you're running tho.
i only get the initial shader compilation stutter. everything after that is smooth as butter and better than win 10 for me. i'm on EndeavourOS, an arch-based distro.

I never used Debian, because I swapped to rolling release which is bleeding edge since starting on non-bleeding edge distros. Gaming is far better on bleeding edge for me due to updates to graphics. I'm on openSUSE tumbleweed, previously on Fedora. Gaming on both of those was far better than on ZorinOS (non-bleeding edge distro). I never had any stability issues and genuinely don't get why people hate rolling release distros. The sole issues I had was on betas of non-rolling release distros. Oh, and as much as I love the idea of Wayland, it works worse for me than X11. Oh, and always remember to swap to window (borderless or not). One thing which never works too well for me is fullscreen, but I'm decently sure it's not too good on Windows too from what I remember. Depending on level of experience, I'd recommend ZorinOS for complete Linux noobs (Installed it for my aunt who still had Vista whose laptop could never take on modern Windows, but ran smoothly under Linux), Fedora for non-complete noobs and I'd say openSUSE is fine for medium experience. I tried arch VERY briefly, but I'd say don't touch until very experienced. I judge based on your level of knowledge needed to have stuff working. Essentially, it's a scale of how much things will get easily/auto installed and how much you need to install. Arch expects you to install all on your own so if you don't know what you need, you won't know what you're missing to have stuff running. Probably SteamOS 3.0 for PC will have official release by the time they re-enable DBD Steam support and I imagine it will be set up so you don't need to know anything about arch to game.
i"m using debian sid, it's similary as rolling release.
2nd distro for me - opensuse, but few weeks ago I can't install thumbleweed + gnome + nvidia propietary and I'm return to debian sid.
idk about window mode for game, I want try it, but dbd doesn't work at this time %)

Windows 10 and 11. Linux version ran better than both for me. Noticeably smoother. But Linux in general has less overhead than Windows does.
for reference my system is a 2700x, 32gb ram, 2060. So low end ish. Not a gaming beast but decent enough. Solid 120 fps after unlocking.
hmmm, I never try win 10 and 11, but on win 8 dbd runs better than debian for me. under win8 i have stable 60fps, under linux i have some fps drops

Windows is a considerably worse OS on mid to lower specs PCs (high specs users usually won't even notice, because framerate is irrelevant because most people don't even have screens which can display it). Most people who use Linux are tired of Windows essentially forcing planned obsolence onto absolutely functional hardware through being really badly designed. Many games are proven to run better on Linux via Proton (i.e. Nier). I don't play old games either, I play new games or games up to ~2 years old (unless continously updated MP). All people I know who are gamers who moved to Linux give performance as the reason for the move.
I talk about dbd, but not about linux vs win (cmon, i'm linux user too)
check my post on this page, i'm said about dbd performance on linux and win {7,8}
well, I does't see games with better performance under linux (native or proton), instead win
-
dbd on linux run better than windows? what windows u try? win 7?
-
guys, someone have performance issue under linux? when I try win7, i have fps drops: random and always after gen repaired (10fps at 10-20 secs). on win8 dbd run perfectly w/o issues. under linux I have some fps drops, but not as under win7 (30-40 fps at few secs).
p.s.: in tutorial I doesn't have issues, I talk about online lobby
cpu amd-fx 8350, gpu nvidia 1080ti (propietery driver), debian sid w/ gnome
-
pretty good joob so far..
-
hmmm, why we can play one day? sadly

Note that in order to prevent actual cheating, EAC is just a band aid, not more. It's like putting steel bars on your door to prevent burglars from intruding your home, but leaving the windows untouched.
EAC has no notion or idea what cheating means in DBDs context. Remember that EAC is used to "protect" all sort of games. The thing which EAC does is trying to prevent other applications to access DBDs process space and modifying variables. It probably also has some sort of integrity protection which tries to detect when the DBDs executables (or itself) are modified.
However, it does not check whether some survivor's DBD client reports "Hey, I've hooked a survivor, although I am not even the killer". That has to be done by behavior on their servers.
Theoretically, one does not even need to modify the DBD executables when one reverse engineers how the communication between the server and client works. With this method, nobody needs to crack EAC at all.
Worst of all, EAC is guaranteed to be able to be circumvented. Since it only runs on your computer, over which you have the full control over, it is possible to patch all integrity checks (and all checks for that matter) of EAC completely out and do whatever you want. Of course this is not easy, but it is possible. From behaviors point of view, any player's computer should not be trusted - that's crucial! However, in the current state of the game, the server seems to simply believe everything the client tells them, which is really sad. Some things are easy for the server to check, e.g. the aforementioned "a survivor hooks a killer". Wallhacks in contrast, are essentially impossible to detect server-side, since all the player's positions has to be made known to all players at some point. But many flashy things we are seeing in DBD's cheating scene right now should not be possible if there are any checks in place (on the server!) at all.
Checking on behaviors servers has the advantage that the servers are fully controlled by behavior. Anything the server prevents from being done cannot be done. Proper checking on the server is the key to prevent most of cheating - and it's the only way. Anything on the player's computer can be bypassed in some way - not on the server (unless the server itself gets hacked).
So, updating EAC is nice, but will not help at all against this massive influx of cheating. Because for this to change, behavior has to work on this part of their code. EAC doesn't help at all with this.
of course, u right, but we talk about support linux. linux != more cheaters

Let’s be totally honest here. It’s not like they would update their anticheat to support linux when they can’t even update their anticheat to block blatant cheating from the game. Have you seen content creators lately? Everyone’s harassed by cheaters and I don’t even start with the IP leak problems.
we can't talk about steam deck, before bhvr can update eac and sdk for win

Wine Is Not an Emulator :)
Games running on Proton are native Linux games. You can think of proton as a Linux implementation of the Windows SDK (Wine) and DirectX SDK implementation (dxvk, vkd3d).
This is why the Linux community has mostly embraced Proton, because it’s essentially an open-source implementation of closed-source SDKs
Wine Is Not an Emulator... but not native :) via wine/proton u run win build. proton cant get performance as in win, but can get some bugs

Really? I was halfway considering doing that. Damn.
Anyways, you can play it on Stadia, which has cross-progression with Steam. I have 153/202 achievements on Stadia now, and counting... but it sure would be nice to be able to play the Steam version.
There's also GeForce Now, but the input lag is atrocious compared to Stadia (just for DBD; not necessarily for every game).
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3172412#Comment_3172412
Probably because they had a meeting, and whoever's in charge laughed at the idea that Linux desktop support was important and then decided that DBD wouldn't be enabled for Proton at all until they had it working with various drivers for Steam Deck and then got the official Steam Deck seal of approval from Valve.

Yeah, I deleted my Windows partition a year ago when Proton support was announced. Still waiting.
It's weird that the only game I really play is the only one that's holding out so hard against supporting Linux. Literally every other game works flawlessly.
Ah, well. Windows is finally dead.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3180046#Comment_3180046
Proton is both a blessing and a curse.
Yes, it's taken the Linux gaming scene mainstream in a way nobody would have believed possible even a decade ago, but native builds are still preferable. They perform better. I get better performance on a lot of games on Linux even with Proton, but my computer can run games it really shouldn't even be able to run when they're native binaries.
of course, native builds better than emulator, but we talk about steam games. all "native" builds = it's win build under emulator (dx to gl translator, etc). i doesn't see difference in performance in native game build or emulator. proton is easy way to support linux, instead building some native version

after today bugfix i new error:

Hi there! I'm new to the forum community, I recently purchased the game for 2 of my friends but unfortunately they could not run the game. One is using the Steam Deck and the other is using Linux. I understand this is being worked on but I would like to express additional interest in having this running on Proton! Please and thank you devs, love your game!
I think bhvr may not add proton support, because linux/deck users buy game w/o it😄

@Mitornimo said:
I just don't understand. There must be a way to make it work? Like fall guys works?... is it literally just a switch they flick to make it work on linux? how can EAC work for a game like fall guys, but fail for DBD
bhvr can manually add proton support
-
cheaters it not reason about proton supporting. eac = protect from cheat on all OS
-
no changes w/ last update, dbd doesn't work

Agreed, not really an issue with the community manager, you can only work with what you're given. But from our side, there's only so long you can "watch this space" for. I appreciate that it's not "just pressing a button", but the lack of communication certainly seems to indicate there's not much priority being given to it.
eac.so added. one step to proton maked

VHS use EAC_EOS, what is this?

when we wait DBD, we can play VHS, without tbag 😀

bump! last few years I play only dbd. for play dbd (only) I need install win7 in dualboot. with every update I have more compatibility bugs w/ dbd and now dbd unplayable for me (not responding at start, I make 5-15 retries; fps drop to 10 when some gen fixed). cmon BHVR!
I donate (purchace skins) when dbd coming on linux

BHVR, make last step for support linux, pls
