Hyperfocus should be the special skillchecks not stake out

Stake out had fine combos with stuff like corrective action, fogwise, medkit progression addons. It's major problem was only with hyperfocus. So coming into this patch they decided to nuke stake out removing it from all those combos. But also buffed this is not happening to fit the exact same niche because it raises greats by 30%. Seen people who never even use stake out maxing 5 greats because of how easy it is now. So can we just leave stake out as it was and put hyperfocus in its own bubble that cant be made more difficult by killer perks or easier by survivor perks. A true test of skill?

  • Stake Out is like a free Overcharge for the killer when you start repairing, if you have gained a token without realising. 14% generator regression and an explosion. Stake Out is now exactly the opposite of what it did before.

  • I really like the challenge that Hyperfocus provides when used by itself, I'd be sad to see it go if this were flipped around, and Hyperfocus wasn't an issue at all when not combined with Stake Out. While Stake Out did have some other synergies as you mentioned such as with Fogwise, ultimately between Stake Out and Hyperfocus, Stake Out was the perk that was actually limiting the design space, Hyperfocus wasn't.

  • One thought I'd had, though no idea if it's even feasible, is Hyperfocus only applied to Great Skill Checks that were hit in the Great check zone. Stake Out wouldn't matter then since legit Greats don't spend tokens and you still have to actually land the great.

Honestly the bigger problems with Stake Out now are

    1. It takes 15s of being near the killer to get you 4% that you have to hit a difficult skill check on
    2. You can waste that 4% on healing still which is infinitely less valuable
    3. It's not even based on TR anymore, you have to be within 24m. So basically you have to sniff the killers butt for it to do anything

The perk is terrible now, and now with This Is Not Happening, if anything, Hyperfocus got indirectly buffed because on decent players it's way more consistent.

  • The rationale for why they made this change in the dev notes makes sense for why it was Stakeout which got hit and not Hyperfocus.

Dev Note: Previously Stake Out put a limitation on design space, removing any difficulty from great Skill Checks.

I really appreciate dev notes like this as it makes total sense when you read it. They're not just trying to fix Hyperfocus/Stakeout, they're trying to prevent Stakeout from trivializing any future perks which have Great Skill Check activation requirements. Without doing this, any time they want to make another perk with a strong effect like Hyperfocus, they have to balance it around Stakeout.

Though then they make this is not happening make great skill check zones 30% bigger so.

This Is Not Happening is already 30% bigger on live, the change was that you don't need to be injured and the normal success zone is 200% bigger.

This is what the great skill check zone looks like at 30% larger. It helps but it's not the same thing as Stakeout making it into a guaranteed Great.

literally tough . Such an oversight to rework stakeout then buff this is not happebing to work at all times and make greats 30% bigger. So this is just a better hyperfocus stakeout combo now . On oc the great on this is not happening are free and gens can be cut in half.

Not better. Ive tried hyperfocus/this is not happening with no mither and the 9% faster repair while injured perk - as a build before. It does not make the greats 30% easier, just gives you a slightly higher chance to land on it depending on reaction time. You still have to hit the greats manually.

I really think the better route would making Stakeout give "Special Great Skillchecks" that could be used on weaker perks like Fogwise and Road Life.

The Perk as it is in the PTB is already weak having to stay within 24 meters of a killer while they have a terror radius and not in chase is too strict in my opinion. While the benefits are kinda weak anyway.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't biased though. I really enjoyed using it with Fogwise and seeing that combo gone is disappointing.

No, there is a reason nobody used This Is Not Happening - not because you had to be injured, but that 30% larger only makes a very small difference. The standard size of the Great Skill check area is 3% of the circle. This Is Not Happening makes it 4% of the circle, just a few extra pixels. Nothing like current Stake Out.

  • This might be a meme suggestion but hyperfocus thematically feels like the kind of perk that would allow you to do gens faster at the cost of being oblivious/blind hah.

Being so focused on working the gen that your character completely dissociates.

it is literally in the perk description . Try it on the ptb . Now you don't need to have a risk being injured . I can just sit on a gen and hit greats nonstop .

    Precisely.
I also tried this and hitting greats is much easier and consistent.
This change to This Is Not Happening can't go live.
