Concept: Fixing the gen-slowdown meta with a 10-minute trial floor (+ Trial Glyphs) Part two
Hey everyone, I’ve been playing this game for years and have clocked around 3,000 hours in the trial. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about game pacing, specifically how frustrating it is when matches fly by in literally 4 minutes. Right now, killers are practically forced to stack four slowdown perks just to have a chance to play the video game, which completely destroys perk variety and creativity.Instead of Behaviour constantly balancing individual gen speeds or nerfing slowdown perks every few months, what if we introduced a mandatory 10-minute trial timer before exit gates can be powered, keeping the core mechanics exactly the same? Here is how it would work without completely rewriting the loop:
- The 10-Minute Pacing Floor: Survivors do generators exactly like normal. However, even if a highly efficient team slams out all 5 gens in 4 minutes, the exit gate panels remain locked until the clock hits the 10-minute mark.
- Dynamic Trial Glyphs (Active Objectives): To give both sides a highly rewarding secondary objective, random Glyphs will spawn in hidden spots all over the map that can be interacted with at any point during the trial.
- The Mechanics: The trial will feature all the classic Glyph variants, and their difficulty depends on the specific Glyph type. For example, a Red Glyph is a simple interact-and-collect, whereas a White Glyph requires a survivor to safely carry a fragile pocket watch all the way to the basement without rushing or getting hit.
- Survivor Reward: Completing a Glyph awards massive bonus Bloodpoints and actively shaves time off the remaining 10-minute trial timer, giving survivors a direct way to speed up the gate lock. To help them out, as soon as the last gen pops, all remaining survivors see the aura of a random Glyph for 30 seconds.
- Killer Reward: Killers can also hunt down and interact with these Glyphs to earn bonus Bloodpoints and receive a temporary random buff (like a short speed boost or brief aura reading) based on the specific Glyph they completed.
- The Killer Control Switch (No Hostage Matches): To ensure a struggling killer isn't trapped and bullied by a toxic squad for 10 minutes, the killer can walk up to the exit gates at any point after the 5th gen pops and manually open them. Doing this instantly overrides the timer lock and starts the standard 2-minute Endgame Collapse, giving the killer a built-in option to just "go next."
- Endgame Perks Evolve: Perks like NOED, Blood Warden, or Remember Me would automatically light up during the final 3-4 minutes of the match or right at the 0:00 mark, ensuring late-game builds still get their intended value.
- The Hatch Rules Stay Untouched: If a killer dominates and wipes out a team early, the match ends instantly—no waiting around. If 3 survivors die early, the timer immediately shuts off, the Hatch spawns, and the standard live rules take over.
I feel like this gives a healthy, guaranteed floor to match lengths. Killers can finally drop Pop or Pain Res and run fun chase or info builds because they know they have guaranteed time to play. On the flip side, survivors have an incredibly engaging, live-game objective system that rewards them with extra bloodpoints and faster escapes if they actively choose to participate. What do you guys think of integrating the Archive Glyphs directly into the core trial balance? Let's discuss.
I wanted to address issues an hopefully make this alot more understanable without making the game to complicated or adding more to the game i would love to hear yall's thoughts.
