Why are there no unwritten rules for survivor?

There's a dozen or so things you're not allowed to do as killer at punishment of being cried at for an hour, but this doesnt seem to translate at all in the other direction. Why is it kosher for survivors to employ whatever miserable and degenerate strategies they want?

Bhvr lean into this by canonising a lot of these complaints in wide reaching balance changes

I'll add a few more. Using exhaustion perks, flashlights/bangs, boil over, sabo, having a healthy marriage, crouching, trying to save in end game, heal/cj/dumb tech, completing more than one gen before the killer gets their first down, bringing a tool box.

    "having a healthy marriage"

Finally, I'm good at something in this game 😅

Well in theorie there are some unwritten rules if you want to play perfectly nice at least for me:

Don't tbag, don't stay in the gate if you don't have to, don't vaultspam, don't wait by hatch, don't follow me around to get chased, don't use overly insane offerings like badham, eyries or garden of joy (neutral maps like mac millian are okay). In the end I don't expect anyone to play by this rules especially because I don't do it as killer myself xD

I'm curious how does the community enforce rules besides complaining about playstyles?

    Simple:

they don't. They'll throw bad comments or insults at you, but besides that laughable "punishment" there's nothing they can and will do against you. Most people complaining are just really two sided in my experience, they'll most of the time try to throw you on some map favoring them with some build explizit for this map and then tbag you at the gate or mid match telling you how bad you are, that's exactly why I don't restrict myself at tunneling and camping. You'll just don't get anything from playing nice xD

    Here are a few rules:

    • Do the gen in front of my face instead of running for your life and suffer the consequences.
    • Bring a map offering and prepare to have the less fun you can possibly imagine out of a game.
    • Break my first hook attempt and it's four-slug-city for the team.
    • Playing a gens-before-friends game will not work as well as you hope.
    • Play against your team and you'll be the first one to die. Maybe the only one, just because.

I almost always punish these and I almost always get salt in the following chat. It's kind of the cherry on top.

those are my rules in a nutshell… The only thing I might make an exception to would be sabo hook (unless it's one of THOSE teams, in that case "no pity, no remorse, no fear") and i would add people that abuse perks/stuff like styptic agent, brand new part and flashlights with strong addons and basekit bt in order to waste your time (if i'm going for the healthy survivor and you bodyblock on purpose, you asked to be tunneled)

Basically: if people think one side isn't playing the game the way it should be played, they make the game miserable.

This can be killers just leaving survivors on the ground to slowly bleed out at the end game (and then picking them up at the last moment), or survivors just hiding to hold the killer in the game as long as possible.

The other method is just refusing to play. It doesn't feel that good to 'win' if the other side just blatantly goes AFK.

The "rulebooks" existed for both killers and survivors when the game launched. And the community was small enough it was generally self managing to prevent "rulebreaking" behavior.

Killers weren't supposed to block the only unhook spot (og face camping), not tunnel, not excessively slug, not bring the mori that didn't even require hooks (you died on first down).

Survivors, in turn, weren't supposed to run actual infinite loops, sabo hooks permanently, use the BNP that instantly completed any gen from 0.

If you notice, almost all of the "survivor rules" were deleted or made base kit so long ago that almost no one remembers they even existed. Meanwhile, after 8 years you can still camp hooks, just have to be 11m away. Oh no, the horror.

I started playing Dec 2016. Had the rule breakers taken over by then because everything you just list was common and unabashed.
