So right now actually I can 'start' up the game and claim rewards, spend bloodpoints on GE .43. I'm running Kubuntu.
Everyone can do that and is able to do so for a while now. This isn't playing, this topic is only about being able to get into a match which is true playing.

That's great to hear! No rush, of course. Maybe in the future making a BHVR account would auto make forum account or they'd be one?

I thought it would launch, because, unlike the vast majority of time, it loaded nearly completely. Alas, still doesn't launch.
I tried on GE .42, GE .43 and on Experimental. GE kicks me out immediately, Experimental loads nearly entirely, but then crashes. I wonder if there's a compatibility layer which would load the game completely. I wonder if using something like cafe used by bottles could work.

1 more day of daily rewards with shards and I'll be able to buy Vittorio to use the shirtless version I bought so I cannot use the content. Grand. Maybe eventually they'll do an Epic Games Store free weekend so I can play the game I paid for.

Can confirm, account merge does work. It doesn't give you a free copy of DBD on EGS though. I hope this is not some insidious ploy to get Linux DBD players to buy DBD again... That'd be ######### up.

Step by step:
- Get DBD from the Epic Games Store -- which is free btw
- Download Heroic Launcher and attach it to your EGS account so it will see that version of DBD
- Go into Steam and make sure Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime is installed. You can find it in your Library if you change the view-mode from "Games" to "Tools" -- It's between the search bar and the home button on the left side of the steam UI
- Right click Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime and go to Manage => Browse Local Files and either take note of the path to this folder, or move up one folder and copy the entire folder somewhere easy to remember.
- In Heroic Launcher click the gear icon to go to settings on DBD. Make sure some version of Proton is selected as the "Wine Version", people have said basically any version of experimental or GE works. You can easily download different versions of wine inside Heroic if you need to in the "Wine Manager" section of the menu on the left side. Make sure "EasyAntiCheat Runtime" is DISABLED. Scroll down a bit, make sure "Use Steam Runtime" is DISABLED. Under "Environment Variables" add the following in the first box PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME and in the second box put the path to the Steam Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime from the previous step.
That's it. Launch the game and you should be able to play multiplayer. There is currently no way to link your Steam account to your EGS account, so if EGS is not your primary way of playing then you're starting at level 1 with nothing.

*Got 25k for logging in today.* Still got the error, sadly. I also followed another poster's suggestion and unlocked Vittorio's shirtless "shirt" despite not yet owning him, since I had the 495 premium currency lying around anyway and only ~8k iri.

Well, you can ask them. I'm not sure if I can post links here, but the reddit post is titled "Dead By Daylight on Windows?" and was posted 10pm ago on the reddit r/SteamDeck.
Two of them claim to be able to play the game without any problems on Steam OS
I responded to the comment of the person asking them if they could post further information for other people to repro to play.
If anyone sees people speaking of being able to play matches on Linux, I don't understand why you don't speak to them yourself and come to post here instead. If you want to play the game, you need to be a tiny bit more proactive. It costs you nothing and I find it bizzare that you can you in the effort to mention it here, but cannot ask the person who possibly holds the actual solution directly, lol. We all want to play the game and since BHVR doesn't seem too interested in collecting our money, possibly the only way might be speaking to people who say it works for them and dissecting their game files.

Can the person post any video proof and how their files look like? This is how I installed my OS (fresh install, then I install Steam stuff, i.e. Proton EAC first and much later I installed DBD) and it's never worked.

2nd distro for me - opensuse, but few weeks ago I can't install thumbleweed + gnome + nvidia propietary and I'm return to debian sid.

You know what's most painful about no DBD access? I'm 1,2~ iri away from buying Vittorio and have enough premium currency in to buy the shirtless option. They're just afraid of me running around half-naked in all my Linux glory. :"(

hmmm, I never try win 10 and 11, but on win 8 dbd runs better than debian for me. under win8 i have stable 60fps, under linux i have some fps drops
I never used Debian, because I swapped to rolling release which is bleeding edge since starting on non-bleeding edge distros. Gaming is far better on bleeding edge for me due to updates to graphics. I'm on openSUSE tumbleweed, previously on Fedora. Gaming on both of those was far better than on ZorinOS (non-bleeding edge distro). I never had any stability issues and genuinely don't get why people hate rolling release distros. The sole issues I had was on betas of non-rolling release distros. Oh, and as much as I love the idea of Wayland, it works worse for me than X11. Oh, and always remember to swap to window (borderless or not). One thing which never works too well for me is fullscreen, but I'm decently sure it's not too good on Windows too from what I remember. Depending on level of experience, I'd recommend ZorinOS for complete Linux noobs (Installed it for my aunt who still had Vista whose laptop could never take on modern Windows, but ran smoothly under Linux), Fedora for non-complete noobs and I'd say openSUSE is fine for medium experience. I tried arch VERY briefly, but I'd say don't touch until very experienced. I judge based on your level of knowledge needed to have stuff working. Essentially, it's a scale of how much things will get easily/auto installed and how much you need to install. Arch expects you to install all on your own so if you don't know what you need, you won't know what you're missing to have stuff running. Probably SteamOS 3.0 for PC will have official release by the time they re-enable DBD Steam support and I imagine it will be set up so you don't need to know anything about arch to game.

Windows is a considerably worse OS on mid to lower specs PCs (high specs users usually won't even notice, because framerate is irrelevant because most people don't even have screens which can display it). Most people who use Linux are tired of Windows essentially forcing planned obsolence onto absolutely functional hardware through being really badly designed. Many games are proven to run better on Linux via Proton (i.e. Nier). I don't play old games either, I play new games or games up to ~2 years old (unless continously updated MP). All people I know who are gamers who moved to Linux give performance as the reason for the move.

They also purposefully disabled Linux/SteamDeck users from accessing the game after we've been able to and have the absolute audacity not to even refer to whatever the ######### that was. In 2021, they had over 900 employees. This is not an indie studio not managing, this is a big time disaster with below zero respect for people who fund the mess they are. I'm livid. It's no longer "we don't know how to make it work", it became "we know how to make it work and it worked, but once we found out people know it works, we made sure it no longer does". Them using the exact same response multitude of times, the sudden disabiling of access for us which WORKED, but they chose to make it otherwise... It really saddens me that this is considered an acceptable course of action for professionals in a company with over 900 empoloyees.

Not gonna lie, I'm very disappointed. I came back from my surgery and first saw the information about it working. Launched a match, error 500. And here I hoped I could recover by daylight. :(

This isn't a great report, sadly. Not enough info. What precisely did he do? Did he successfully play a full online match? It's very vague.
Sadly nothing I've tried so far has resulted in success. I feel like we should be right there. We're on the cusp.
I found him on Steam and sent an invite to ask questions. Sadly, I'm going on a sudden travel due to personal emergency and won't be back till Sunday. I hope a solution can be found by then. I really feel like my ability to deal with life's woes would improve if I could run around fixing gens.

I actually managed to install -tkg proton, but I got this lovely message:
I tried with proton-ge and the loading screen loaded in fully (without GE it would not load in fully), but since I've been stuck on it for a while and then got kicked out with error 500.

Someone claims it runs on Steam. I tried with Proton experimental, but it didn't work. I'm not on Arch and don't know how to get -TKG, but maybe someone is more tech savy than me and can try. I only added EAC folder to binaries, didn't do any other tinkering, maybe I'm missing something.

Can confirm, the game loads up and you can do everything except playing a match.
The tutorial works fine with impeccable performance.
In the next patch we will be able to play against survivor bots, since no EAC is required.

Me too! I was so happy to be finally able to access the stuff I paid for! Last time I played there was no option to set up multiple outfits so I prepared 1-3 outfits of choice for the characters for when they enable matchmaking. I feel like this outcome means it's near. I wish they considered a temporary option of matchmaking us only vs each other. Hell, even make a no-EAC matchmaking. I'd happily play vs potential cheaters if it meant I could play at all.
