Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes the killer gets lucky. That's it.
And if the gates are at 12:00 and 6:00 the killer has "no chance".
They are randomly generated so some games RNG favors survivors, other games RNG favors killer. This is how it should be.
Survivors already have maps with guaranteed safe exit gates (The Game & Lery's Memorial)
Both sides should have a chance .

i dont think they have to be all the way on the other side, but a minimum distance would be nice.
