Apparently pallet saves randomly just *don't work*

Just found out in a match that you can just swing as a killer to avoid a pallet stun entirely, even if the sound still plays and it's well timed (the killer is already done with the animation). As long as you swing at the right time it's like it never happened, and now oops not only does the killer still have the survivor, but you might be injured from the swing, and you wasted a (potentially important) pallet. I don't remember this ever being in the game before I stopped playing like a year ago so I'm assuming it's some sort of bug, but that is actually so stupid. To give players a mechanic and then just say "it just doesn't work sometimes, too bad" is insane. There may be a bunch of other issues that need to be fixed but this is also dumb and needs to be fixed.

  • Sounds to me more like this happened. He went to try to stun the killer from the side of the pallet the killer was blocking with his hitbox. The killer heard him coming was ready to swing to get off the pallet to the same side. Killer hits the survivor gets injured killer moves away from the pallet with the swing and as the survivor now after getting injured can run through the killer hits the pallet down after the killer was not anymore on it. Him saying he heard the sound could be him just thinking he did or maybe it played on his end but on server killer was not on the pallet stun area anymore.

Some people still has not got that you should not try to drop the pallet from the side the killer is on anymore after they fixed the clipping into killers hitbox that survivor could do for a long time. Got normalized because it was so long bugged. I still see people trying it and just running into the killers hitbox.

You're entire message is basically "he's hallucinating, this entirely different thing was actually what happened," without actually having been there or seen anything: not helpful. I did hear the sound and it clearly dropped on top of the killer's head as they swung (not before, so they were out of animation, and it was before they got out of the pallet). I checked ping and it was pretty normal. I asked the killer in end game afterwards and he was the one who said it definitely should have stunned him but he swung which if you time it right, cancels the save. That led to me looking it up and finding out it has happened to other people as well. The killer literally called it a tech of sorts

You can claim what you want I gave estimate of what happened. You stating something does not make it a fact and I have had people tell something happened then show video that literally shows totally different thing happening. People don't always know what happened and remember stuff wrong thats why the other guy asked for a video as currently we have your statement that in reality is not really prove of anything.

Also the killer is wrong the reason why people swing on those is to move away from the pallet as it makes you move faster. Thats why people swing on pallets I have never seen it to cancel any stun and I have played this game a long time.

You could also report this to the bug reports in betahub with the logs of the match so devs can check if this is indeed a bug.

  • I am well aware of the very basic principle that killers swing out of pallets because lunging is faster than walking, as probably most people are on this forum considering you would only come here if you are already passionate about the game. The killer was not wrong, they didn't say that was the reason they swung out of the pallet, they said that was the reason they didn't get stunned. There's a difference. This is also something I vaguely feel like I remember hearing in a content creator's video before. And despite me not having a clip of my own experience, it's clear you didn't take time to look it up for yourself (like I said you can easily do) or even look at the posts I linked which were literally just the first two results on a google search, both being from the last 8 months.

You don't only have my statements, you are just saying "I didn't see it so it didn't happen" without taking 5 seconds to make a google search. If every time someone reported a bug they would require video evidence before anybody even tried to see if anyone had had a similar experience, even if dozens or hundreds of people reported the same thing, bug fixing would become a much slower process.

Without seeing both povs it's hard to tell, but I would actually assume it's just badly syncronized. The killer pov is usually the one the game accepts as the truth.

So my assumtion is that the killer swung out and was already out of range on his screen, the game likes to take the killers pov so he wasn't in range for the game, the survivor pov in this case was that he still was in range and played the sound but then rolled back because the game said "nope wasn't in range".

It kinda sounds like the same like hitting a survivor through a stun, getting the scream and blood, but still not the hit.

Well knowing dbd I'm also not saying that there couldn't be a bug regarding this, but the desync-issue regards almost everything in this game so I would say that's more likely what happened.

(Sorry for any spelling mistakes or weird sentences, I'm german xD)

    You can't lunge while carrying.

The only logical reason to do it is to try and hit the person pallet saving if they are in front of you, but experienced killers will do it anyway because there's always the SLIGHT chance they hit the tick perfect swing to cancel the pallet stun and you lose nothing by simply trying but stand to gain a lot.

This is a bug that has been in the game for a very long time where you can cancel any pallet stun if you START an action on the same tick you would be stunned. It's not consistent enough to do every time, and I'd say it's quite rare so it's not a huge issue BUT that is the main reason experienced killers auto m1 if they think a pallet save is coming; there's a small chance the game just insta cancels it.

Honestly my reason is more to gain a bit of distance to be out of range. I didn't even know it can cancle the stun, but I know for sure that there are enough people that simply drop too late and I'm out of range then xD

So this is for sure a bug, that is so weird

  • 100% and it is not limited purely to pallet saves

For example, you can trigger this bug on some killers if you somehow time certain actions in time with the server's 'tick'. E.g Slinger aiming down sights or Oni triggering his blood fury. I've seen it happen

In a nutshell, if two things occur at the same time on a tick - it's like the game can't decide or cancels one of the inputs. I'm no expert on stuff like this but I'm pretty sure this is what's happening.

I am not talking about lunging but the momentum you get from just by pressing M1 while carrying a survivor. Killer does not stay still when you hold forward and do m1 while carrying survivor they will move forward. That is the main reason why killers m1 after they pick up survivors from pallets to try to avoid the pallet stun as the m1 hit will give them faster speed temporarily than the normal carrying speed. Killers normal carrying speed is 3.68 m/s so 90% of normal movement speed and when the m1's while carrying that speed becomes 5.52 m/s for 0.3 seconds. Killer will move about a meter with that swing enough to get out of the way of the pallet. They will suffer the hit cooldown if it was hit on survivor or missed hit cooldown but they are not anymore under the pallet to be stunned or dodged it.

And what is this? There is no pick up and that is not even anyway the same. That is latency between survivor, server and killer and what happened first on things that are happening about the same time. On killers side that it shows it looks like he was meant to be stunned. On survivors side and server side it most likely went more like survivor dropped the pallet before the killer started the lunge and so was not on the area that would cause the stun. Latency and lag causes that kind of things time to time nothing special in there.

Honestly I didn't see it since ages that I wasn't stunned by a palette, I just see a lot that I get stunned a meter away, sometimes even over corners behind a wall. It's pretty impressive to see that.

But I agree that the pickup things from the start was most likely ping.

The only time killer is not stunned by a pallet is when they are in the pickup animation or if they are already stunned by something else. Special case for Nurse that is in her fatigue after blink as that is considered a stun state. I have seen many reports on Betahub of people stating that blinded did not drop a survivor or pallet stun did not work and so far have not seen any video that showed that it happened. They usually are millisecond timing errors where killer is just not out of the pickup animation. Like I am totally open if someone would come with good video that shows that it did not work and maybe way to reproduce it but so far they all have been like I stated earlier people missing the window by milliseconds or even more.
