Until this thread I had absolutely no idea Insidious does not make you invisible. All other perks and addons which affect terror radius explicitly say they affect the terror radius. Insidious says it makes the killer undetectable. To me (as someone with a degree in English) this means the killer is invisible AND has no terror radius AND has no aura AND has no red stain.
Now, from this thread, I know this perk only removes the terror radius and red stain.
In my humble but sincere opinion, the description of the perk should be corrected to say it removes the terror radius and red stain when the killer stands still. It should not use the word undetectable as the killer is detectable plain as day to anybody looking her way.

I think not knowing who or what the killer is adds fun to the game. The suspense is part of the drama.
Thus my answer of "no" to seeing the killer is not based on mechanics but on gameplay fun.

Ok so do you consider yourself a good survivor? And do you have a squad available?
Oh, hi, sorry I thought we were done with the conversation and each agreed to disagree :) Your question is a non sequitur as it has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, but no, I consider myself a horrible survivor, haha. I'm legally blind for one thing, literally.
However, I do periodically help a friend of mine practice various killers. One of the killers I helped my friend perfect was the nurse. I would play sole survivor, and she'd practice hitting me while I tried to evade.
There are people in this thread who think the way to play against the nurse is the same as they'd play against other killers. This is a false belief.
The nurse, for one thing, telegraphs her attacks. When you're running from her, you need to watch her, and once she blinks you need to dodge away. Ideally you fake a direction right before she blinks and then dodge the other way. She'll still get you a fair amount of time if she's run by a good player (such as my friend), but she's not overpowered.
For the other thing, you can hear her when she's invisible. If you didn't see her vanish but have headphones you know when she's near and where.
My belief that the nurse is not overpowered is from personal experience and has nothing to do with whether I'm a good survivor. As I said, I'm a horrible survivor. But I'm observant and intelligent and adaptive.
Also I will remind the readers that the statistics do tell the whole story. Even in the red ranks (among the statistically best players) the nurse has the worst success rate.
Shrugs But I'm okay that we disagree. We're all individuals and free to draw our own conclusions.
Be well :)

So with your logic all these top tier tournament teams are full of "bad players" because they lose to nurse? The nurse is the only killer that can ignore all of your safety and instantly clap you up, the reason the nurse doesn't have a high kill or pick rate is because she's hard to master and people get bullied so much when they try her out that they give her up all together and pick an easier killer to learn , I've played nurse for years and I can't remember the last time I actually lost a match with her its been quite a while , I started playing oni and the twins more recently just to switch things up and because not alot of people play as twins and I'm sure people would enjoy the game.
Hi, The_Krapper. We do not disagree on the premises. We disagree on the conclusions.
If a team of survivors can beat all types of killers except nurse, that is a weakness on the team and not the killer character.
Likewise, if a nurse player beats everyone, that is the credit of the player and not the nurse.
The nurse does not break rules. She is her own style with her own strengths and weaknesses.
Across the board the nurse is the weakest killer, proven by statistics. One cannot take specific examples to refute a generalization. That is an informal fallacy of logic.
Again, we do not disagree on the premises. But I contend the premises do not indicate the conclusion you think they indicate.

You're right. The fact that nurse can ignore every rule of the game makes her the best killer. Not the player 😂
Laughs What rules? People have a misunderstanding of the rules of the game if one of the killers created by the developers is breaking them.
I appreciate the fun comment, however :) Thanks.

I'll gladly comment because you picked mine 😂😂😂. No. The statistics BHVR pukes out for us are NOT telling of nurses strength. The statistics prove that nurse is hard to use. Not her strength as a killer. That's why the consensus is she's THE BEST killer. And why she's one of two killers who the population says can deal with death squads. Nor do you seem to understand what a death squad is. What YOU are referring to are typical SWF. When someone says death squad. They mean SWF + being the BEST survivors in game. Or tournament squads if you want.
If you try to say nurse is a bad killer. And tell them that the low kill rate statistics are there to back you up. You're going to get laughed at by almost everyone.
Hi, BrokenSoul. I hope you're well. It's true one of your comments was part of what I addressed, but you're overlooking the whole of my contentions. Some posters here, including you, are giving anecdotal evidence to argue a bigger picture.
I will use real life history as a concrete correlative. Have you heard of Miyamoto Musashi, a very famous samurai from around year 1600. He is known to have fought around 70 real duels and much more, but often, including in duels, he used a wooden sword against his opponents who were using real swords.
By the rules of this thread as many would have us believe them, that would make the wooden sword the best weapon in the game.
What my point is that it does not make the wooden sword the best weapon. It makes Miyomoto Musashi the best swordsman.
Likewise, if someone dominates with a Nurse, it does not make the Nurse character the strongest killer. It makes the player the strongest player.
Look, seriously I have no interest in persuading you and others who so firmly believe in your anecdotal evidence. I'm fine with that and hope you are all happy, honestly. I simply was inclined to join the conversation, and now I've said my piece, and you've said your piece, and all is well :)

ArcticGirl36 is correct. There are a few fallacies brought up by others in this thread on which I'd like to comment. I won't use poster names as who said the fallacies is not important.
One: Statistics on kills do not tell the whole story, even though nurse is extremely difficult to use.
Answer: They do actually tell the whole story because somebody who can get very good at nurse can actually get better at the stronger killers if they wanted. In fact, many of the best nurses who are used as examples of nurse strength played the game for thousands of hours, and the only thing one can infer from such a person playing nurse is they enjoy it. When someone gets so good at this game, it's natural to pick something more challenging to play well. This does not make nurse stronger. It arguably makes nurse more fun at high levels of expertise. But the statistics across all ranks do tell the actual and whole truth
Two: But nurses are strong because they can best defeat groups of survivors using voice communications to let each other know where the killer is.
Answer: This does not mean the nurse is strongest. It means these teams in question are terrible and rely so much on their voice warnings that they become inferior to solo survivors who learn to do well without the assistance of voice and team practice.
Three: But there are so-and-so nurse players who can annihilate anyone they want at will
Answer: Just because a very good killer can use a rolled up newspaper to kill somebody does not make the rolled up newspaper a better weapon than a knife. The rolled up newspaper is far weaker. It may, however, be more fun.

I've been having this problem since last week's patch as well. My girlfriend, who uses a different PC and usually plays from a different city and ISP, has been getting it a lot since the last patch as well.
She played hundreds of hours before the patch without disconnects and now gets a few a day. I played around 80 hours before the patch without DCs and now have had half a dozen. I'd have more but I mostly stopped playing out of frustration for losing all the work, points, addons and offerings.
I've got around 5000 hours of Black Desert Online without disconnects (ten hours today and a nearly few hours a day every day for nearly a year). I've also got hundreds of hours of Red Dead Online without disconnects and a few thousand hours of Grand Theft Auto Online without disconnects.
Every single day I play BDO, RDO and GTAO without issue. Only DbD has this problem, and only since last week's patch.
My girlfriend and I play on Steam, but I also play BDO, RDO and GTAO through Steam. So again, the issue is DbD.

I keep getting kicked out of matches with Error 8,012 and it's frustrating as hell. How are we supposed to grind the impossible rift xp bar when every match is dropping is anyone's guess.
Exactly! And because you're also losing your addons and offerings each time that happens, you not only lose the XP from the current match but the XP you spent in previous matches buying that stuff :( I wish they'd fix their servers :(

I haven’t experienced that as Killer.
You're lucky :) My girlfriend has experienced it many times as killer (different city and ISP) since the latest patch last week, and I've experienced it four times. We also both experienced it as survivors (again, different city and ISP) in the same match.
We play Steam. If you're on console maybe the server bug is related to their Steam code? It's just so frustrating.
-
This friggin' disconnecting by the server when we're playing killer needs to stop. It disconnected me a few hours ago making me lose tons of progress, blood points, xp, addons and my offering when I was close to winning. And just now I decided to try again as killer, and I had my third hooked survivor and was in a chase and got disconnected.
Again the game took my progress, points, addons and offering and even now blocks me from match making even though it's the server's fault.
This game better make up for our time and xp and stuff. 50k consolation prize a day doesn't cut it when it's taking all our progress and stuff from us.
It's a bad server design by the game developers.
-
I agree. I'm very angry at the game over this. I'm so sick of losing all the work, achievements, blood points, addons and offerings just because their server drops.
They have the game data from before the server dropping, so the fact they penalize us for their problem is infuriating.
It's not on our end as it happens at the same time to people in different cities and ISPs even in the same match :(
-
I just had the server disconnect on me as killer when I was doing great and had 5 hooked people and was catching up to a group, and all the work is lost. I've worked all night and day trying to get points to buy a perk off the shop, and I had an achievement goal to hook 5 people in one game, and the friggin' game disconnected again wiping all the work and making it so I won't be able to get the points to buy the perk before it resets.
If they're going to disconnect the game servers from us, I wish they'd store our progress so we can complete the achievements and get the blood points we earned. Giving 50k blood points a day for logging in does not compensate for lost work and running out of time to buy a perk :(
p.s. dang it they even took my offering from me as if I'd spent it. This game can be so good, but it can also be so horrible.
-
You're confusing programming with designing, Wishlcouldmain. I realize you're just trying to insult the developers, but I'll answer your question.
To program a game you have to learn mathematics and how computer memory and hardware works, and then you need to learn one or more low level computer programming languages.
Once you've learned all that you can learn to design things, but you must learn them all if you wish to be a good programmer and then a good designer.
This said, I don't believe for a second you wish to learn to program games nor to design them.

Hi, DDDD. If you know what AFK deranking is, I believe you're exaggerating your lack of knowledge. If you were that new you wouldn't even care about ranks let alone deranking.
This said, I agree there are some killers or perks which need a lot of practice. For instance, I am good friends with a Demogorgon killer who was having a ton of issues hitting with the lunge attack. So I bought the game mostly so I could be a survivor for her in a custom match so she could practice the attack. This worked tremendously well for her, and getting the chance to chase a zig zaggy survivor (me) for an hour made her an expert at the attack. And in the process I decided I like the game and play it as well.
But not all killers have very difficult attacks to master. For instance, I played doctor for lots and lots of matches without putting points into him. He was level 1 with only one perk (the generator overcharge one), and he is easy to play well enough to have fun. He's got an area attack (non-damaging but increases insanity level), a range attack (non-damaging but increases insanity level), and a swipe. That's enough to have fun without needing to find a friend spending an hour in a custom match for you to test special attacks.
There are a few things about survivor you probably won't learn without talking to other people or reading. For instance, depending on the killer, they may see you easily when you run. Some killers may see you when you heal near them. Crows gather above your head if you stay in a place too long, and there are killers who can see any survivors who disturb crows. But this kind of knowledge doesn't need a custom match. It needs talking and/or reading.
Don't worry about not being able to enter a custom match alone. Just start with stuff which doesn't need a custom match for practice.

They also only see one side of things.
I was just on someone's stream and they were talking about how terrible and dumb we were and their chat was praising the killer to high heaven- no one was trying to win we were just doing challenges and throwing the match for them lol.
I like the mention of doing challenges that sacrifice playing to win. When survivors do challenges to break hooks in the terror radius of the killer, for instance, they surrender emphasizing generators, and they take ridiculous chances they wouldn't normally do.
Along the same lines, though, killers get challenges to hook people in post game collapse or to play very aggressively and to camp hooks if they want to win the challenge.
Survivors get challenges to throw the game, and killers get challenges to be toxic. A lot of bad behavior in the game does stem from challenges.
As for the streamer shrugs I haven't seen him, but it sounds like his play style is the exact opposite of what I consider fun. No biggie either way.

Happened to me, too, roughly around the time of the original post here. I play on PC through Steam. This has been happening quite a bit since yesterday's patch.
-
Yeah it just happened to me for the second time a few minutes ago. It happened last night, too. And it happened to my girlfriend four or five times since the patch. We're in different cities with different ISPs, so it's not our ISPs. It also didn't ever happen to us before yesterday's patch. She played a couple of hundred hours with no disconnects, and I played around 50 with no disconnects.
It's horribly frustrating to be doing well in a game and losing all the work to a server side disconnect.
Earlier tonight we were in a match against a very good killer who was doing great. And suddenly he disconnected. I feel bad for him, and I feel bad for us.
-
The only killer I've played so far is the Doctor, but he's a lot of fun. I like to run around shocking people and turning them insane, even at level 1 with one perk and no addons.
I was in one of those games having a good time zapping everyone, and periodically I hit or hooked them, but I always let them get saved so we could continue.
The puzzle: Eventually they got all the generators done, but they weren't running to the exits. For around ten minutes they kept running around, and I kept zapping and knocking them down and letting them get saved, but they wouldn't exit.
Finally, after forever, one of them opened the exit, and I waved at them. I even carried one of them to the exit, puzzled why they didn't leave sooner.
In after game chat I asked why they didn't leave when the generators were done, but none of them answered. I made a zillion blood points, though (most I'd made to date at the time).
Possible Answer:
Today I was browsing my Steam achievements and I noticed one I earned: "Bring 4 survivors to tier 3 insanity"
I now suspect they couldn't open the exit gate Laughs They were too insane and couldn't perform the action.
-
I supported them by spending another 20 bucks on the game yesterday. This is my feedback to them I have faith they'll continue to have an excellent game.
I do wish they'd have followed the rule to never take away features people might like. If they wanted a new UI, they could have made a configurable one instead of one designed to be good for tiny screens but much worse for large screens (I play on a 50 inch monitor 2 feet from it).
Another issue with the update was it introduced some bugs and server side disconnects, but those can be fixed.
With regard to the topic of this thread, however, I support the dev team. I will continue to give them money.

As a reasonably new player (50ish hours), I play Feng Min because generators don't blow up if she messes up.
I hate, hate, hate, hate (hate hate hate) quick time events. Thus I hate the QTE for generators which blow up if you mess up. Playing Feng Min makes the game playable to me as survivor.
Yes eventually I'll get all Feng Min's perks teachable and try her on another survivor (Kate comes to mind), but out of the box Feng Min is wonderful.
For killer I very much enjoy doctor because he's viable at level 1 with only one perk and no addons. Taking generator overcharge and walking around area shocking people to see if they're near and to make them a little crazy, chasing them and making them crazy, and chasing and chopping them then area blasting to see who's around, all at level 1 with 1 perk, makes the Doctor a viable killer to me.
Eventually I put some levels into him, and he's got more perks now, and that makes him even more joyful to play, but I really, really like that the doctor has non-lethal attacks. I love I can chase and make them crazy without killing them. And his laugh is joyful.
As a survivor I met a wonderful floating ghost like woman with severed limbs. She's super duper cool, but my girlfriend tells me she's one of the hardest to play. So I won't try her until I can do a few custom matches with her to practice the timing of her attacks.
But my favorite killer is definitely doctor because his play style is pure fun.
-
Beats me what the formula is. I played around 15 matches as a level 1 doctor with only one perk and no addons or stuff, and after the first six or so matches each game had at least one rank 4 player and lots of rank 6 or 8 players even though I was rank 20 (am now around rank 18).
In fact, I doubt I've had a single killer match in the last few days where people were my player rank. They're usually 10 or 14 ranks above me.
I've watched around a hundred games of my girlfriend playing killer, and they regularly pit her against rank 2 or 6 when she was 16 or 14.
My best guess then and now is they're having trouble matching players to killers. Even though there are 33 to 45k active players at any given moment, there must be an imbalance of killers to survivors, so they're just trying to fill slots. That's only a guess, but it's what I suspect.

It doesn't have to be big just allow players to move certain stuff and everyone will be happy
Sorry if this is a double post, but my first reply seems to be missing. (Not sure if it's server lag.)
I just want to mention that "allow players to move [UI items] around" is a wonderfully magnificent suggestion.
I play Black Desert Online a lot (every day for ages and am now around 5k hours played). They allow players to customize their UI by moving stuff around. It's a seriously major quality of life feature that doesn't tie your UI to somebody else' idea of good.
I heartily support such a change.

I'm surprised by the confidence you have. If done right anything can be cloned and if it's done to DBD I can promise you that at least 30% of the player base will leave.
Laughs Confidence, huh? Perhaps. But I'd call it respect for a game that's still consistenly #19 after six years (just like GTA which is consistently #5 or #7 after 8 years).
I respect that a lot.
-
I'd like to point out this game, as old as it is, is consistently approximately the 19th most played game on steam even counting single player non-online games. The only games that regularly double this are GTA (but that includes its single player) and Ark Survival Evolved (which also includes single player) and some free to play stuff (which I don't count).
This game is not going to be blown away by something that tries to clone it anymore than GTA is going to be blown away by anything that tries to clone it.
-
I just gave them another 20 or 25 bucks today. Yeah, the new UI makes it harder to get information faster. Yeah I've had four bugged games that cost me work I'd done and items.
But I still appreciate the game, and heck if I want it to fail. No friggin' way.
-
I don't "hate" the new UI. That would be an overreaction.
But because everything is spread out all over the place, it is much harder for me to see information I want.
I play on a 50 inch monitor (4k resolution), and it was much easier to get information when most of the data was close together. Now some stuff is lower left, some left, some upper left, some top...all the way around like a giant wheel.
To me the purpose of a heads up display is to have information easily accessible. Searching all around for each different thing is less accessible than having it together.
-
I watched my girlfriend play as killer (mostly as trapper) for around 120 hours before I bought this game. She got so much toxicity in after game chat it was really demoralizing her. They'd even accuse her of camping in games where she immediately left the hooked survivor and smashed generators and did other stuff. I tried to tell her she was playing appropriately and well, but she was still sad.
Then she started playing the pig. This turned things around. When people tried to pet her snout, she spared them. When people didn't, she killed them. It became a game of interaction and fun rather than a pure competition.
Now she's played several killers and is loving them because she's extending that concept. She spares people a lot, and she has fun, and she gets very little toxicity after match.
I have the game now and have played it around 40 hours so far (both survivor and killer). As survivor I always say good game even if the killer camped me. I know how hard it is on the killer when people are mean to them, and I refuse to be part of that problem. I say gg or I say, "That was fun. Thanks."
My first eight or so killer matches I went so far out of my way to let survivors get unhooked that every few games survivors actually sacrificed themselves for me in the closing game, leaving the exit and waving until they died. Every few games I carry survivors to where they can be saved or exit, and yeah it cuts down on my points, but I still get 15 to 25k points without trying, and I have fun.
To answer the question of what killer you can play to avoid toxic endings? None. If you play to win, they'll be sore losers, and you'll get a lot of insults and be accused of camping and worse whether you did or not. Plus there are challenges which are pretty damned hard for killers to get without camping, so if a killer is doing those challenges and decides to camp, good for them. It's part of the game.
The only way to have "friendly" endings is to play a kind killer. If you don't want to do that, or if that's not fun to you, don't do it. But you'll get the angry endings. And you'll have to either cope with that or suffer in your spirit.
-
Same happened to me. Obviously whoever programmed the Steam patch did it wrongly. I had to verify steam cache to redownload 10 files, as you had to do.
-
Dunno but I can tell you my girlfriend and I were both disconnected today in the same public game, and we're in two different cities with two different ISPs. The killer might have thought we rage disconnected, but we were both doing fine. She was almost done with her third generator, and I'd sabotaged two hooks (my challenge) and was finishing a generator. And we both disconnected.
I'd say any disconnects today very well could be Dead By Daylight server issues and not deliberate by the players.
-
I'm fairly new with maybe 15 survivor matches and 8 killer matches. I don't really care about surviving or sacrificing, though I do care about points as that's the only way to level up. And I hate the quick time events Laughs
Yesterday I played as survivor and got chased a couple of times by the floating killer with wavy hair, awesome scream/laugh and disconnected limbs. I escaped a couple of times, she downed me a couple of times, and hooked me once, though I got rescued. I also freed somebody from a hook and healed them, but mostly I concentrated on generators.
I was working on finishing my third generator and just finished it as the red light of the killer showed up behind me. I noticed then that it was the last generator and all the other survivors were dead. I'd been so fixated on the damned quick time events I didn't notice everyone died Laughs
The killer struck me, then set me down and laughed and chattered at me and clearly wanted me to follow her. So crawling around on the ground I did my best to follow her. Was she trying to get me to a hook? I didn't know, but it was fun, so I followed.
She saw I was nearly dying, so she picked me up and carried me to the exit then stood still to let me struggle free. I dropped to the ground on my feet and immediately started pointing and waving at her in thanks (number 1 and number 2 keys). She cackled and laughed and nodded, so I opened the gate. She stood there cackling and laughing, and I did my best to say thanks and exited. Outside in chat I typed a gracious thank you, but I don't even know if she saw it.
To me, though, it was a wonderful game and to date the most points I'd gotten in any game.
Today I was playing as killer (the doctor) and tried to pay this forward. I did my best to shock and stab people. Sometimes I'm stab them once and move off, sometime I'd drop them to ground, carry them to generator and put them down there to be rescued. Then I came back a bit later and shocked and stabbed everyone, sometimes hooking one but letting him get rescued.
I didn't make it easy for them. I overcharged the generators, I kept them crazy with the shock treatment, and I kept coming back to stab them periodically, but half way through the game I noticed two of the survivors disconnected. Was the madness too much for them? I don't know.
But when I saw there were only two survivors left and two generators to go, I decided to myself I'd under no conditions sacrifice either of them. I overcharged their generator periodically and stabbed them periodically, but I let them heal up and kept giving them time. It was that or slaughter them as there were only two of them and I knew where they were. I was not about to punish them for their team mates disconnecting on them.
At the end I followed them to the exit, scared them a bit but did not interfere with their departure. I spun and nodded bye, and they waved bye back to me.
And that game was by far the most points I'd made so far in Dead By Daylight without even having offerings to boost the points (as I'm playing a level 1 Doctor with only one perk, and I put all his match points into my survivor even if the Doctor earns them).
As I see it, I paid the generosity of yesterday's killer forward, and in doing so I not only had fun, I made the most points to date by just playing the way I wanted without caring about surviving or sacrificing.
