Don't prioritize graphics in the future updates!

Am I alone in thinking it was terrible news to learn that Behavior is prioritzing another graphics update for future releases? The game looks fine, and we don't need worse performance in the future. Not to mention if you're updating all of the character models to be on par with Metahumans, does that mean you're going to re-design all of the outfits to match? What the heck for? I'd much rather more unique outfits and new maps and more content than a facelift. It just makes me think the devs don't understand what people play the game for. It's NOT cutting edge visuals, and I feel like it's going to be super deterimental in the long run.

  • i mean.. the graphic reworks were just the best way for the anniversary to showcase what they are working on but they have confirmed its an (almost) complete overhaul of the whole game, code basis, etc and wont just be a graphical update

And the game does look dated, and the last graphical rework while technically an Update lost so much of the original vision..

  • Agree. Graphics in this game are already pretty good, and I don't want to have to get another new PC just to run it. Guess I could just lower settings though.

I really think instead of a whole graphics overhaul, a coding overhaul is more needed to streamline the game, make the code easier to manage, fix bugs and inconsistencies that frustrate players, and eliminate cheating once and for all.

I disagree strongly they are awful, survivor shoulders collapsing, faces breaking, animations in general look bad, faces don't even look anywhere near their likeness. Dwights torso is 2x longer than it should be, male survivor arms are short. Maps like swamp etc exist where they just look outdated.

You just need to play any other modern game to see it's awful rn,

Btw scalability is a thing you guys, it might be easier to run than you think.

  • They're not prioritizing a graphics overhaul, they're doing practically a rewrite of the entire game's code, which has been sorely needed for a decade. I think BHVR is just taking advantage of the coding rewrite to overhaul the graphics, as the new code may require new models, and definitely allows for more complex visuals.

I also think this game majorly needs a graphical update. The game is a decade old, and started out as a small project by a small dev team, it didn't start out with AAA graphics, and the last "graphical update" they released 6 years ago, made the game look slightly more modern, but still way behind other PvP games while eliminating a lot of the atmosphere. Honestly, there are a lot of times where, even on Ultra graphics, I still think the game looks like it was from before 2016. Other big PvP games that have been around for similar or even longer amount of times (such as Overwatch or CS:GO) either have more visually abstract designs to cover their age, have already overhauled their graphics, or both. If DBD wants longevity it needs this upgrade, not to mention that a lot new players may decide against playing the game if after 12 years it still looks like it's from 2016.

As for performance, I really hope that with all the coding rewrites we can finally have modern DLSS and FSR support. As of now, the FSR and XESS implementations must be ancient because from what I (and a lot of the community) can tell it does next to nothing. Hopefully we can finally have some decent graphics settings as well instead of just Low, Medium, High, and Ultra for everything. Having the ability to adjust different settings like shadows, textures, and reflections would allow everyone to be able to optimize their game for the fps and visuals that they want. I hope they are also able to optimize the game, as currently, even with 2016 graphics, there have been many times where the game has just become more and more difficult to run over time, and this is a great opportunity to remove that bloat. Maps are small like many other PvP games, but we don't even need the possible 360+ fps you can get in those other games because DBD isn't an FPS, so it should be plenty doable.

Yeah, but why? What a complete waste of time. The game is fine as it is. I'd much rather new content than a facelift.

  • lol. No, the new code does not require new models. That's now how game design works.
It's most likely that they have a team of artists that like when things look pretty. I like a good looking game too, but it just doesn't make sense to overhaul the visuals when this game isn't about visuals to begin with. It's like if Stardew valley decided to remake the game in 3D or something. At that point, just make a sequel. But I guess they don't want to risk a sequel.

It's no Call of Duty, but this game looks just as good as CS2. And Behavior still isn't a proper AAA studio. They're AA at best. I just don't think that making the characters all look like Metahumans is gonna be worth the effort. On top of which it means they're going to have to remake all of the clothing assets too. With all the time they spend doing that, we could have a second game's worth of new content in the current graphical style.

I just think if you're playing DBD, you're not the type of gamer to be caring about high end graphics. Sure, there's outliers everywhere, but I don't think the average DBD player cares.

  • I think a graphical update would be amazing as it makes it feel more real and immersive and horror like as currently it feels a lot more cartoonish. Whilst I do love the unique art style for Dead By Daylight I think a graphical update would boost the player count a bit and increase longevity since it'll be able to compete with newer horror games a bit more.

Yeah, but why? What a complete waste of time. The game is fine as it is. I'd much rather new content than a facelift.

You still get new content though? Its a completely different Team working on it. And it even comes with new content as well (weather dynamics eg which could also impact new content like perks that are weather dependent)

And you might be fine with the current graphics but many people have been commenting that it does look dated (and objectivley comparing it to other current games confirms that it does) and the creators of the game seemingly want to do it…

Also, hopefully it will still be more resource efficient due to better code basis.

  • I would also say that the graphics look dated. The thing is, if it would have been the classic DBD-style, I would not have a problem with dated Graphics, but it just isnt. In 2026 DBD really looks outdated and it looks way too ugly for how much system requirements it needs.

The only concern I have is that with the new graphics the game might not run smoothly on machinery which should be able to run the game. But I hope with the new coding that this does not happen.

  • how can you actually look at current dbd and say it looks totally fine.

Maybe I worded that poorly, I'm suggesting that with new, more complicated models (whether for survivors, killers, objects, etc) BHVR's possibilities with their new code go up. Either way, this graphical update will be needed at some point either way if they want the game to keep going, and having a DBD 2 would just split the playerbase between the two games (which is why both Overwatch 2, although it's now just Overwatch again, and CS:2 replaced their previous iterations. And both of these games had also been around a long time and got overhauls).

because by essentially remaking the game they can create a better running and working game. this is an engine that most of the original devlopers are no longer involved with and this game is incredibly hard to work on with its limitations and rough code.

graphics obviously part of it, but its really about creating a game that has an engine that the company understands and can properly work on more effectively

I think it's a decent approach to getting the game on a better track. I have been of the idea for a while that the game needs redoing from the ground up so more can be made with the game and the graphic rework seems to be a good place to do it.

New look, look feel, new code. A proper fresh start.

(Also Xeno, Dredge, Unknown and Krasue mori in the heavy rain PLEASE BHVR I NEED THIS)

Because I don't play the game for the visuals. It doesn't look like an Unreal Engine 5 games, but it doesn't need to. It's completely functional for what it is. There's a ton of games that look on par with DBD visually and are still fun to play.

I have no idea why you're making any connection between the art assets and the code. Are you trying to suggest that new graphics means that it will motivate them to make the code better? I definitely agree we don't want a DBD 2.

Whoa this is old. What I was saying here is that DBD was created in UE3. The models and the code it was built on are practically ancient right now, resulting in very limited skeletal models of the characters and the devs running into limitations of what they can do with the game. For example, the Judgment mori had to be changed from what was voted on because the devs realized they literally could not do it with the models made in game. I think more complex models allows for less limitations

  • I'm still playing in Low graphic settings without Antialias & I'm glad these options are still available in 2026 & personally I will use them as long as I can.

they still want to limit the content in any Single update as they just confirmed they don’t want bigger perk or other changes in chapter updates with New Killers as that would lead to not enough Feedback etc.

Also, different devs work on different stuff, you wouldnt want people that specialize in creating new assets to work on new gameplay features

they are also always working on stuff on the side that never make it into the Game nor PTB and we never hear about it. Of course that also takes up time. And kinda needed to bring the game forwards. Gotta look a little deeper.

  • I'm just hopeful that the graphical overhaul will fix a problem I have with a lot of different characters' hair looking terrible, especially on many male survivors. The code rewrite might also enable BHVR to add in highly requested features like an accessory toggle, and should (read: SHOULD) lessen the amount of bugs and poor optimisation from which DBD consistently suffers.

  • Hopefully the graphical update won't take away some of the personality of the survivors. You could already see this on Claudette, where her teeth no longer show slightly in her resting face model.

DbD doesn't need to look lifelike, but graphic fidelity does appeal to new players. I am looking forward to the weather system the most.
