Spirit should be nerfed .

Title says it . She is the most annoying killer to go against , even prenerfed legion was way better than Rin right now , not to mention her broken addon (prayer beads)

@miaasma That's not what a mindgame is. If you have enough information to deduce the correct action for sure then it's a reaction. A mindgame has only 3 requirements:

A: Both players having unreliable information on each others next move

B: The other player having the ability to counter any given action you could reasonably take in the current situation

C: The other player not being able to counter all of your possible actions at the same time

When the spirit phases requirement A is always fulfilled. The spirit's body viably stops moving, this is unreliable information. And the survivors body disappears leaving you only with their last known location, also unreliable information. Scratchmarks are generally reliable but cleaver jukes can keep them from being totally reliable.

While B is not always fulfilled (for example if you are injured in the open) it often is for example if the Survivor is at a dropped pallet.

The reason why spirit is so good is because requirement C is nearly always fulfilled.

However ANY time all 3 requirements are met the action being taken is a mind game (or at least close enough to one mechanically)

More specifically it's a kind of mindgame refered to as WIFOM or Wine In Front Of Me, referencing the princess bride scene.

Here is the scene itself just for fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9TRMQwMNnY. Funnily enough it isn't an actual example.

a more detailed explaination of WIFOM: https://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=WIFOM

That explaination is geared towards mafia. But a lot of the same ideas still apply here.

The TLDR is that: These kinds of predictions always SEEM random, and if they were against a computer then they very much could be. However in reality it comes down to psychology and patterns. You start by predicting a spirit based on what most spirits have done, and then switch to predicting based on what that specific spirit actually has done as you go through chases.

i think you're misunderstanding. the scenario at a high wall pallet loop is not a reaction because if a killer plays it correctly a survivor actually cannot react in time to a tell, like seeing the killer around a corner or seeing the red stain. the survivor has to actually make a prediction based on how the killer plays. that's why those high wall loops (and LT walls for that matter) are some of the most skill based loops in the game, because they come down to outplaying the other player and aren't inherently busted structures. at the same time they aren't complete guessing games because you know where the danger zone at those loops is and can ready yourself for the killer to mindgame you

when you describe a reaction, you're actually kind of making my argument for me because that is what a spirit is doing during any given interaction with a survivor. little prediction is required because of how much information she already gets, compared to the none the survivor gets if they're in her terror radius

the information a spirit gets while phasing is not unreliable provided sounds are not broken. if the spirit misreads where the survivor is that's not a result of the information being shoddy, it's a result of the spirit misreading the situation and messing up; don't get me wrong, sometimes that's easy to do with nearby generators and other stuff making noise or botched scratch marks on certain maps, but the information is there

the survivor does not have any real opportunity to counter what a spirit is doing because they have nothing to base a response off of. you say a mindgame isn't a reaction but it has to be in part because otherwise it just becomes a guessing game. the best way to describe an interaction with a spirit is a guessing game, especially at a dropped pallet when you're in her terror radius. on the survivor's end, there is no indication of what she's doing, so you have to guess at when she's using her power, and then guess where she's going while in phase (as well as how fast she goes due to addons, etc.), all the while having 0 tells to go off of. and frankly i'd be okay with this if i had any idea of when she was using her power but again, there are zero cues for what that happens so you're forced to just guess

i do know what WIFOM is (i've played a lot of mafia) and while it's not a bad description of what's happening it's also not very applicable to this scenario because the person using it is also attempting to predict whether or not the other person is doing the same thing and the playing field is more or less even because both players have the same (little to none) information to work off of

spirit has too much information to work with while phasing for it to be considered a true WIFOM example, and this makes the scenario hugely unfair for the other person who is forced to make that guess. for how risky the scenario is for the survivor, the spirit isn't risking much at all because of her mid-phase cues, and this is what separates spirit interactions with the aforementioned high wall loops; killers aren't given cues for what survivors are doing at these loops and have to base their actions around how the survivor plays, just as the survivor has to do to the killer. this is closer to WIFOM than a spirit interaction. when i moonwalk a high wall tile as the wraith i'm not doing it as a response to anything, i'm doing it because i know the survivor can't see me or my red stain, but when i'm playing spirit at a dropped pallet i'm standing still to see what the survivor does, phasing in response, and then using mid-phase cues to locate them more accurately. it's not a mindgame

Not to mention that she suffers no consequence for misreading because there is no stun/vision loss like Nurse after using ability .

NO. All killers that aren't spirit, billy, or nurse need to be buffed. Survivors are supposed to be the weak, numerous role. That is not the case, They are the power role. And this game is ######### because of it. And SWF.

How many times you get 4k or 3k?

@SeducedByDaemonette The difference is that Spirit has a power recharge and Nurse has a fatigue. Both has some kind of a consequence. Spirit cannot always use her power and has to wait 15 seconds to use her power and is only a 110% movement speed.

Nurse has a short fatigue but can cause you to lose the survivors position. She can use her blink whenever she feels like it though.

Wow, they sure did tear you a new one to the point to where you had to call a fictional character braindead. Yikes. @miaasma

Anyway, in all seriousness, Spirit is perfectly fine. I'm not going to go into detail about it as i am sure all the other people who have played Spirit or main her to mains have pretty much said what we are all thinking. So thank you, especially to @vampire_toothy who seems to understand exactly how mechanics in the game works, and for totally dominating this debate.

Also, this forum is not filled with killer mains, i play survivor more than i do killer, @ScottJund i know plays survivor on some occasions my fellow Detective Tapp main @NMCKE plays survivor, the only person i know for a fact that only plays killer is TheEntityLefthand. This whole generalization of the whole forum being biased to one side is a complete and utter lie, and shows that those who make such a claim probably spend too much time watching their favorite survivor main streamer.

    @Detective_Jonathan

Yeah, Spirit is fine in my opinion, she's a flexible killer. You have to predict her playstyle, and adapt accordingly, which adds a very unique gameplay to her!

Imagine this scenario, you dropped a pallet and waited there for 5 seconds. She phases to the other side, and you suffer a hit from her. Now, after this happened a few times, you instead vault the pallet and outplayed her. It feels so good yet so balanced, it's amazing tbh!

Legion has both recharge and fatigue , I think spirit should have it too , give her 5 sec window to attack after phasing and then she gets fatigued .

Right now even if spirit doesn't hit you after phasing she can look around and keep chasing you , considering 110 % is not slow . It makes her nearly impossible to lose , cause if you run she will just follow your scratch marks and you get hit , if you don't run you won't be able to get far enough to lose her . Her power would've been balanced in it's current state if spirit had Shape's EWI movement speed .

  • @SeducedByDaemonette So basically you’re saying to make Spirit unplayable by having her movement speed at 103%? Myers can’t do ANYTHING in EW1. He is almost as slow as survivors are and is so helpless. It wouldn’t be smart for Spirit to be that damn slow.

110% is pretty slow. She is Huntress speed and we all know how helpless Huntress is without her hatchets.

Not every killer needs a fatigue. I guess while we are at it Hag and Billy should have a fatigue after their power too right? A fatigue doesn’t fit Spirit’s lore nor would it be smart for her gameplay wise. I’ve lost Spirit players who can’t track MANY times. It’s not that hard to do.

Billy has cooldown and bumpstun , Hag power works differently , she spends time planting traps . Your parallels are flawed . Spirit , just like Nurse , should be forced to use her power in order to catch survivor if it REMAINS IN ITS CURRENT STATE .

  • spirit should not have fatigue, that would gut her
