H.P Lovecraft stories
Have you ever heard of H.P Lovecraft, or the Lovecraftian horror genre but never knew what it was about? Or just trying to find out where the genre started from?
Years ago i found The complete works of H.P Lovecraft, on amazon for just 1$. I've been reading it for years off and on and it may have been the most value i've ever gotten out of 1$ in my entire life. I've reached the final story in the entire collection and decided to try recommending it on here since dbd is a horror hall of fame. And to my surprise the collection has actually gone down in price to less than 1$!
So if you ever had any interest in reading the original stories of H.P Lovecraft, than this is on Amazon and can be downloaded as an ebook that requires the Kindle app.
I hope someday we can get a Lovecraftian chapter in dbd, perhaps even H.P Lovecraft as a survivor himself

Nearly 19000 pages of stories, ranging from short stories to full blown novels.
What aspects of HP Lovecraft do you find make the books stand out most to you as a reader?
The wording in the books certainly stands out as if they are from another time being almost a century old.
Then theres the way that there is a bit of racism but its not meant in an offensive way it seems like it was just normal terminology back then.
Also he often made his stories based on someone telling you of past horrible events leading up to the conclusion of what happens to them afterwords.
The way he discribes surroundings can often get rather confusing with the older terminology, but it still seems easy to mentally picture.
He also tends to explain things as being too terrible to describe which leaves the reader to their own imaginations, rather than it feeling rushed, it makes it feel more sinister.
And mostly the way he makes the reader feel like the human in the story is insignificant compared to whatever they are up against, often making the story end in dispair/hoplessness/insanity. Rarely ever any "good" endings.
My favorite one is about the Germans in the submarine somewhere before world war 1. Where they took an American gunship prisoner, then let them swim back to their ship only to shoot them in the back. One of the bodies floated near the sub and had an artifact that they took. Then one of the Germans saw the body with the artifact - flip over and swim down. Later in the story only 2 men were left as they were all going mad and killing themselves or eachother. While going down in the sub to where the artifact was subconciously leading them, they saw out the windows of the sub in the dark what they thought were dolphins swimming alongside the sub. Yet started to question why they were still following as they said dolphins couldn't swim that deep. Then one of the 2 men lost his mind as well saying they weren't dolphins, they were the dead americans they killed. Eventualy 1 guy remained and stopped the sub on the bottom of the ocean (because it broke down), got out and started walking to the giant under water temple the artifact was pulling them towards. And thats the end leaving you to wonder what he found down there, how much longer he survived etc.
Yeah, I'm a huge Lovecraft fan. What's your favorite story? What "god" do you think is the most terrifying?

I think Azathoth is probably the most terrifying lol, as for the favorite story : The Temple. Which had the German submarine crew.
Nice. For me the scariest is prolly Hastur, if you don't count him since he was added by Derleth I'd prolly say Yog-Sothoth. Favorite story is The Mound (the one with the underground race and the headless ghost)
