So much for a meta shift

this "meta shift" just made the game extremely boring, every game you go to the first you hear is a boon and then gen rushing, that's it

and is nobody gonna talk about the fact that a survivor can just boon a hex and the best thing is, YOU DON"T EVEN GET THE NOTIFCATION is just poofs, until realize that ur hex is gone like 4 mins later

its generally annoying thinking your hex is still up, not that people play with hexes anymore thanks to the worst placements that exist

and i still despise boons, just infinite bs, and the best part you can multiple boons across, yea very balance and fair BHVR, they are still annoying to deal because NOT EVERYONE IS A NURSE, revert the damn nerf on circle of healing and just make it so the boons timeout or break after certain usage

and i dunno if its me but i think the boon sound is bugged because they are extremely silent,

infinite stuff does not belong in DBD, heck ruin was just nerfed so it disables itself after one death BUT BOONS STAY FOREVER?

and don't even get me started on shadowstep on small maps, its stupid, extremely stupid and u don't even have time to turn it off when prove thyself exists

ngl i do hate somethings this game, but i swear if i could delete anything i would remove Mikaela from existence, the amount of problems she caused for this game are uncountable and yet for some reason people think that having infinite healing with the minimum amount of skill checks and the unbreakbles is very fair, but you know a few life patches for lower tier killers NO VERY UNFAIR, GAME IS KILLER SIDED

and im not saying because im losing too fast, hell i just went on a 20 kill streak, but after quitting the game my brain just couldn't stop hearing the sound of boons and megs crying in pain while chasing them because they having prove thyself

and tbh if u get tunneled out of the game with a full boon loadout, u got no one but yourself to blame and devs for making it even a thing

the next thing that should be reworked are boons and maps

infinite healing, infinite breakables, no scratch marks, the speed boost that i barely see and imagine an SWF

3 survivors with them and they have em in different places, yea good luck playing the game and oh yea a prove thyself on the top of it

the only way i managed to keep em in check is because i had a massive terror on doc, if not for him it was an insta ggs

  • If you STILL struggle as Killer, that is on you. 4 Boons is not even a good build, there is 1 good Boon-Perk. 1 okish Boon-Perk and two terrible Boon-Perks. You can clearly get a better build than this.

But I agree, there was not much of a Meta-Shift. Survivor-Meta got shaken up, because many Perks are not worth running (and never have been) and some Perks got nerfed just for the sake of removing them from the Meta.

Killer-Meta on the other hand is still 4 Slowdown, no Meta-Shift at all. Just different Perks, same outcome.

EDIT: If you dont realize that your Hex is gone, you have a pretty bad awareness... Maybe work on this one first before you complain that Killer is soooo hard...

i think u misunderstood, if it gets booned there is no notification and when u are running something like devour or lullaby which tend to be off until you hook, yea u won't notice for a while , if it just gets broken sure i will notice and there is a a sound

and let me get this straight infinite unbreakable and no scratch marks are bad, since when?

Infinite unbreakable with no scratch marks are very situational and a 2% movement speed isn't going to help a lot. The only good boon is circle of healing which has been nerfed and is fine.

Your really exaggerating how good these boons are.

No, I did not misunderstand. But it is not really hard to pay attention to your own Perks...

And Exponential is not "infinite Unbreakable". It is "Get up if the Killer decides to slug you, which is more unlikely with nerfed DS, while being in a Boon-Area and without the Killer snuffing the Boon". Which is way weaker.

And Shadow Step is the okish-Perk. Exponential and Dark Theory are the terrible Boon-Perks.

  • Circle is the only Boon worth its slot and time investment, the others are mostly as forgotten as most perks. Nerf Circle more and not only will it too be forgotten, but all you'll see is more and more med-kits (which are better than Circle in most cases mind you), which you then of course would want to be nerfed as well, until survivors don't have any viable way of consistently healing apart from healing each other, and solo queue will be an even more nightmarish place for it.

It is true that Circle is a good perk and that now after the nerfs for Self-Care and other meta perks, its usage is seeing a spike. I do think there could have been better ways to balance Boons as a mechanic in general (which would however have to have come with individual buffs for all of them but Circle), but I also don't see Circle as particularly problematic, not after the nerfs from 100 to 50%. Finding and blessing a totem and traversing the map into the Boon area to heal are still huge time investments, let alone if the killer can snuff it without going out of their way much for it. I guarantee that in many matches where you are upset with Boons, you would be having a worse time if the survivors instead of setting up Boons and healing would spread out and pump out gens every second they have.

If you encounter and despise Boons this much, bring Shattered Hope + Pentimento. Not only will you undo all of the time survivors spent looking for and blessing totems, but you will turn them into something that makes gens take more than 2 minutes to complete each, and at 2 stacks even makes Circle heals take 30 seconds. And the survivor may not even realize where the Penti Hex is, because they only see their Boon get snuffed, they don't get a notification that it got destroyed either, so you can turn that situation which is annoying for you on its head. Granted, I think Shattered Hope is another one of those perk-based band-aid "solutions" for a problem that should have been tackled with base gameplay design instead, and I also think that given how specific its use case is, it should do something more, such as at the very least reveal Boon totem auras when within their range such that killers don't have to spend time searching for them. But yeah, try something along the lines of Shattered Hope, Pentimento, Plaything, Gift Of Pain - I've been using that sometimes, to great effect.

You could also consider playing Plague, who doesn't care about Circle (or Shadow Step really, for that matter).

I do think that ridiculously enough, the SWF vs. solo balancing problem is at the core of the issue with Boon design, something BHVR should have tackled long ago, not introduce a new category of perks that exacerbate precisely that problem.

In a coordinated SWF, Circle is still borderline busted, and Exponential definitely at least somewhat problematic, whereas in solo groups, Circle is just about good enough to be used and the other Boon perks more so stuff you'd bring for fun, they are not worth spending slots on when compared against other perks that could be in those slots instead. What's worse is that in an SWF, the survivors can coordinate their builds and use of those builds, which elevates the Boon perks' value on multiple levels.

First off, they can have a dedicated Booner, meaning that they only have one person running any Boon perks. In a solo group, you never know if and how many people are running Boon perks, and as such it can and does happen that nobody has one because they all hope others do, or that multiple people have some and as a result they are often basically wasting perk slots, because most of the time you really don't need or benefit from having 2-4 Boons up with the same effect. They're also wasting a lot of time, with multiple people now searching for and blessing totems. In an SWF, not only do you not have that, but you can even have other people tell the Booner where they saw a totem. And you can also agree not to cleanse totems, something that in solo can make it more difficult to find totems, take away what would otherwise would be valuable Boon spots, or even take away all options to set up Boons altogether.

SWF build coordination also means all survivors can bring Botany Knowledge to heal in 14 seconds within Circle, or others in 7. Or med-kits to heal even faster in Circle, making mid-chase heals feasible. Or Soul Guards with their Exponential. Bite The Bullets with their Circle + Shadow Step. Simply put, all the perk synergies there exist with Boons can be optimally set up in SWF without needing to bring the Boons yourself.

As a solo survivor, you don't even know what Boons are active on a totem before getting into its range, another thing widening the solo vs. SWF gap on their value. You could be running across the map wanting to heal at a Boon, only to find out it's Dark Theory. You could be running into a Boon area mid-chase hoping it's Shadow Step, but it's just Circle.

And then there's of course coordinating the use of the perks, where SWFs can tactically set up their Boon locations based on their communicated strategy and play in ways to make the most use of them. For example, they can place the Boon in one corner of the map where they already finished gens, and all agree to always run back there if they get hit. They can coordinate to take hits for each other reliably and heal back up consistently. They can go down under pallets and make sure there's another survivor around to occupy the killer for a while, such that the downed survivor can pick themselves up with Exponential.

I think one good change for Boons as a mechanic would be that any 1 survivor can only bless any 1 totem 1 time per trial. So if it gets snuffed after they blessed it, they cannot bless that same totem again and have to find another totem to bless. That would mean any survivor can only at most bless 5 times per trial, and they have to spend much more time searching for totems because they can't just re-bless the one they already know the location of. It would also mean only having 1 dedicated Booner is less sure-fire of a way to get Boon value. As I've said though, I think any such base design nerfs would have to go along with buffs for all Boons but Circle. And those should be getting buffed anyway, at least Dark Theory and Exponential.

Another thing that would help and is needed in general are SWF nerfs to make the balancing disparity less of a problem. Particularly, there should be perk and item/add-on limitations for SWFs, such that any perk and item/add-on can only be present once in a given pre-made group.

  • The meta was never going to change in terms of killers bringing gen regression and survivors bringing second chance perks. It's just how the game is in order to succeed in your role.

The only thing that's changed is the perks that have become the new meta. It's not Pop and Ruin any more, now it's Overcharge and Call of brine. Off the record has replaced DS. Sprint burst has replaced Dead hard. Prove Thyself is becoming popular because of increased gen repair times.

In a year, two years are we just going to see another shake up where the meta shifts but not really as we're just doing the same thing but with different perks again.

  • Survivor team will lose if the first survivor dies before the 4th Gen done. If a survivor down too early and Killer decides to camp, its a 3K with hatch escape.

Tunneling / camping / gen rushing are the core problems of this game. The big update soften them, but fix nothing.

Killers' meta will always be 4 slowdown to fix gen rushing

Survivors' meta will always be 2nd chance to fix tunneling / camping.

It seems to me you're more complaining about SWF abusing certain builds rather the boon perks itself.

IMAGINE a SWF bringing petrified oaks and sending you to midwich or RPD with boil over/UB/flip-flop/power struggle/tenacity/breakout?

    IMAGINE a SWF bringing 4 BNPs/prove thyself/built to last/streetwise?

IMAGINE a SWF bringing flashlights/head on/vigil/DS and abusing double lockers on Ormond/ red forest/ dead dawg saloon??

Unbelievable, right? Definitely never happened wink wink.

While all of the builds above can be abused by SWFs, they're useless in solo q because you have zero communication. And if you want the perks/boons to be balanced around SWF only, DEAD BY DAYLIGHT can pretty much change it's name to DEAD BY SWF. Solo survivor is without a doubt the weakest role in this game and boons can help at least a little bit since they can give my teammates information on where I am and/or where they can heal me/themselves.

CoH is the only strong tool solo survivors have left now after the patch. Boon Exponential is pretty much useless in most scenarios. I boon a totem. Then I have to make sure the killer doesn't know about it. Then I have to make sure I go down in the boon's range. Then I have to make sure the killer doesn't pick me up immediately and that's where my "evil plan" fails because none of my solo teammates are rushing to me from the other end of the map to distract the killer so I can unbreakable and run away. Boon dark theory... what even is this? Last time I saw it being used was after sadako rising DLC released. And only by Yoichis who were going for the adept. Boon shadow step? Pretty balanced perk. Especially because YOU KNOW it's shadow step when you see a survivor leaving no scratch marks and many killers don't even rely on scratch marks that much but require line of sight instead. The way you talk about boons makes it seem like they're ALWAYS available and survivors ALWAYS get use out of them while that's certainly not the case. All of this has to be set up. Just like scratched mirror Myers who will most likely bring a Lery's or Midwich or RPD offering. Some builds only work in SWF, some killers perform a lot better on certain maps. It is what it is.

P.S.: While you on the topic of boons being extremely broken on small maps, I'd really be interested in hearing your opinion about starstruck nurse on Midwich
