I agree, it feels very "Good Job, you're doin great sweetie" on the level of Mobile games, it's extremely patronizing and distracting. It just hand-holds new players so they don't have to think, DbD is better than this.

If all survivors are at one gate (they see each other) and stay there for 5+s after last one was there (or 15+s if anybody is downed), then I agree.
Otherwise there can be very legitimate reason for survivors to stay in the gate and it's not to "watch me leave".
Auto-penalty of survivor for staying in gate area would be the same (with same reasoning) as if you punish killer for walking over survivor without picking him up.
It very well can be BM. But it can also so happen, that killer needs to look around for other survivors (say trying to flashlight save), trying to actually catch another survivor that is looping the exact same structure where previous survivor fell, or other legitimate reasons…
That is absolutely NOT a fair comparison at all. A more accurate comparison would be a Killer face camping. Sure, there can be some good reasons for them to hang out near the hook, especially in endgame, and they can be toxic about it by spamming attacks or be chill and quiet about it. It doesn't really do much but extend an already for-gone conclusion to a match, other than very niche situations.
But notice how there's built-in gameplay features to prevent the Killer equivalent and nothing to penalize survivors? Would it really be so bad to punish survivors for sitting in the gates, especially if all of them are there and there's absolutely NO reason to not just leave? Does it really affect anything outside of ending an already concluded match a little sooner? -

lmao this never happens. any survs who don't quickly leave after the gate opens are 100% guranteed to be sitting in there to teabag.
sadly, he's correct. I'm not gonna flash hours or years like a badge cause that's just silly, but trust me when I say this isn't coming from a few bad games. Every single game, no matter how I play or how well I'm doing, every single game if any survivors reach the exit gates or hatch, they will be waiting to rub it in and hold their moment of glory as long as they can.
I totally get waiting to see if you need to help your team out, I do that myself. But even if that's what happens, they will then get everyone to the gates and sit there celebrating until you either force them out with demeaningly pointless attacks or just wait out the timer. I can literally count the number of survivors that just take their win and leave on one hand, through years of being an 80-20 killer main. -

if you consider toxic survivors having flashlights annoying being the sole factor as to why flashlights shouldn’t be in the game… you need a serious reality check. toxic clicky survivors following you all game for a flashlight save is a detriment to them, and beneficial to you. those who follow you with flashlights aren’t doing gens, so that’s (considering it was 1 survivor chasing you) 2 survivors not doing gens which is insane pressure on them. plus toxicity is subjective. if survivors being quote unquote “toxic” to you is bothering you, stop playing the game. it’s that simple. you can’t just be like “umm well actually i’ve had bully survivors spam flashlight clicks and blind me all game, so flashlights should be perma-banned”. that’s on you for letting it get to you, not on the rest of the community. people who use flashlights for genuine reasons shouldn’t be punished because a few people are upset that a survivor used a flashlight on them.
and last point of argument i’ll make is, you can’t just have blinding killers behind a paywall. leon and jill are the only other ways of getting blinds (not including event firecrackers, which are limited time btw) so for starters challenges that require blinds are now behind paywalls? that wouldn’t make any sense nor would be fair, and secondly people shouldn’t have to pay to blind in general.
moral of the story, perma-banning flashlights is a terrible suggestion and shouldn’t come into fruition, thank you.
Yeah this is the kind of response I was expecting. Actions that do literally nothing to further the game and serve literally no purpose but trying to antagonize and aggitate the other side is definitely NOT the definition of toxic. At all.
But yes, I do concede that having blinds be paid only would be a bad move. I didn't think of that. But I will say flashbangs feel more earned, as someone else pointed out. They function better for the game's current state.
I'm not getting into the debate of toxicity and the response to it here, that's a pointless venture, but I will state that my point isn't that flashlights are annoying, its the fact that they literally only exist to be a nuisance and don't really benefit those that don't use it that way. not often at least. They're tools that primarily are only used to further a try-hard squad's ability to bully the killer into an unwinnable match and/or push them into a high stress match. They just aren't good for the health of the game, no matter how you look at it.
Yes, tunneling needs more preventatives, but do survivors really need 15 different ways to invalidate a killer's hard work? If you spend your time on a chase and finally manage to get a down, is it really fair to have 15 different ways to have that pressure instantly revoked? It's a tough topic, I know, but try to understand what I'm actually saying instead of just opening the "toxicity is fine" survivor privilege book.

The only way a flashlight could be considered toxic is if a Killer injuring someone is considered equally toxic. I'd be glad to be rid of clickies to make sure my soloq teammates actually do gens for their flashbangs instead of throwing by never touching a gen in their life though.
That's what I'm saying. Flashbangs and Blast Mines just feel more earned, and they can be just as effective. Flashlights are just outdated and leave way too much room for exploits and abusing. It just promotes toxic behavior and makes people waste time.

UPDATE: Just saw the same thing happen again, definitely looked intentional. Didn't catch exactly how they did it, but they really looked like they knew what they were doing. It's kinda sad sitting there watching these people abuse this bug to become essentially invulnerable and bully the killer. It's not right watching people get away with being so disgustingly toxic.

FYI the devs are already planning on adding bots to custom private matches which will allow you to play solo against bots using or against any killer. It's on their current roadmap so it could be as soon as the next mid-chapter even depending on how far along they are on it.
Oh sweet. That'd be awesome. Honestly, sometimes (especially around rank reset weeks) the game just gets to be so try hard and stressful, it'd be nice to be able to have a few casual rounds against dumb bots and just have fun.

In the few killer games I played lately I have the feeling that I always get the same attitude of players. Survivors that dont really want to play the game the way it is intented but just run around clicking at me, Dead harding into god pallets and then teabagging like they did the mindgame of a lifetime etc. If I lose the game I get a lot of ez spam in the chat even before I can say anything and if I win I get a long list of why my win is completely invalid and that they basically want to take me to DBD court and make sure that I never play killer again.
What I find especially weird is that most survivors even though they admit they basically came into my matches to ruin my experience get completely outraged when I start to react toxic towards them with camping and tunneling. Then they tell me that all their toxic behaviour doesnt in any way justify me reacting toxic towards them. But I should just keep playing the game normally and let them mess with me
I really dont get why this attitude is so widespread at least from what Im experiencing lately. Are survivors just bored or frustrated with the game? and if so how exactly does this help against that?
It is unfortunate that so many people elect to be toxic and negative, and more unfortunate that there really isn't anything to be done about it. They want a reaction, they want to anger you, I guess it might be a tactic to agitate the Killer so they make more mistakes or something? In any case, the best thing you ca do is ignore them and focus on the other Survivors, or if they're all like this, just go to the exit gates and wait for the Gens to pop off, then open the gates and wait for them to leave or time out.
Simply put, they act like this to get a reaction. So don't give them one. Their ability to bully you relies on you putting effort into outplaying them. So don't give them any effort. It's about all you can do. Don't let them ruin the game for you, not everyone is like that. Just ignore them and don't engage with them, and your next rounds might be better.
I really believe BHVR could at least try to do something about it, maybe address it or make a statement at the very least (to show they care at least a little), but even then, nothing you can do. If they put some system into place to punish toxic people, it will be misused and good people will suffer too.
It's the way of the world. Ego and toxicity. Just don't let them drag you down to their level, ignore them and enjoy your game.

dude i don't know that kinda looks like your gpu gave up
May not be entirely untrue. But even on my crappy laptop I never saw this until the Nemesis update. It's not common, but it has happened a handful of times on a variety of killers and survivors. Round starts normal then just completely breaks.

I'd argue that if the game was in a better state, both in terms of functionality and balance, the amount of toxicity would decrease. That said, all games will have a small pocket of folks that get enjoyment out of being "toxic."
The reality is, too many people take this game very personally, when you shouldn't. Usually, people that click flashlights are trying to taunt you into a chase (draw attention away from weaker teammates), meme, or otherwise just do anything before taking a hit. Additionally, I've always seen teabagging as a friendly taunt, not as some ultimate, malicious attack on me as a person. Very few people get any kind of enjoyment out of genuinely ruining someone else's experience, nor do they go into matches with negative intentions.
You do have a point there, when I do get fairly balanced matches, or matches that are unbalanced in my favor, people are far less likely to be toxic. They don't have that confidence knowing you actually can pose a threat to them. I still say the original Rank Based match making was way better than what we have now. Sure, you still got some bad matches, but they were few. Overall, the problem with that system was it was way too easy to rank up as a killer, which meant that even moderate success could send you into the deep end with survivors way out of your range. But after a match or two it put you back where you belong.
I will say, the match making now is pretty balanced on a Survivor side, I haven't gotten too many rounds that were super unbalanced on either side. The issue is on the Killer side. It ranks you up way too easy and it takes way too much to rank down again. It gives me a bunch of babies, so of course I can steam roll them. And then the match making thinks Im just the greatest player in the region and gives me nothing but the untouchable clicky squads that blast through gens in 3 minutes with zero mistakes. But I get completely steam rolled myself, and it just gives me the same people 5 times in a row.
It need to be WAY harder to "rank up" in the eyes of the match making system, and it needs to be far better at recognizing skill imbalance.
I do understand that some people just brush off the toxic behavior, and it is easy to do if you're not struggling at all.

Back to the original point -- I agree. Toxic players are the biggest problem with DBD. I tried to play tonight and every single game I loaded into, killer or survivor, I matched with at least one toxic survivor. They griefed the killer, they griefed their teammates, they said mean stuff in the chat. I literally don't understand why.
Where I differ is that I do blame BHVR, because they've created a game that facilitates bullying and then they haven't made any attempt to control the bullies. So they're making money off creating a digital environment where people can be a lot nastier than they'd get away with being in person, and they're just like, "Eh -- you know. There's a bad apple in every bunch." Maybe do something to try to sort the apples, if you're profiting off them.
This is exactly my point. I was kind of angry rambling in my original post, but this is what I was trying to say. I don't care about "winning" or "losing" matches, I play for the experience. The new gen speeds have definitely made this more of a problem as now if survivors have any idea how to cooperate or gen rush the round is over in 5 minutes or less, regardless how well you play, but even that wouldn't be such an issue if people weren't so disgustingly toxic.
I get t-bagged and clicked all the time, and just brush it off. It's just people being people, sad but true. But when you're already struggling to break someone out of the 5th loop they've gotten you into while 3 gens have popped off by the time you finally get a down, it does amplify the effect. It's not just the act of rapidly pressing control or clicking a flashlight, its the idea that these people see you struggling and decide it best to further stress you out by taunting you, rubbing in your face how much your struggling for a single hit. There is no sympathy, no empathy. They see you as beneath them, and they choose to punish you for it.
I just don't get it. Why do you feel the need to punish people for not being good enough to steamroll you? Why do you feel the insatiable urge to mock and belittle people for trying to learn the game? We should be encouraging new players, not bullying them for our own amusement. I want to get my friends into Dead by Daylight, but now its just so toxic, I really don't even want to. I may get them to play Custom Matches with me, but I really have to caution them how toxic the public gameplay is. That's sad. I want to encourage my friends to play this game, be excited they want to play it. I want this community to grow, expand, I want the game to keep growing as the Hall of Fame of Horror it's becoming. But it's hard when you have to deal with such a toxic community mocking and bullying you so they have good footage for their Twitch or YouTube channels.
And thinking about it, I try not to blame BHVR, because it's hard to mediate hundreds of millions of people. But I guess you do have a point, the best they've done is implement a reporting system that you know for a fact is misused by kids who want revenge for losing a match. Like I said, you can't really expect people to stop being toxic, that's just how people are sadly. Toxic players get more views on Twitch and YouTube. But even making a statement discouraging it or something, show you care even a little. If I had a game this popular, I'd be very disheartened if i saw people using it to bully each other.

Honestly, as someone who really tries to get somewhat good with each killer, Nemesis is severely disappointing. His power is to hit people over pallets and through windows and attack with essentially the range of a lunge attack, but only if survivors are already infected. And they never stay infected for long. And it's a very narrow, easy to dance around attack.
Basically his only power is a highly nerfed version of Pyramid Head's shockwave, if the shockwave could only hit one survivor and only damaged survivors that are afflicted with Torment. If you're a good M1 killer, it can be kind of useful in chases and, if you get a good hang of its range and speed and all, can be put to decent effect. It can also be used to destroy pallets and resume chase much faster than stopping to break it, and can also prevent Blinding at pallets as well, that is if you manage to get it to Tier 2 (good luck against Red Ranks).
But you still have nothing to affect any other survivors. There are zombies yes, but only two. And they move so slow that they're really only useful in highly cramped maps where you can sort of corral survivors and cut off their escape routes. I've played about 20-30 rounds with Nemesis and have only ever had the zombies be useful once, when one happened to spawn and block a pallet in a loop allowing me to snag a down.
To be honest, even if they made it to where the Tentacle Strike damaged and Infected healthy survivors, it still would be a very lack-luster power. This is NEMESIS we're talking about, this guy should be as powerful and intimidating as the Oni, but instead he's basically the Trapper. M1 killer with a power that's 90% useless.
Long and the short of it, why play an M1 killer that survivors mock and laugh at (and leave the entire map open to gen rushing while in a chase that takes 3 times longer than any other killer) when you have almost every other killer with abilities that can actually apply pressure to survivors?
-
That's what the Adrenaline Vial does. It's a give and take. It gives you 2 additional rush tokens but takes your ability to turn. The description doesn't make it very clear, but Look Angle is your camera movement ability, where Turn Rate is how fast and sharp you can actually turn your Blight. Couple it with Turn Rate boosting add-ons, might help you.
-
Agreed. Matchmaking definitely needs a lot of work. For the last week about 90 percent of players I match up with just walk all over me, both Survivor and Killer. The imbalance of actual skill level is getting ridiculous, every round I've played in the last week has had at least two people at double my rank. Lately Dead by Daylight has been basically unplayable as Killer and barely playable as Survivor. I don't mind a challenge, but what's the point when you're getting completely bulldozed every single round?
