She has high killrate because the average survivor has zero idea how to deal with her power, and I don't blame them. But what I've noticed playing her is that while average survivors play against her and lose, good survivors that could probably defeat her immediately give up, thus inflating the killrate.

She is very confusing and unintuitive to understand for beginners and average survivors, and unless you've played as her, you'll miss a ton of important info.

    • She has undetectable, old SM didn't. From the survivor perspective she just suddenly has it without rhyme or reason, plus she's completely silent.
    • Stealth drones scan people and you have to "know" that they can scan you from the lights, there's no indication that they can. You also just have to "know" that you can stand still or crouch to avoid scanlines. White scanlines help a lot and was a good update, but it's still confusing when the drones start in stealth mode
    • There's no indication that SM can track you on her radar, no beeping, no red light, nothing really. Unless you've played her, you may not even realize her radar exists. I purposefully hold my radar up when I find some locked on survivor hiding in a corner, to teach them that I can find them.
    • There's no indication that SM has any kind of haste, and it's frustrating to get hit in places where you'd otherwise reach a pallet

I get why they're reworking her, but man they really didn't have to gut the entire power into oblivion. Why not add a custom movement animation when she's walking faster than 115%? Or make it so she only gets haste from survivors within 32m of her? And removing an entire scanline is absolute insanity. Her power will be totally useless.

Actually old SM DID have undetectable. It applied whenever she was in the radius of one of her drones for a few seconds and lingered a few seconds once she left

  • The killers the decide to nerf and buff are so nonsensical it boggles the mind. They refuse to touch S tier killers like Nurse Blight and Spirit for YEARS and then when they do they barely do much of anything at all. Ooh they knocked blight's addons from S tier down to S tier.

They won't touch the bottom either. I know they have plans to look at Myers and Freddy but Trapper is one they could have and should have given attention by now.

Meanwhile they buffed an already strong killer(Huntress) to the point where survivors now have to dodge 7 hatchets in a single chase in order to actually escape, and already well balanced killer(Nemesis)

It is clear they don't have the slightest idea what characters are the most in need of attention nor do they understand what the problems of every killer even are.

  • I am glad people are dragging this patch through the mud before it even hits the PTB. BHVR deserves to be ridiculed for even proposing these ######### changes.

Those are all reasons why she's awful. No one enjoys any of those things.

You also compared that abomination to things that are drastically different and less abominable, hence the response. How could I possibly ignore a statement so void of reason or understanding?

No one enjoys feeling like they're losing, or being handicapped without actually interacting with the opposing side. No one would be up in arms if her main source of lethality was being an 115% MS M1 killer, but it's a bunch of drones that not only aid her in chases vs. people who aren't even triggering her drones (super fun btw) but it also takes all of the skill out of tracking and chasing if someone is moving nearly 20% slower than they should be, and stuck on a radar. The killer just robs people of their skillset. Same reason why people hated quickscope Slinger on release, it was a skill-robbing character.

Again those aren't things that are boring or uninteractive. You just don't like them on her but are fine with them on other killers because they aren't her. If she had another killer's kit you would still be complaining. Your entire argument is basically that she has a power and that is bad.

Of course no one would be up in arms if she was just an m1 killer with nothing to help her get hits. That is why people loved old Billy so much - he was worthless. You aren't mad because survivors are handicapped. You are mad that killers aren't.

When you run through a loop, you get scanned every rotation (sometimes twice), and if you leave the loop, you give her a free M1. So how again does she have counterplay?

Drop pallets, take windows, like any m1 killer? If you do get scanned you have a 3 second invulnerability period. You can waste plenty of her time at one loop even with a drone in it. If she goes to break the pallet you get distance. If you get claw trapped you get the same post hit speed boost to you would normally get from getting hit to make it to another loop. You can stand still for a brief second to avoid being scanned(do that if she isn't just holding W around the loop.)

Acting like there is nothing you can do against a Skull Merchant is just crazy.

Trapper's traps aren't 8m wide, they're disarmed faster, can't be remote reset, he doesn't have a +15% speed differential, his traps don't give him stealth, he can't look at a radar to find the most recent player to escape his traps.

Hag is 110%, Hag's traps have on-going exploits to always be out of lunge range, she can't remote reset her traps, Hag doesn't have a +15% speed differential, her traps don't hinder, (only at the cost of losing the TP entirely) she can't look at a radar to find the most recent player to trip her traps…

Are we even playing the same game? Is the game you're playing Dead by Daylight?

That isn't even an answer to what I asked. I asked what makes her more boring and uninteractive than those killers and you only gave me reasons she is stronger than them. Those aren't the same thing.

If you get tagged my a drone that only emits one single beam at the speed the scan goes you are either catatonic or your computer froze, no human player that can react to whats happening will let such a slow and telegraphed attack hit them. And that is WITH the killer chasing them, if someone gets tagged by ptb metchant outside of chase, thats just....LMAO

People get tagged by one beam on live

  • While we are on the subject of unfun things to go against, when are you going to advocate geting rid of lithe and sprint burst and balanced landing and brand new parts and boil over and map offerings and….

Ok I guess to be clearer, maybe my post (describing her current flaws) should have been the dev message. It clearly details all the problems with SM, and how the current actions are parts 1 and 2, of 4 total nerfs that must be done to make her not frustrating to go against.

No it was absolute nonsense. SM has counterplay already. Her hinder effect doesn't even come into play until you get scanned 4 ######### times so removing haste but leaving hinder makes no ######### sense and doesn't even do anything to counteract the fact she loses bloodlust.

  • Ngl at this point even if they do renege on these changes I am not sure I will have any faith left in BHVR. And the statements outside of it show an outright disregard for the people who actually play the characters they are nerfing. If they don't care about the people who bought these characters and play them then I don't think I want to spend any more of my money on this game. Like why buy something when it can just be a completely different thing next year?

She had a kill rate of 70% in the most recent stats. The devs have said they're shooting for 60%. Only one other killer was above 63%. She absolutely needed nerfs.

It is not my dislike of her that matters. It is the widespread dislike of her that matters. I specifically said she should be reworked. I'm not trying to get them to delete the character and she will not be unplayable in the meantime for those who enjoy her. She just won't be nearly as strong, which is the right thing to do until she can be reworked.

A kill rate inflated by idiots who refuse to learn to play against her choosing to suicide on hook or throw the game instead. With that in mind is that really a healthy way to decide what needs nerfed and what doesn't? Absolutely not. If survivors can just throw games to inflate kill rates to get killers nerfed that sets a TERRIBLE precedent don't you think? Or are you alright with it this time cause it is SM?

She isn't an overpowered character. You and everyone who has already made up your minds just refuse to learn.

There is plenty of variety in the killers you face as survivor. There are 37 killers on the roster now with at least a few new ones every year. They can afford to nerf one that is widely hated until they get time to rework her.

Besides, people will continue to play Skull Merchant after these changes. Not as many, surely, but that's a good thing.

They shouldn't be nerfing anything unless it actually needs to be and she doesn't need to be. Period.

Acting like your dislike of her makes it fine to just gut her and leave people who like her in the dust is ######### toxic as hell.

But if Survivors dont want to destroy her drones they gonna get affected by them. The drones are near the Generators. She can use them very well for 3 Genning. You better start not lying my dear. Have a great day.

Drones literally do nothing to you while you are on a gen healing or doing a totem. Try being honest for once.

Making Skull Merchant doing rotating with her drones would make her more skillfull for sure.

I do realize that 3 Gen Update came out w few months ago, but it didn't eliminate 3 Gen Situations and these situations are mostly against Skull Merchant

No it wouldn't. You are just proving you don't know what you are talking about. SM's drones got reworked to not affect survivors on gens. She literally can't defend gens like she used to. Stop lying.

  • @ays12151 said:

To be fair most of Skull Merchants players just summoned these changes. Shull Merchants players usually play with boring playstyle (usually 3 Gen) that requires almost zero skill and that's why people hate to play against her. After the Update Skull Merchant will need to rotate with her drone to acutally apply the effect on the Survivor. I know she is nerfed to the ground, BHVR can add some buffs for her, but with 1 Scan Line she is more skillfull to play as, right?

You do realize 3 gen skull merchant hasn't been a thing for a while, right? Jesus you people need to get new arguments. No having one scan line won't make her "more skillful" it will just make her clunky.

Mmm no Skull Merchant takes the cake now. A purely M1 killer with no way to realistically injure, pressure, or down survivors outside of an M1 and being slightly shorter than trapper.

You'll still be able to tag people. 3 lock on stacks will still injure. As well as being able to sneak up on people with undetectable. Trapper is still leagues below where ptb skully will be. I say that as someone who mains Trapper

  • @TheGriffinDore said:

Skull Merchant could be the weakest killer in the game and still deserve these changes. Power level has nothing to do with it, it's a game health thing. She's incredibly uninteractive, painfully boring, and only beats survivors by drowning them in a sea of unavoidable AOEs. This killer was a mistake, and shouldn't exist for the overall health of DBD.

I don't feel bad for anyone who invested 100 prestige levels in a character so prone to constant changes and reworks due to how unhealthy she is for the game, just to immediately complain that she's getting gutted out like everyone saw coming over a year ago.

Found the toxic player ;) In all seriousness though how is she any more "uninteractive" or "boring" than any other m1 killer? She plays in a similar way to Hag or Trapper.

  • Okay as someone who plays Trapper you have to stop saying "X killer is the worst killer in the game" every time they get a nerf

No killer will ever be as bad as Trapper is except arguably Freddy.

You cannot compare a killer who(even with the proposed changes) will still be able to go undetectable at will, injure survivors across obstacles, hit and run without hitting, potentially instadown with two taps, etc. and who starts with her power in hand at the start and doesn't even have to go and collect it to a killer who has to pick his power up off the ground every time.

  • They just need to leave her as she is on live because that is the best she is ever going to be. I don't want a refund. I want to play the character I bought in the game I bought and not have to deal with nonsense because of it.

  • SM as she is on live is a balanced killer. She doesn't need the changes they are proposing or really much of any changes at all.

  • @Langweilig said:

While I agree that she will be bad, the haste removal is one of the right nerfs tho, the others might be too much, but I‘m happy that they basically gutt her as someone who hates her.

    No it isn't lol.

She literally loses bloodlust by using her power. The haste just lets her get something for it. BHVR shouldn't be changing killers to suit people who hate the killer. You people just need to get over the fact she exists already.

  • Skull Merchant didn't need these changes. She was already in a balanced state. The only reason she has a high kill rate is because there are still people who refuse to play against her.

She needs the haste in order to counteract the fact she doesn't get bloodlust because she has to place drones and look at her radar - which reset her bloodlust. The hinder barely even comes into play most matches so the nerf to it is both unnecessary AND irrelevant.

Having just one scan line literally cuts her power in half.

All in all, terrible changes. Scrap them completely and leave her as she is on live servers.

  • Yeah this was happening to me earlier too

  • I just did one for the jurassic park raptors:

    New Killer - The Raptor

    Power - Pack Hunter

Passive Ability: The Pack - The Raptor doesn't hunt alone. Two others stalk the trial grounds on their own. If alerted by a noise notification these raptors will investigate. If a survivor comes within line of sight, they will give out an alert call and give chase for a time, inflicting damage if they come into contact.

Active Ability: Call for Help - The Raptor can themselves issue an alert call which will cause the other raptors to make their way towards their location. If a survivor is detected during this time the raptors will move faster and chase longer. This ability has a cooldown of 25 seconds.

Secondary Attack: Leap - By pressing and holding the power button, The Raptor charges a leap attack. The longer the button is held down the higher and longer the leap will go, propelling The Raptor over obstacles and dealing damage to survivors on impact.

The Raptor comes with three new perks

Clever Girl - When a survivor begins performing an action within your terror radius you gain the undetectable status effect for 15 seconds. This perk goes on cooldown for 30 seconds once the effect ends.

Rapid Pursuit - You no longer gain bloodlust. Whenever a survivor performs a rushed action within 10 meters of you, increase the speed of your vault and breaking actions by 50%. This perk goes on cooldown for 30 seconds after performing a vault or break action.

Test for Weaknesses - Any time you lose chase with a survivor, you see the aura of the nearest other survivor for 6 seconds.

But again, if he is close enough to the survivor that the survivor can get a stun against Vecna, Vecna can just block the pallet and get a hit like that. Survivors need some distance in order for block to not lead to a hit, because the slowdown after using Mage Hand is rather little.

Mage Hand has a bit of counterplay, like at loops where Vecna can not see the survivor, he can not know whether the survivor is waiting at the pallet for a stun or not. But the counterplay is too little at the moment. Once the nerf happens, survivors will be able to mindgame mage hand if they have enough distance, because Vecna will be forced to use Mage Hand on prediction instead of reaction.

The nerf Mage Hand will receive is completely fine, believe me. Mage Hand will still be strong after the nerf, you'll just have to try and predict whether a survivor will drop the pallet or not.

If he blocks the pallet the survivor usually has enough time to make it around the loop again before vecna can hit them unless he is just right on top of them when the block happens - in which case he just timed it correctly and should get the hit. That is how the killer being right on the survivor should work most of the time imo.

  • @ad19970 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3737592#Comment_3737592

Again, how do you bait out an ability that Vecna can simply use on reaction? He just has to react to the pallet drop and that's it, or he blocks the pallet in time if survivors get in stunning range of him and gets a hit that way.

You greed the pallet until he is catching up. He will either respect to try to get the lift which can give you distance, or he won't in which case you can just drop the pallet on him. You can pretend like you are going to drop the pallet when he is close and get him to block the pallet instead and then he won't have mage hand available for 38 seconds.

  • @ad19970 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3736498#Comment_3736498

No it really doesn't work at all. Only against Vecnas that aren't experienced enough yet to know that you can just currently react to the pallet drop instead of predicting it. That's the problem. How do you bait out an ability that can just be used on reaction instead of prediction? Once the nerf hits live, then you will be able to bait out Mage Hand, because Vecna will be forced to use Mage Hand by predicting when the survivor will drop the pallet.

Even with the nerf, you will still be able to get guaranteed hits by blocking the pallet if you are close enough to the survivor when they reach the pallet. But that I would argue is ok since it has a 38 second cooldown. However, right now, even if the survivor has a fair amount of distance to Vecna, they have no counterplay, because predropping the pallet doesn't work since Vecna can just react to the drop instead of predicting it, getting a guaranteed hit anyways. With the nerf coming, Vecna will have to use Mage Hand on prediction, which will open up possible mind games with Mage Hand as long as the survivor has a bit of distance to Vecna.

Huh I must have imagined all those survivors doing it to me. /s

it absolutely does work. It has happened to me when I play Vecna and I have done it against Vecna.

  • @ad19970 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3735480#Comment_3735480

See that's not true. Once Vecna catches up to the survivor enough, blocking the pallet will result in a free hit. The slowdown vecna has to endure is not enough for the survivor to then make it around the loop another time. Unless the survivor has the interloper item. And it's even worse if Vecna has the Boots of Speed addon, which also still needs a nerf or rework.

There are going to be situations in the game where you are going to lose no matter what you do. That isn't a problem with the game. That is just how games work. In general, however, greeding pallets and baiting out mage hand will work against Vecna. Just because it doesn't ALWAYS work doesn't mean it needs to be changed. If every killer had counterplay that just always worked no matter how close the killer is to you or how the killer reacts then every killer would be D tier.

Also boots of speed are actual garbage. 2 seconds of 5% haste is completely worthless except in the most specific cases. Especially in a loop where can't even hug it as tight as the survivor can.

  • @Hannacia said:

I like Vecna i really do, but i am starting to notice some issues. Mage hand. Its really hard to dodge. Yeah it wont last long but trying to survive another loop will result a hit or down. Fact that he can just stop a pallet or raise a pallet and walk through with almost 0 cooldown is a problem.

Second problem i have is his flight of the damned. The skill itself is fine. I have no issues of killers having ranged attacks, but i have an issue that when he uses it in chase you eather crouch and get hit by Vecna himself or don't crouch and take the hit from the skulls. There is no avoiding being hit. This is while in chase. Off chase that attack is easy to dodge.

So i'm not sure if he's just another W killer who forces you to run forward until you go down. His cooldowns are long yes but he technically has 2 skills that will give him 2 hits no matter what in chase and me personally i am not a fan of hits you have no way to avoid.

I have already gone against multiple survivors who have successfully dodged mage hand. The only thing hard about it imo is getting out of the mindset of camping or pre-dropping pallets. Which a lot of survivors like to do and it works against a lot of killers even though it really shouldn't.

  • @JackOf4llTrades said:

Bro, im just gonna say that she was first, but not the last killer released, who can make A LOT:

    1. Her.
    2. Singularity (teleport, scouting, objective denying, fast vaulting, fast breaking, unstunnable).
    3. Chucky (very small - barely seen in the grass, undetectable, can run fast and hit, fast vaulting, double jumping)

For example, what can Trapper do? He sets traps. So basically all he can do is to block SOME paths, but it's still easy to counter, especially if you saw where he set his traps and you play via discord.

What can Wesker do? Fast vaulting, fast running via his abbility, slowing, oneshotting with addon by abbility.

What can Onryo do? Teleport, instakill (rare).

What can Xeno do? Controllable teleporting, low ranged hit.

These killers barely do anything compared to how much first three can do. And the thing is that developers don't see any problems with them.

And now this awful anniversary that DOESN'T FIT DBD with Vecna, who can: fly, block pallets, pick up pallets, damage with medium ranged wide abbility, track survivors and mori them if they have items.

All these little things should tell you one thing, which was told before: developers doesn't care unless they begin to lose money on that. Ask yourself, why feng min has the most skins in game.

Xeno has built in stealth, built in info, built in slowdown with survivors having to place turrets, mobility, anti-loop, etc.

Onryo has mobility, stealth, info, slowdown, and potential lethality

Chucky has stealth, anti-loop, a damn good chase power, and mobility

Unknown has info, anti-loop, a great chase power, mobility…..

I can agree with this in current state she is the most unhealthy killer in the game. As a survivor you can't guarantee your lose was even your fault because the give up rate is so incredibly high that it puts every chase and hook into questions. And as the killer you have the same issue with every win at any point even a group of people who stayed your forced to think how seriously did the other side even try do to the hate and dislike the community has for this killer. I've been in threads here and seen people who are adamant about not giving up or DCing with the "stick it out" mentality but regardless your play style is gonna suffer unless your completely motivated and excited to play

And when it comes to SM almost no one is in that boat let alone 4 in one game

She isn't even close to the most unhealthy killer in the game lol.

  • @n000b51 said:

You can bait a drop to get him to use it to pick up the pallet only to have it be blocked instead, and run back around and drop it, etc.

You can do it once, but the next loop you need something else because between the 2 tiles, the Lich usually sends these Skeletons that you need to dodge too. So you probably will lose half a second and you can be downed by a free hit just before to reach the pallet from the 1st.loop.

Had a match earlier where survivors did it all game and managed a 3 man out. There is no "free hit" here. In all of this the killer player had to time their abilities right while also continuing to chase and catch up to the survivor in order for the zoning aspect of flight of the damned to even matter. All while FOTD is the easiest killer power to dodge in the entire game.

  • You can do it once, but the next loop you need something else because between the 2 tiles, the Lich usually sends these Skeletons that you need to dodge too. So you probably will lose half a second and you can be downed by a free hit just before to reach the pallet from the 1st.loop.

Where is the "free hit" here? All of this requires the killer player to time their powers correctly and be chasing the survivor effectively enough to catch up at the same time.

  • I play both roles and mage hand is 100% counterable. You can bait out mage hand or greed pallets until he is forced to use it and just keep running around the tile until it runs out. You can also use window loops where mage hand isn't even usable.

People complaining about Mage Hand are people who are used to being able to pre-drop every pallet on the map and win. When that doesn't work they call the killer OP and demand nerfs instead of learning to play different.

  • Skull Merchant post-rework is 100% fine and people still complaining about her were never going to change their opinion about her no matter how BHVR changed her.

It is, many people have already figured out how to use Mage Hand, and how there isn't a lot of counterplay against it.

The nerf is going to happen, and that's a good thing.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls4Ni-mDlQQ

Go to 6:35 and see for yourself how even predropping the pallet with as much distance as Kate has in this video doesn't help against Mage Hand. What exactly was Kate supposed to do in this situation? The nerf to Mage Hand is going to make that ability at least a bit more manageable.

There is hella counterplay to mage hand. For one, don't pre drop the pallet or try to camp it when he has mage hand available. Greed it until he uses the block and run back around and drop it when it runs out. You can bait a drop to get him to use it to pick up the pallet only to have it be blocked instead, and run back around and drop it, etc.

You can't sit there and try to do the same thing you do against every m1 killer with no anti-loop in the game and then say there isn't any counterplay.

They shouldn't nerf the slowdown back to how it was on the ptb obviously, in my opinion the movement speed of Mage Hand's cooldown would only need a very small reduction and that's it. But I guess the nerf Mage Hand is getting is ok as well.

It really isn't. It is way too soon to be changing a killer just because people refuse to learn to play different.

    • We're reverting the pallet lift time to 0.5s (was 0.35s) - this is the same as the PTB version.

We'll also be reworking the Ring of Telekenesis add-on (which currently causes Mage Hand to pick up pallets quicker) to have a different effect since this turned out to be a very risky number to mess with.

And lastly, as a quick reminder, we'll be fixing a bug which caused Mage Hand to continue picking up a pallet after it stuns you (the stun will correctly cancel Mage Hand), so combining it with Enduring will no longer be an issue.

Can you not? It hasn't even been a week yet. Let the playerbase have some time to discover how to play against him. It actually isn't even that hard. All they would have to do is learn to not pre-drop or camp pallets.

The problem with this nerf is that it does nothing against blocking pallets, which is arguably also still a bit too strong, granting too many free hits at loops just for blocking the pallet. Especially with the addon Boots of Speed.

I really think the pallet pick up time is fine, and the nerf that Vecna's Mage Hand needs is a small movement speed reduction to the Mage Hand post-cast cooldown.

We already saw what that looked like in the PTB. It made Mage Hand totally useless.

  • "Even with skull merchant you break the pallets if you vault with a claw trap."

Skull Merchant doesn't do this anymore

  • "Drones radius cant come within 5 meters of a gen"

I do not get how anyone can actually suggest this when gens are important things for killers to keep tabs on. Skull Merchant putting drones on gens was never the issue. Only walking between the closest 3 gens was. Gens spawn all over the map and in loops so not letting SM put drones near them would make some loops unplayable even for a chase merchant.

  • We just got out of one gen kick meta. Don't try to put us back in another one by reworking a perk that is fine, please. UW is an info perk and there are plenty of other perks/addons that cause blindness but no one complains about them.

She should not be even able to destroy the turrets with her tail to begin with so the fact that she can do it at the cost of being slowed down is not that bad. Turrets felt useless before and now after that change they feel better because of that. They hit the nail on the head imo and the killer now is fine, I still enjoy her too when I play her.

Um yes she absolutely should be able to destroy them. Without that ability xeno would be just another killer like singularity who has their power completely in the hands of survivors.

  • No it doesn't. The solution to a camping killer is the same as it has always been. Rush gens. The killer either stays at hook and loses the game or leaves the hook and you get the save. This perk hasn't changed that in any way. If the killer uses it to see that no one is coming for the save then maybe they won't camp and if they still do - see the above.
