  • I wouldn't be happy if he got in. Or anything Harry Potter related. I'm sure a lot of DBD's fanbase would think similarly.

I don’t want to assume so someone correct me if I’m wrong:

It selects the two most voted for options on survivor and killer, eliminating all other other choices from the pool.

Now you whether you want change your vote or choose between the two most selected and their “sub options”

I imagine from there it will branch down into another “change your fate” until it’s narrowed down to solidify a final popular vote.

so like as an example next one will be like choose between this sub touched or sub apocalyptic survivor.

like playoffs almost if you’ve ever filled out a tournament sheet to guess whose going to win as it narrows down the team but instead of you just losing they let you continue picking between the winners.

update I see your concerned with the diffs of percentages due to uneven choice for fair shakes

Yeah, I was concerned with the percentages. I guess if things are really as fluid with this Grimoire as they are making it out to be, I don't see why we couldn't combine the previous vote with this one to make something like Otherworldly Beastly instead of just completely overriding things and making it so that this whole Grimoire thing becoming a constantly flip flop of the majority losing and the minority winning.

It would override the previous, changing to a Chimeric Killer with the new force controlling it.

Gotcha. In that case, lemme explain the stats on this that makes me a bit worried.

Chimeric got 27% of the votes. Otherworldly got almost 35%.

Otherworldy has three options listed, meanwhile Chimeric has two options listed for it. Let's now say that the people who vote for Otherworldly are now split evenly between the three Otherworldly options, meanwhile Chimeric is divided between the two Chimeric options.

Chimeric now wins because of the sole fact it has only two options listed for it, with 13.5% given to each of the two options and Otherworldly being split at around 11% for each option. The majority who voted for Otherworldly now loses, despite winning the majority on the previous vote, and now the minority wins, SOLELY because of how the options were structured.

This seems a bit extreme to expect that votes will happen evenly between options, but actually it probably makes things a bit more rigged towards Chimeric because I expect the people who voted for that option want a Werewolf killer of some sort, which means votes will lean HEAVILY towards Beastly, meanwhile Otherworldly is still split between the three options listed for it.

NOW lets look into the future at the next vote. Let's say that Beastly wins this vote (because I'm guessing it probably will looking at the reasoning above), and let's say an Otherworldly option such as Divine gets second place. Now all the people who voted for Otherworldly are going to pile into one or two of the Divine options, and the three options listed for Beastly are going to be split again. So an Otherworldly option wins. BECAUSE of how things are structured, we are just going to be left with constant flip-flopping of the minority winning and the majority losing.

Combining the two winning votes instead (Into something like Otherworldly Beastly) would mean that everyone is happy instead of completely changing tracks.

  • @Coordi said:

At the top of the Grimoire pages, it shows the two closest votes, i.e. Otherworldly and Chimeric. Changing the fate means that Chimeric, the runner up to the votes, can still be selected if the Community wants to turn the tides! It allows you to see what "could have been", and maybe that's the more delicious choice afterall.

    🖤

Oh yeah I understand that, but does it completely override the previous vote or does it combine it with the previous vote?

For example, since Otherworldly won the first time, and let's say that Beastly (an option from Chimeric) won this time. Would it combine the two, so we would have an Otherworldly Beastly killer now? Or does it just go back to being Chimeric?

I would HEAVILY prefer if it combined the two instead of completely removing the previous vote. I don't think completely overriding is a good idea and would leave a lot of people unhappy (including me).

  • I guess to explain my reasoning a little bit further, having it completely override means this will be a VERY bad design and will result in a bunch of constant flipflops.

Chimeric got 27% of the votes. Otherworldly got almost 35%. HOWEVER people who voted for Otherworldly will now be split between the three options given for Otherworldly. There are only two options for Chimeric, which means the people who voted for Chimeric will only be split between the two. This is even more skewed if you consider the fact that the people who voted for Chimeric voted that way because they like the concept of werewolf, which means a lot of people will be voting for Beastly.

(Also side-note, can we have the option to change our votes this time like on the previous Grimoire?)

Gens be flying and they removed insta hooking so… Tunneling and bleeding will be more common now. I've played now 7 games and the gen speeds and the buffs survivors got are ridiculous.

Yeah its crazy the gen speed that survivors get for the killers doing their normal objective.

I don't want to just sit here and hope. I am asking BHVR to please include diversity.

Also, I'll propose the same thing I did last year: Could we please have 4 winners for each category? That is, 4 winners for a survivor skin, 4 for a killer skin, 4 for a survivor charm, and 4 for a killer charm? There are 4 rifts in a year, so each rift could feature a contest cosmetic winner. Each rift would contain 1 CC (Community Contest) survivor skin, 1 CC killer skin, 2 CC charms. (maybe even CC banners/badges?)

I think that it would be amazing to have every rift have something from the community.

I really don't think they are going to do 4 from each category, that seems like a LOT of work for what are essentially free skins.

I think at most what I would request is that they choose 1 female skin and 1 male skin for the survivor side of the contest. That seems the most reasonable to me.

  • @Alen_Starkly said:

Could you PLEASE choose a male survivor as a winner, finally? We have only had female survivor winners so far. You will never ever make money from these skins, since you will be selling them with shards, not auric cells, so the excuse in popularity does not apply here.

Please, choose a male survivor as a winner. It's about time.

While it would be nice to see a male survivor win, I'm just glad they are doing the contest again for another year so we even have that chance. I'm not going to be picky.

  • @Peanits said:

I can confirm that we still plan to run the cosmetic contests this year, though as you've already noticed, they will be starting a little later than usual. We'll announce them as soon as they're ready!

Awesome to hear, thank you for confirming it.

  • Damn, I guess they really aren't just going to even acknowledge that its over or that they still plan to do it. Just any sort of announcement please, that's all I'm asking for.

  • I'm just poking this again, can we get any sort of official statement on the status of the cosmetic contest? Even if its just a confirmation that it isn't happening this year?

  • Man more and more time, makes me lose hope that its ever going to happen. Devs probably just wanted to silently kill the whole contest, which sucks. At least I wish they would make some public announcement how they aren't doing it this year.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

They should have a thread where contestants post their submissions for us to see like they did in the ye olden days. They should also select 4 cosmetics, one male and one female for each role. They should also do an honorary selection and give us this made by CerreD on Reddit:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/KO4L58F1NED1/img-4309.png

Yeah I would love it if they were to break it up into more categories, though I'd be sastified if they just added an icon and banner category for this year. If we do it this year. I'm still unsure if they just decided to not do it for this year.

  • @BlightedDolphin said:

Australia can't enter them anyway so it's no different for me :(

yeah that does suck that it was limited, though maybe they can change that if it continues in the future

  • @100PercentBPMain said:

Meh. Feel like the survivor skins that get pushed are mostly the trashy ones so I don't think it'd much of a loss

Yeah, but still, I want to be able to submit my killer skin design for this year :(

  • @Quizzy said:

Meh. Community design contest is pretty boring and predictable tbh. I swear it's the same type of survivors that win. Only female survivors. Wouldn't be surprised if Sable wins if they choose the winner

I mean, I hope that isn't always the case in the future if they continue doing it, but yeah I really wish female survivors didn't always win the contest. Still, at least on the killer side that there's some variety (even if Clown did win twice).

A matchmaking system doesn't make it a ranked system.

The previous matchmaking system, ranks, had a visible value and made it very clear who it was matching you with. That old system was more "ranked" than the current one.

But those ranks still exist? You can still get up to Iridescent 1 and whatnot. Nothing has changed in that regard. Now there is an added invisible rank value in the background that determines who you get paired with. That's what a ranked matchmaking system is, regardless if its visible or not to the person.

Look, I'm not gonna argue on this point any further, just because that isn't the point of this thread, just that SBMM sucks.

The only mode available is casual. DBD has no ranking system.

If you want even more casual than what's currently available, then you can set up custom games.

This is just untrue. SBMM has been a known feature for a while and its what determines how you get paired up with other people.

The only mode available is wholly determined by this matchup, and yet players have no option to opt in or out of it since, as you said, its the only mode available.

  • @Smoe said:

Bringing rank based matchmaking back is a piss poor solution as it only brings back all the issues it had that people complained back in the days about it, an alternative matchmaking is what is required.

yeah like I said, I would be fine with just another permanent mode that's just like a "casual" mode or whatever.

  • @DyingWish92 said:

Yeah the SBMM is horrible. I miss old ranks. Even though old ranks were broken at times to. I remember being a green rank killer and going up against 4 red rank survivors a few times and getting absolutely bullied to death when I was new at the game.

yeah like I said even though you would get games like this (which obviously sucked, don't get me wrong), I would personally take those days over now because I still had a lot of fun games in-between the 7-8 blink nurse games.

  • @Peanits said:

First, I just want to make it absolutely clear that this is not intended to 'solve tunneling'. This change is solely to make the perk provide more consistent value when it activates, not bring an end to the entire tunneling playstyle. I wouldn't recommend approaching this with the idea that it will end tunneling entirely as that is not the purpose behind the change - you would be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Secondly, regarding disabling Killer powers: I see this getting suggested a lot, but this is not an option. It's one of those things that sounds really simple on paper, but once you start drilling down into it, it turns out to be a whole can of worms. Each Killer power works differently from one another, and there is no one-size-fits all solution that can apply to all of them. Each power would need to be considered on a case by case basis to determine what should happen when they're 'disabled'.

For example, even if you disable the Killer's power button to stop The Nurse from blinking, there are multiple Killers who may already have traps set up around the map - would these also need to be disabled, or are they okay since they were already there? Some Killers also have passive powers/mechanics, such as The Cenobite's Chain Hunt, which would also need to be considered. It would also limit the possibilities for future Killer powers since we would always need to worry, "But how would it work if it was disabled by this one specific perk?"

To be frank, this would be unsustainable. With over 30 Killers in the game and more on the way, having special conditions for each one would require far too much ongoing support just to make that condition feasible. To give an real example from the past, the original version of Tinkerer used to increase the effectiveness of all charge speed add-ons. Even with only a handful of Killers in the game at the time, it ended up being very confusing for players to keep track of which add-ons it could affect, a nightmare to balance because those add-ons could be too strong with the perk or too weak without it, and an unreasonable amount of work to upkeep as the game grew. In the same way, this would require quite a bit of additional work to be done for every Killer just to support one perk. It's one of the reasons that perks typically don't interact with powers, and the few that do are gradually moving away from that (e.g. Adrenaline waking up Survivors).

Don't get me wrong, it's a neat idea and the intention behind it is good, but it's way outside the scope for a single perk and could quickly turn into a confusing mess.

Hi Peanits, I think I agree with you for the most part here, I suppose I just have one question for you.

Have you seen the discussion with Nurse and Blight losing all their tokens specifically upon a stun? Not just a DS stun specifically, but any stun. I think that would solve some of the gripes people have about not only those killers being OP, but the fact that DS feels useless against them because those killers can just catch back up immediately, even with the buffed stun time. They are the best killers too at tunneling, without a doubt.
