Are we heading towards perk bloat?

Basically what perk bloatware means is a abundance of perks and then the old or new perks overshadows the already existing perk or the new perk.

How can this be solved?

  • No cause most perks are useless or overrated. Even the so called "meta" perks are highly overrated. Both sides freak out whenever a K/S gets a true meta perk so we're forever stuck with mediocre perks.

  • I think the game has had perk bloat for years.

They need to move towards having one or two learnables per character, weaker perks should get buffed or even merged together to make less perks, but more viable ones.

The current way they do it with three perks we will continually have perk bloat.

  • We are getting some unique perks in the new ptb, so I'm hopeful we'll get more interesting powers as time goes on for both killer and survivor.

That said I love 2v8 for its simplicity sometimes, it's a welcome variety.

The new hex is literally twack (skull merchant perks, however it's spelled) and the one with haste on blind and stun... The haste on blind is similar to shadowborn.

Survivor perks, the permanent charges is like fast track for healing, the haste perk is budget lithe with no exhaustion and picking up the pallet ability (stun the killer in shack and vault back to pick up the shack pallet and vault speed to not get hit or lithe cuz those two perks can stack, pretty strong imo).

Not really that unique I would say.

The pallet vault perk is unique, there is nothing like that on surv side? and perma healing charges is new too

he has a perk like secret project that works well enough on its own, I love the idea of stealth in endgame, sounds terrifying.

I'm excited to try them, I love entity themed survivor perks

I just wish they would stop nerfing everything into oblivion before they even leave the PTB. While it gives data, the PTB doesn’t utilize matchmaking when creating a lobby. It’s not reliable data.

Fog vials being nerfed into “never use” status 2 weeks after a new item released after 9 years was very disheartening. This stuff also happens on the killer side, but I feel like that is one of the most egregious decisions recently.

Yet they leave Ghoul as is for nearly 2 years, wooo /s

  • Not "perk bloat" per-say, more "perk redundancy" than anything... They are now so creatively bankrupt they bring out "new" perks that are just 2 perks combined, like vees ghost notes or kwons five moves ahead.

I feel the perks are a symptom of the fact the game engines running out of room for fresh ideas. idk if the game is trapped in licence hell but we need dbd 2 the killers and perks are stagnating

Chapters should stop having multiple survivors. One killer and one survivor limit. Frankly, I wouldn't have an issue with one or two perks per character moving forward, as well.

  • We are WAY beyond Perk bloat. Thats why Five Moves Ahead exists even though Windows does pretty much the same thing, they are running out of ideas for perks so they make perks that are a carbon copy of another perk but with a little bonus added to it. They either lack the courage and creativity to make up new ideas or they are just fine with most of the new ones being mediocre and keeping the meta stale.

My belief is that the devs just don't have much design space to work with. Over 10 years of content and adding new perks, there's not much to explore with DBD's limited points of interaction that hasn't been done already. Since BHVR avoids changing up the game's formula, there's not much new that could be done.

  • need more perks to play with them, 4 is just too low

The perk system needs a complete rework, and they need to stop adding new ones. At least in my opinion.

We're just getting redundant perks more often than not, with annoying prerequisites.

That probably means they need to rework how they sell DLC too.

  • This game has been suffering not only from perk bloat but overall content bloat for a long time. Most old content is probably never going to get touched again because BHVR don’t have the resources to work on anything that doesn’t directly bring in new revenue. The amount of content in the game makes it extremely overwhelming for new players and it’s why it takes thousands of hours to get any good at it.

  • There are too many perks but most are crap, and anytime a perk that's useful comes into existence it gets screamed about until it also becomes crap. Even when we get new perks that gets used, like Five Moves Ahead or Turn Back the Clock, they're just different variations of stuff we already have.

If anything, what we have is stagnation, and that's mostly because this community hates change and the devs cave to their outcries.
