So when are we going to finally start addressing killers with terrible interactivity?

I'm talking about the likes of Spirit who are terrible from an accessibility stand point, like I don't care if you need to buff her or whatever to make up for it. Why does she NEED headphones to play as and against, not to mention people using 3rd party software to change audio just so they can hear survivors more clearly.

It feels like it's been swept under the rug for like years and years. Like you go after Judgement for that reason yet you don't apply it to older killers EVER.

it's just a rant coz it makes no sense to me, I love this game to pieces but there is just some stuff which will never not be frustrating to play as and against in the game.

  • Yeah I've seen a lot of people mention that Spirit should have had like footsteps in power (maybe like dirt getting kicked up) rather than sound cues when she launched. I think that change could still be made while keeping the sound cues everyone is used to by now, and they can balance it out by making her recharge and speed addons partial basekit or something.

She was going to have it added when they made her sound directional, It's already possible with grass etc, Make it more consistent its not too much she moves at 7m/s there is no excuse for it.

Even with visibility it's basically a dash which synergises with m1 perks, especially with the STBFL buff again.

  • I'm worried that spirit would require some of her addons un nerfed because she would be required to bulldoze survivors with sheer numbers again because she'd be impossible to lose to otherwise. So I'm not sure what needs to be done for the survivor end for the hearing impaired.(accessibility aside, Spirit is one of the more fair and well balanced killers we have)

on the killer end we should definitely bring back Father's Glasses that addon was a staple for deaf people and imo I preferred facing Father's Glasses compared to Dried Cherry Blossom.

the tell doesn't need to be like obvious small dust clouds which are every now and then would still be hard to track, but just throw people a bone who are maybe arent running headphones

I think it's necessary to make her a very well designed killer, whatever we need to compensate her with

  • Don't talk about my girl that way!

    She's perfect!

    😍

  • I think this would be an incredibly good thing in general… there are a handful of killers who's powers feel outright bad to deal with at all, and they're mostly towards the bottom of the killer tierlist anyway (Spirit is an exception) but I have always found that The Plague is the peak example of a design that just sucks, and it's not even like it sucks because its so oppressive or hard to deal with, it actually just isn't fun or engaging… throwing up the entire game, lots of perk builds rendered entirely useless, the MMR scoring idea of the game effectively being a FFA despite being a 4v1 also means many people cleanse at times that destroy the team, and so on down the list… the design is just bad, I think part of a killers health and status should also maintain that they are engaging in a good way for both sides to interact with. that doesn't mean that they need to be super weak or super strong either, just actively engaging for both sides win or lose.

People hate spirit for the same kind of reason, it's hard to be content with being outplayed when her spatial audio is so difficult to pick up on, especially in certain situations or for hearing impaired people. so overall, he power just feels bad to deal with as a survivor.

The Clown is this way as well, and the clown is horrible, near the bottom of the killer tierlist. His power is not only bad, but its also just something that feels bad to deal with as a survivor… "Man I love Pre Dropping and Holding W", The Knight is horrible and uninteractive in the same way… or the once infamous and now terrible and still mostly disliked Skull Merchant who was just built a round proxy camping and 3genning… that's a design based on tedious and annoying parts of the game that stall an otherwise engaging game out unnecessarily. but then on the other end you have generally respected and fun killers that most people engage positively with like The Hillbilly, Springtrap, Wesker, Xeno, etc…

I don't even care if a killer is S or F tier personally, I care if their mechanics are fun to engage with as a survivor, regardless of whether I am winning more or losing more against them.

  • judgement is an broken killer players are getting 4ks in 1 minute

  • I personally don't mind if a killer is fun to play against as I like variety such as Hag mindgames, crouching whips, Remnant 50/50s, ect. Not a huge fan of dash/ranged slop every game. I really do care if killers are accessible which is why it sucks to play this game without audio and get destroyed by a multitude of killers. I mean many killers already have changes like this such as Houndmaster's animations showing she's in dog mode by her moving her hand across her face, or the dogs eyes turning yellow.

Also note: I do not know if this is a bug, however there is a slight delay between whenever spirit starts phasing and when the power becomes directional, because of this short loops are quite literally unplayable.

if its a 4k in a minute im going to go ahead and say thats a survivor problem

I think this is just because she's still so new, people are still doing things that are directly bad against her so often that it's hard to be accurate about how good or bad she is rn

she has directional audio which back in the day was the reason why she went from s to a

  • Spirit does not need headphones to play. She is better with headphones, but she does NOT need them. I play Spirit on my TV with no headphones and don't have a problem.

  • If you read above I literally say that, but she needs more, I think she'd still be good even with a way to help visually track her a little. It's just creating an obstacle for people who may not be able to hear her as well as others one reason or another.

if she struggles then all the reason to buff her to compensate but this should be done to help people, it's no different to dredge making noise and audio tells despite making it hard for you to see also.

We need to do more for dated design

Tbf the mmr was reset and now everything is just skewed like my teammates don't even understand what a pallet is I think launching a new chapter plus resetting me in the same instance was a bad idea

Maybe reset will be a norm from now on?

For me seems like mmr completely turned off

  • Oh, that..

Those accessibility and quality of life changes started to be slowly removed once the game went F2P on other platforms, such as Epic or elsewhere.
You could say, that we can't have those accessibility options because the game is currently balanced around competitive portions of the playerbase. As much as I hate admitting that I am half deaf myself, it is unfortunately necessary that no one's gonna hold my hand and help me with the difficulties that I face because of that.

I've used to play Spirit when I wasn't half deaf, but when it happened.. Yeah, no.
I can't hear what's going on from left side and behind me, no matter what do I do. I do hear some annoying sounds, but my brain doesn't register them as sounds, and as such I can't play Spirit properly whatsoever.

The problem at hand is, those accessibility features are in a direct conflict with the themed and on-going competitive integrity.
And that competitive integrity isn't going away anytime soon due to the game having implemented SBMM system already.

You can't have anyone judging individual cases for people with disadvantages such as myself. It's impossible.
And you can't offer anyone any in-game advantages because then there exists the common argument that „if they can have it, then I wanna have it aswell!“

I've also wondered why they chose a killer release to do this, and a complicated killer at that. MMR reset should have been a midchapter.

This is exactly what I mean though, they could make her more accessible to play AS and AGAINST and the game would be far better off with it. She should be more accessible for those that really enjoy the character.

It's about time we start updating the game to be not like super hand holdy but more accessible for all, even if it's like just slight kicks in the dirt thats every now and then or moving fog etc.

I'm hoping that's what they are aiming to do in the new version of the game.

I personally don't believe that it's possible to provide any accessibility features that wouldn't lead to be a direct positive or negative balance adjustments.
It makes sense to me why nothing's really been done, and I'm not expecting anything anytime soon, because.. Yeah, I've covered that up in my initial reply.

That being said, let me get back to the feature of dirt being kicked around - Dirt or dust, eh.
They've recently showcased somewhat of what they plan to bring into the game, such as way more polished animations for hooked survivors, rain drops on the ground, and so many more.. I do see it as somewhat realistic for the dirt to be included in that aswell, but we will have to see.

The technology is most certainly up to date to allow for that, but the question lies in the optimization (let's not forget that Dead by Daylight has hundreds of chapters nowadays), and so there comes the question if the code can even handle it, as well as if the ordinary player can afford the required hardware to play the game in the future.
