Why I Want Jason More Over Darth Vader

I know many people have talked about this topic before. And has been debated quite a bit lately. So I’ll start with at first I thought Vader in the game would be kind of cool. However my opinion has changed since.Well just the thought of Darth Vader joining the fog before Jason is wild to me and others.

Only because getting Jason into the game would be a huge gift to honor fans. Especially since he’s one of the most iconic slashers of all of time. Another reason is Darth was made for family space adventure and fantasy. Rather than horror. And having Darth in to Dead By Daylight would not work.

I mean sure Star Wars does has some horror elements to it. But Vader isn’t really made for horror like I mentioned. Where Jason on the other hand is a way better fit to dead by daylight. Considering the game was somewhat inspired by Friday The 13th its self.

Edit: You can disagree with me all you want and that’s fine. I’m just sharing my thoughts and opinions like everyone else on here.

  • It's cool to honor the horror genre, but… he's just so boring. He's literally the generic slasher movie killer. The poster boy of it, some would say.

Genuinely what can you do for him that would make him cooler to have than DARTH VADER, and not even just cooler. But unique enough to justify his existence.

What skills do Ghostface or Michael have? They're also just guys with knives. It's the way they behave that informed their power. Even non typical characters like Pyramid Head have a power half made up for DBD, Springtrap does too.

What made Chucky special? Him literally being 3 feet tall was the selling point, is that really 'justify this inclusion' unique? How about Leatherface? He's a guy with a chainsaw, just using it differently from the other guy with a chainsaw.

Other licensed characters? Freddy and Nemesis' power aren't even liked by a very vocal portion of their fan bases. Neither was Xenomorphs. Their unique attributes only lead to a feeling something was missing from their kits.

Dracula had plenty of unique abilities at his disposable, and they all manifested in ways we had already seen from other killers powers.

I get just not finding Jason interesting, it's not like anyone is going to make you hyped for the 4th or 5th masked murderer if you just don't have any attachment to the source material, but I always find it weird when people say "what would he even do" cause the game is literally built for him.

All the DNA that makes up DBD is built off the culture established and embodied by films like F13, his name justifies his inclusion the same way it did basically everyone else who got in.

There used to be a couple of "community consensus" powers I would see for certain Killers, Alien and Jason being most prominent, where seemingly most people could agree:

    • The Xenomorph should have some kind of stance swap between crawling and walking upright. (which did actually happen, but in a very boring way tbh. I honestly don't like that crawler mode is a straight upgrade to upright mode and a half decent Alien will never be seen outside of crawler)
    • Jason should be the Killer who gets to wield alternate weapons rather than being stuck with the machete. He has a huge improvised arsenal across his source material, he should be constantly changing what he does to adapt to the weapons he has on hand.

The idea of a "slasher sandbox" has never been tried in DbD before, even though it's arguably a core element of older slasher movies, and trying to replicate it was a huge part of Naughty Bear's design. I think not only is there room for a power for Jason, I think BHVR have left that room open deliberately.

i mean it's also possible that'll get playtested out of existence because it's "not fun" and he'll just be a triple dash Wesker without an infection mechanic that might be okay too i guess

  • There are so many iconic horror characters from films and games, that are still missing. Id take a bunch of them over someone like Darth Vader.

Who's gonna be the survivor? Jar-Jar?

  • Theres a few reasons why i am not particularly excited about jason possibly joining.

And i get that he's not only a big deal for dbd but the biggest, as its similar to vampire survivors when they got the castlevania collab, the franchise that inspired their game, acknowledging them and even putting their franchises characters into the inspired game. But..

    • Jason's theme has been in the game since the beginning. Trapper has alredy made the game feel like theres been a jason themed killer all this time. So its like getting hyped over trapper 2.0 as itl clearly be the improvement. And itl feel like completing the old og slasher collection thats been sitting on the shelf for a decade missing 1 more piece.
    • Some have alredy had a taste of what playing a game with jason as the killer would feel like, with the friday the 13th game. It also had better gameplay, argueably better cosmetics, faster pace, and several ways to escape or leave others behind etc. So putting him in dbd might feel like a nerfed downgrade compared to all he was capable of in a game centered entirely around him (yet ironically inspired by dbd).
    • With all the licensing troubles surrounding jason, players have to wonder if he will even last in the game when myers and pinhead were alredy removed and it feels more like a question of when would he be removed rather than will he will be removed.
    • Whatever survivors would be added along with jason, wouldn't be very appealing. As most of the characters in f13 movies feel like cannonfodder random people placed there just for him to kill off during the movie. Some lasted more than 1 movie but the only one i even remember is tommy jarvis who i don't find to be that interesting either.

I'm gonna assume you're joking but in all seriousness if they want to pick just from Darth Vader's era… there is an egregious amount of survivor options. And if they want to expand outside of that? There's an even MORE egregious amount of survivor options.

I don't think it's not possible, and they very well could do your suggestion, but honestly… me personally it's not competing with Darth Vader.

  • No offense but, "I want Jason Voorhees in horror hall of fame crossover game Dead by Daylight over Darth Vader" is the coldest take I have ever heard.

I don't think there's really anybody who's clamoring for Vader. At best there's people who are just open to the idea.

  • The only cool thing I could see them doing for Jason, if it "is" him, would be having his ability make the floors all like ankle deep water and pulling survivors into the water to instantly hook them somewhere. Besides that he'd probably just play a lot like Myers or Ghost face and be a stalker that outside of their ability is an underwhelming m1 killer/stalker.

Vader is interesting idea but he would fell like cheap knock off of himself like some temu version(just like nemi feels in DBD compare to re games), jason fits more here and its someone who is awaited since the 2016 even the main poster guy is inspirated by him a lot (trapper).

Also Im not sure how star wars fans would react to see one of their most loved characters getting looped till daylight and bullyed by 4 megs with wooden pallets make from scraps.

  • Jason is the last icon that has not come to the game.

Vader can be horrific and has been several times in the visual media so far but he is not anniversary worthy addition.
