Honestly its fine and can be countered. Starstruck is a pretty strong deterrent, and also if multiple survivors are off not doing gens I think you're in an all right position even if they do act annoying.

What's the benefit though? If you're the only one left and the killer hooks you, they can just facecamp until you unhook yourself/go to second stage. And if you do unhook yourself, everyone involved then has to wait 60 seconds while the killer waits out the possible DS. To me it seems like it would just waste everybody's time.
You can dead hard to the gate and plus, if you have DS you can crawl to the gate during the duration and on the off chance, mettle of man. Plus extra points are nice.
