Why are poorly designed maps a thing when they know about the issues?
If you've seen the details of the upcoming official DbD tournament, you know that the Devs actually know which maps are good and which are not. They let you play on certain maps and guess what. No Badham, no Eyrie, no Garden of Joy, no The Game, no Cowshed, no RPD, No Red Forest. Instead you have to play on maps like Dead Dawg, Wreckers Yard, Coal Tower and Midwich. It seems like they know about these ridiculously poorly designed maps, but for some reason they still let them exist as they are.
Certainly the maps and the tournaments are not created by the same team (at least I hope so), but still there must be some kind of communication between them. It can't be that the one team has a clue, but the people without a clue are designing the maps.

I like how they still think Coal Tower is balanced. But yeah, all those maps being banned? I mean, who could have seen that coming?
They've been systematically revisiting maps individually (haddonfield, for ex) and introducing new tiles nearly every mid chapter. Not to mention that every person has a different idea of what 'fixing maps' even means. There are certainly players at the extremes who want either just the basement to spawn and not the map, or every map should have as many pallets as the game.
Also, knowing something needs fixing doesn't mean it can be changed instantly.
I'd love to see anyone who complains about map balance come up with a unique map design. You can always slot in tiles into the rng that drastically change the strength of the map.
If you compare Coal Tower to everyone other map in the game, then of course it seems balanced.
It's the same reason why people call Dead Dawg Saloon a killer sided map because if you compare it to every other map in the game then of course it seems killer sided.
Older realms like MacMillan and Coldwind have the issue of being largely rng messes. Those maps can swing too hard in either direction depending on the game decides to spawn tiles. Which is why I like the direction of newer maps having more stable rng spawns even if they have their own balance issues.
It's SWF where all survivors have voice chat at the convention, right?
Balance is a difficult thing.
That tournament as a whole is going to be a mess. It's unfortunate that every high profile tournament (BOTB and this one) insists on these bizarre non-standard comp rules. A lot of teams are scrambling because killers and survivors for each team are playing simultaneously, but many teams have a killer main who also doubles as a main roster survivor. So a bunch of teams are going to have subs in one role or the other. This is so bizarre.
