After 3 years, solo survivor has finally gotten miserable enough to make me uninstall for good

Solo survivor has always been a hit-and-miss experience, but it's just broken beyond measure lately. I know the devs keep making changes like longer hook stages and basekit anti-camp and HUD and such, but something about the survivor role seems to be completely damaged beyond repair specially in solo-q. In my 3 years of play, it's never been this hopeless. Teammates quit at the drop of a hat, there's a lot more killers going out of their way to just make survivor gameplay miserable, map changes of late are just inexplicably bad, and BHVR seems to be putting all SEA region players in the wrong servers, so ping is awful too. Survivor incentives in my region are at 100% pretty much all the time, except for like a 2 hour window at night. I've reached the point where bloodpoint incentives don't even matter, because wasting a Saturday night on such horrid, unfun gameplay feels like a punishment I'm inflicting upon myself for no reason.

Truthfully, I'm not sure what even is the fix to this. Survivors are entitled to kill themselves on 1st hook, killers are entitled to play the way they want. I think solo survivor is a genuinely unfixable problem. BHVR's incompetence with map design and server assignment doesn't help, but the root of the problem is that the same way a coordinated SWF can make a lone killer miserable, a determined killer can make an uncoordinated solo team miserable and solo-q teammates can (wittingly and unwittingly) make each other miserable. Solo-q isn't 4 survivors against 1 killer, it's every single player against everyone else. Nobody wins. There's so many better video games out there that don't require you to hope and pray that you'll get 1 fun 15 minute match after having to endure 5 horrendous, unfun matches in a row. I'm going to leave and play me some of those games, I'm grateful that tonight's godawful matches helped me finally end the abusive relationship I'd lately developed with this game

  • It's the matchmaking. I know it, you know it, they know it. It's not fun getting sweats every match as killer but never as teammates, even when you yourself are good and escape regularly. We've grown competitive as a community, even those who frankly don't know what they're talking about. People care about winning. So you can't just throw your hands up and make matchmaking random for the heck of it, or base its mechanics off of things that don't link to skill. If you saw a killer get 0 kills, you might assume "Wow, those survivors must be really good." when the reality is that the killer was equally good if not superior, and he just couldn't do anything because of the gen speed and map. 2 of those survivors could have gone down in chase in like 20 seconds, and the killer just didn't happen to chase them. You don't know, hence why kills and escapes by themselves don't really tell you anything, and in fact they give bad info because all you see is the result. There could be a bad killer who got destroyed all game and then got 3 kills with NOED. But you just see that he won, so he must be good and/or "overperforming," right? So the devs have a choice to address matchmaking or address balance, and they've chosen neither. The more pressing one is matchmaking, because that's where they're getting their bad balancing info from, just kills and escapes and nothing else. But they simply refuse to adjust it, which is why there's players on here every day complaining about entirely 1-sided matches back to back. I don't know what else to say.

Guy is complaining about Solo Q, and youre some how trying to make this into an Us vs Them thing.

Stop. It was cute at first but it gets old quick

  • I don't see any us vs. them, just a description of why matchmaking screws everyone over. It's messy and needs a reworking or some sort of working over, at least.

  • Solo queue sucks really badly just now. I can honestly say that I probably have 1 match out of 10 that I actually enjoy. Most of the games have at least 1-2 people DCing, even when it looks like we might win.

I feel solo queue has been neglected for so long now that the damage caused to the morale of the solo queue exclusive playerbase is damaged beyond repair. It's going to take a lot of work and time to change that rage quit mindset. It's very common in Killer games also. I would definitely say around 60% of my games people DC. Theres certain Killers that you can't even play with now because people just straight up refuse to play against.

I believe I talked about both side's issues. Matchmaking will never be a one-sided problem.

Yeah. I've never cared much for Skull Merchant, but I couldn't learn her if I wanted to, because there's nothing to play against. You get people who instantly give up, or teams who know exactly how to counter her and it's a 5-minute match. Other people give Nurse, Doctor, and Spirit the same treatment.

Or Wraith, Legion, Freddy, Twins, …

I've seen that happen for all killers.

  • I personally think the frequent tunneling is killing solo survivor experience. There's no point in playing when a killer decides to stack 4 slowdowns and hard tunnel someone out at 3-5 gens remaining. Tunneling early is too strong. You have players winning hundreds of games in a row. This shouldn't be a controversial topic.
