Freddy just has a super low skill floor. Some basic m1 killer knowledge and a handful of perks are all you need, and his style becomes: SPAM SNARES SPAM SNARES SPAM SNARES teleport SPAM SNARES! This will get you through most games just as well as the survivor meta. Which also means he's super common to vs and everyone nitpicks what they don't like about him because they are oberexposed. (I once saw a whole thread about how OP his dream world is even without snares. Really?)

So then the solution is to grow the killer base. I think a SWF toggle is the answer. Newbies can go for all solos. Perks like third seal would have guaranteed reliability. And killers choosing to verse SWF get a worthwhile bonus and suffer DC penalties for leaving lobbies, but at least know what they’re getting into.
I don't quite think you understand how few people want to Vs SWF teams/how many people play SWF. A SWF toggle would kill the game, hands down, because for most people double bloodpoints is just not enough (and you can't really give much more than that without ruining the games economy). If most killers are playing in no-swf ques, swf will die and with it the game.
Like it or not, swf is a huge draw for the game (and yeah, a lot of absolute pricks abuse it and the Devs are too scared to stop them because of the negative impact on those who dont). When I play at peak times, almost every team I Vs as killer has at least a 2-person, if not 3-4. (Either that, or my fellow solo's have wallhacks and get super co-ordinated for morons that can barely loop). If they all left, I shudder to think about the playerbase.

Most people don't like mori's because it DOESNT make the game more intense. The outcome is practically unchangeable, so the whirlwind of fun chaos where anything could happen gets completely drained by the dark grey quagmire of resigned inevitability. There's nothing intense about a game that is literally unwinnable, you're just slogging through it and onto the next match. Ebony or Ivory, it's game over. And that's not even taking into account the usual down-hook-softcamp-tunnel-mori strategy.
Unless you severely outclass the killer, but that's an awful feeling for a completely different reason.
-
It's not the playerbase that's small, it's the ratio that's skewed. And, in an asymetrical game, THAT is the problem. Other games can shoehorn in game modes because each team has an equal number of players, but because most people DONT want to play killer, adding a second game mode, yes-to-SWF mode, or competitive (lol, #########?) que would fracture that already tiny portion of the playerbase and most would just end up in 1 que, thus absolutely screwing over survivor que times even more (it likely wouldn't change killer ques at all, though). And that's not even taking into account the effect the anti-lowrank-bully-swf-que-change had on the game overall.
-
Something super gimmicky, like an Ignore-The-Obsession build (PWYF, STBFL, Dark Devotion, Rancor)

I don't think that would change much. If we're assuming that the people who previously DC'd are instead dying on the hook, they would have given up their bloodpoints when they DC'd anyway. If that didn't stop them before, that wouldn't stop them now.
But even assuming it did discourage them, what would stop them from running straight at the killer to go down again, or walking away from their computer and coming back when they're dead?
But wouldn't it change the game a huge amount? The post wasn't referring to their match BP, but to their overall account BP. So suicides would never, ever have BP and literally be forced to keep playing just so they can get perks/add-ons. I don't know if it's the good solution for the health of the game, but surely it would reduce the amount of suicides considerably. Especially if their account could drop into negative numbers.

You got more points than all the survivors. Why you complaining? I bet you pipped too
You mathematically cannot pip if everyone escapes, not at purple/red ranks. You just won't have enough pip points. Your Gatekeeper will be too low, as will your Devout. (Some killers, like Pig, have abilities that get extra Gatekeeper points but in general you have to have 1 gen unpopped to get gold Gatekeeper at purple/red ranks and at least 1 sacrifice with 9 hooks to get gold Devout).
-
I know I'm going to sound like a dick saying this, but maybe don't play top-tier killers unless you are extremely good at them. Most decent survivors see Spirit/Nurse/Billy/Freddy/Huntress/Deathslinger and immediately go into super-serious mode. It's pretty stupid, but that is what happens. Survivors will be a lot more cocky around 'weaker' killers, which can super backfire. Especially if the killer isn't actually weak when played well, like Hag, Ghostface or Plague.
Or you could just practise one or two killers and get really, really good at them. Learn their nuances, learn their add-ons, and rember that you are going to lose a lot of games simply because you got outperked, outmapped or outgenned. It's inevitable and literally nothing can be done, but at the same time it's also non-reflective of your skill if you get wiped by a decent team on Ormond (or whatever example you want to use). Maybe give yourself a primary goal to work towards in each match that is always achievable, like getting 4 BBQ stacks.

This thread is kinda weird:
"Mclean was wrong"
"it should do what he claimed"
I mean this is either or, either he was wrong OR it should do what he claimed, but the former is the correct answer, he was wrong, reslience does not affect everything and this is by design.
What? How are those mutually exclusive in any way? Because it is not wierd to say that someone's claim was incorrect but should, in fact, be correct.

Resiliance is pretty solid, but it could literally increase every interaction and it wouldn't be too much of a buff. I do think it's so it's not more powerful against some killers than others, though.

Holy [BAD WORD], what the [BAD WORD] did he do to you and how can I make it better?
Edit: Don't [BAD WORD] 'bad word' me you [BAD WORD] censoring [BAD WORD] [BAD WORD] of [BADWORD].

Not for the person you are going out of your way to be an arsehole to. And honestly, that kinda makes it not fun. If you enjoy hurting people maybe you are a problem.

Look, if someone posts about how killer sided the game is then I really hope it's bait. Sure, solo que sucks. We all know that. But having ######### teammates doesn't make killers overpowered. So if someone genuinely goes on a rant about how OP killers in general are, or how EASY they are (even Freddy is harder than survivor, come on. Do a gen, a totem, an unhook, a heal and a chase and BAM, you got a pip!) then yeah, I really hope it's bait.
That cuts both ways, idiotic killers posting about 100 escapes in a row thinking base gen speeds need nerfed. Uh, no? 80 seconds on a gen is almost unplayable, although 48 seconds is a bit too quick (yeah, yeah, it's currently 44, but the patch is like, 2 weeks away?). Solo que survivor is brain-dead easy to pip (unfortunately, still the games win condition) but it really is completely out of your hands if you want to escape. Not to mention the complete powerlessness of getting facecamped/hard-tunelling.
TLDR: everyone's a moron, me included. When someone says something outrageous it doesn't make them right. But sometimes people dont think about their own ideas before they post them and so they get lumped as bait.
Edit: I forgot keys and mori's! Yeah, they don't count, they are straight BS. No ######### the game's going to be [BLANK] sided when someone brings an [INSERT BS ITEM/OFFERING HERE]. That's not the base game, though. That's extra stuff that is DESIGNED to drastically shift the balance of power WAY too much.
-
A lot of it is straight hypocrisy. Like, honest-to-gods moronic bullshit. ScottJund has a video showing this streamer constantly calling him out for 'camping' and 'tunelling' and then ACTUALLY FACECAMPED WHILE HE WAS PLAYING KILLER. It really seems that a lot of the toxicity, but not all, are people like that that just have no empathy and think hypocrisy is something that applies to other people.

Favourite build at the moment?
Alert (Actually pretty good info perk)
Kindred (THE info perk)
Urban Evasion (For that stealth)
Sprint Burst (I screwed up the stealth)
Seriously, I love Alert. So, so much. You can not only see the killer, you can find generators and player-created-deadzones all from the comfort of your own gen. And then have the warm fuzzy feeling ripped away when you see what your team is doing on Kindred.
And then the standard UE/SB combo. What can I say, I like stealth play as well as chases. At least I refuse to touch blendette/blend... Blendadam?

I would enjoy watching a killer kill themselves. 😂 But I assume this is not a thing because it would be somewhat frequent anytime someone was losing, or encountered game play they didnt like, to get out and get to the next match. A survivor team can survive without someone who suicided because there are 3 other people and the match can continue. A match cannot continue without a killer.
If the survivors won after a suicide, either the match was at (essentially) 1 gen or the killer farmed. I do understand the reasoning, I just don't quite think it's applicable for most matches.
Still, I've heard the Devs are experimenting with bots. Maybe if they become a thing we can have silly self-mori's. The game could still progress. Sort of. Kinda the same way it does when a survivor kills themselves.

DC punishment isnt BS, it's when your getting punished for not actually DCing yourself that the BS
Do you mean game crashes? Because there's no way to differentiate between someone's game legitimately crashing and them manually closing it. Or disconnecting from the internet. It sucks, but if you only added the DC penalty for actually clicking the 'leave match' button then they would just... Well, close the game or disconnect their internet.
Or apparently suicide on hook. Still waiting for the killer to be allowed to beat themselves to death in a locker door.

It's called "The Survivors Rulebook For Killer, Complete Edition."

That is an idea that the community has throw around for years, and yeah it's totally a better one that the current iteration. It is insane that there are non-information perks in this game that you can activate without ever touching your keyboard/controller.

Kick the pallet.
Lol, remember when people said that unironically? Those were the days
-
Like it or not, there needs to be a way to brute force a down. Bloodlust is that way, alongside window blocks. I definitely think bloodlust needs looked at, but as a general rule if survivors can mindlessly run a killer (camping pallets) killers need a way to mindlessly chase (bloodlust and vault blocking). Neither of these are going to be particularly effective stratagies moving forward, but they both serve a purpose.
-
The problem isn't so much these 'unwritten rules' as it is the sheer frustration this game almost deliberately fosters. Survivors have so many second chance perks it's not funny, I cannot count the number of rank 1 teams I have come across that fail their way into my arms only to be ripped out by yet another uncounterable second chance perk. Screwed up a loop? DH for distance. Got too altruistic? Locker DS. Couldn't find a locker? DS/Unbreakable. Got a good snowball? Unbreakable. Another good snowball? Second Unbreakable.
Then you go play survivor and it's full of hard-tunelling killers because, hey, that's the only rewarded strat in the whole game. People like to pretend that's not the case because a good survivor can run the killer around, but what happens when the killer knows to go after the weak link? All you can do is watch your teammate die. If you try and help, the few seconds you buy just aren't worth the gen time you gave up. Or, and this is even better, someone gets facecamped to death, everyone else pops the gens, and NOED. 'Sure, do bones noob', well how about we not have such a ridiculous perk that pops if you go stand in a corner the entire match and do absolutely nothing? Doing dulls in solo que is almost impossible, anyway. Not even joking, you get 4/5 and you just wasted 2 minutes. NOED is like a survivor perk.
And so, with great reference to the enjoyment of all, people ask each other not to do these things so maybe games cam be actually fun for anyone that isn't a complete, empathy-devoid psycho. Because like it or not, this isn't a single player experience. You want to roleplay as an arsehole, you're just BEING an arsehole to someone actually real on the other end.
-
Yeah, it's super okay for survivors to keep their practically-limitless medkit, blacklock-finder map, and bloodamber skeleton key.
-
That is, unfortunately, just the nature of the game right now. A few months back the Devs changed Survive With Friends matchmaking so only the highest-ranked player would be taken into account (because people were having low-rank friends join so they could bully low-rank survivors). Then they just did a bunch of stuff that culminated in a huge amount of people just not playing killer any more and now it takes ages to find a match as survivor (in peak times) and the killer is almost always green/purple/yellow rank.
Also, I picked up the game back when Ghostface came out, so I understand your pain as a new player. You literally have to train yourself to learn a bunch of tiles, a couple dozen maps, and an insane number of perks and perk synergies. Sometimes I wish killer had as much HUD info as survivor just so new people don't have to memorise so much, especially in the role thats already naturally harder.
-
I have to say don't ever, EVER play killer, on pc, with a controller. You will lose. It's just the nature of dedicated server movement, even the enhanced sensitivity in the upcoming patch will not be enough to track those stimulant-addicted survivor models. I also love controller, I have also tried pc controller a lot, and I have curled into a ball and wept as my basic attacks somehow get 360'd. Not lunges. Basic attacks.
-
It's just the game. They had a bunch of ridiculous items and perks, so the correct response would have been something along the lines of Spirit with the purple amulet and Mother/Daughter Ring. Or Iri Head/Infantry Huntress. That being said, I'm not happy that any of these things are in the game.
Although in both of those situations some actual skill is required to play the killer, whereas survivors can literally have 4 1-use second-chance perks that just no-brain activate after camping pallets every chase. In fact, I believe such builds are the current meta (substituting one of the second chance perks for... Well, usually a certain repeatable second chance perk.)
-
Either this is amazing bait, in which case well done, or a complete idiot that doesn't realise they are literally everything about killers that people hate.
-
Kindred.
I also like Alert and Bond, but Kindred is the overlord of solo survivor perks. It tells you about the general behaviour of your teammates, the killer, if you should go for a save, if anyone should come save you... And I also remember that an escape is not a victory, and getting sacrificed is not a loss. If you pulled your weight and pipped, congrats.
-
If you need to throw a pallet, throw a pallet. Don't camp pallets and everyone's grand. And if someone sandbags you for 'wasting' a good pallet, guess what? It was going to happen any way, toxic people always have an excuse to be toxic. I had a whole team sandbag me because I messed up a flashlight save. Another because I was killer in their last game. I certainly know my looping skills are going to have to improve, so I'm also going to be getting more post-game salt from my 'teammates'. Bonus points if they're running full meta builds.
-
Just to clarify, did you check perks/addons? There's plenty that give specific scenario wallhacks. If you're sure, you do need to at least take a screenshot of the postgame screen (the Devs said they cannot listen to reports without any evidence, I think an post-game screen specifically showing a build without Aura reading applies)
-
I don't think clowns rework (and I hope beyond hope it's coming) is anywhere in the near future for the simple fact that a lot of strong maps are getting reworked. Clown has a very specific anti-loop power whose power depends on both the strength of the loop and the tiles it is next to. Because normally survivors can just drop pallets, clown is weak. If strong pallets become a more precious resource because they don't get chained together, clown gets a little stronger. Don't get me wrong, I still think he's super weak, but it's a tricky situation because killer powers have to take into account map design.
