  There is only popup checkmarks now, the email checkboxes are gone for me.

  Can you remove the privacy from your profile to see if this reintigrates the e-mail checkboxes?

  Interesting... I'd guess the forum doesn't "see" your email therefore there's no option to be notified that way but I doubt it's possible...
