Address Camping, and One More Anti-Tunnel Change

I think this game is going in a good direction, despite a chunk having a piss poor response to it.

However, while the current changes were good, they weren't enough to properly address tunneling and camping. And now, since there are people who rely on those tactics, they will double down on it.

If Camping isn't addressed, this will continue to be an issue. Here is my suggested changes to double-down on this anti-tunnel and anti-camping package;

A) Ritual Circle

Each hook will now have a ritual circle that develops around it as the Entity grains progress. After 10 seconds on the hook, a small, ashy circle will develop around the hook in a 4 meter radius.

As long as the Killer remains within 24 meters of the hook during the Summoning Phase, this radius increases by 3 meters in intervals of 3 seconds. If the Killer leaves the 24 meter range of the hook, the circle expansion slows, instead growing 1 meter every 10 seconds. The growth continues through the phases until it reaches to a maximum of 26 meters around the hook.

If the Killer is within the Ritual Circle, the Struggle Timer pauses. It remains paused until the Killer exits the radius.

PERK CHANGES:

Kinship: When you're within 16 meters of a hook, or within the Ritual Circle of a hook, Kinship activates. When active, the current phase of the Survivor pauses and gains time for 26/30/34 seconds.

B) Faster Off-Hook

The target needs a big burst of speed akin to Sprint Burst or Balanced Landing. The 7% is nice but it doesn't help when the Killer is already sniffing your ass counting to five.

Having a large burst of speed away from the hook gives the unhooked an opportunity to get to a pallet loop or make good distance. They can keep the 5 seconds endurance and 7% speed buff but they need more for those scenarios where the killer is proxy camping and tunneling off hook.

  • Interesting idea with the ritual circle.

Honestly, the majority of the killer buff was fine and healthy! The fact that it's being exploited for hard core tunneling and face camping is what's taken this patch into the dumpster.

Had the devs actually resolved to tackle those two issues genuinely? This patch could have revitalized the gameplay.

Allowing these two scummy tactics increase to this level without acting on it is absolutely decimating the survivor player experience.

I agree these are good changes, but they didn't do enough to address camping and everyone is overreacting.

  • If the Killer is within the Ritual Circle, the Struggle Timer pauses. It remains paused until the Killer exits the radius.

This would make unhooks completely free, especially if a survivor could be in that circle and still have the timer pause. I'm imagining scenarios where the survivors abuse the heck out out of this just looping near or literally around the hook.

    How?

The struggle timer has nothing to do with survivors dashing for the hook. If you aren't camping, the zone would be tiny if you seek to punish it.

Face it, this is only an issue if your goal is to try and get a survivor to stage 2 on the hook on your first hook; as a Killer this shouldn't be happening, unless of course you're camping. Or the Survivors are brain-dead incompetent.

You can punish them by downing the unhooker if you're looking for a hook trade but otherwise, oh well, don't camp.

  • I keep saying this, but nerfing killers in order to curb tunneling and camping is absolutely the wrong way to go. The weaker killers are the more they will camp. The proper way to address this issue is to buff perks that give killers incentives to move around. BBQ, PR, Pop, and Ruin were all extremely healthy perks that got nerfed for no reason in this patch, which is why the camping and tunneling increased.

  • Sep and Nov 2016 they tested similiar mechanic, static circle instead dynamically expanding, survivors abused it so hard devs decided this mechanic will never work.

As opposed to a mechanic that is currently abused by killers?

Because camping is absolutely an abuse by the Killer. You aren't supposed to be camping the hook.

Campong is a strategy, not a mechanic.

There is no rule or mechanic to enforce that rule against camping. Thats why the devs tried to test it on those ptb years ago.

Survivors used those mechanics in unintended ways and thus survivors are the reason survivors cant have nice things.

Please don't BS and gaslight people into thinking Camping is a "strategy" because its not. The Devs have already gaslit themselves into doing this for years.
