Trickster at High MMR. Please give tips.

So i've gotten into playing trickster, and he's quite fun to play as (eventhough he's slow af without his blades) against survivors that are not so experienced. But my mmr is slowly increasing with him and i'm noticing that survivors are now breaking line of sight with me a lot, hugging the wall and running making it harder for me to hit them with blades. So i'm having a hard time catching up. Any tips on how to play Trickster against really high mmr survivors? Also should i be patrolling gens as much since he has poor map pressure and is really slow? And how to strategically use his "main event" power?

I wanna get good with him since he's kind of a stylish killer lol (even though a survivor called me gay for playing trickster, lmao)

I know he's a wallmart version of huntress, but still.

  • Not much you an really do with a 4.4 M1 Killer

  • Hmm okay, so trickster against good survivors is a big no?

  • Can't play lower tier killers the way you play stronger ones.

Be more sluggy, pressure hooks til second stage and try to tunnel one out early is your best hope on killers like Trickster or CLown.

You wont get a 12 hook game so get it how you can

That's what i was thinking, he might stand a chance with proxy camping and making the game a 3v1.

  • Proxy camp, 3 gen, and don't be afraid to slug. Also, don't miss.

  • You need to be creative with how you play some loops by using the line of sight breakers to your advantages too and finding out what holes you can throw through in loops to get some free hits. It takes some time and practice to get that down.

Try not to continuously hold your knives when chasing unless you have line of sight or know you will have line of sight around the corner due to his decreased movement speed. Caged Heart Shoes add-on is my baby for this and helps a lot. You could also use Trick Blades or Edge of Revival Album add-ons to have an advantage in some loops, but I tend to run Fizz-Spin Soda for the increased throw rate.

You kind of have to be lucky with Main Event due to the limited duration it has to activate. I'd use it to save some knives or if you caught a survivor out in the open with it as it shuts them down easily. If you know that your Main Event will not be able to down them after they use some obstacle in your way, immediately end it so you can catch up more easily. This just comes with map knowledge. Additionally, it is okay to end some chases to restock knives as downing someone as Trickster becomes significantly harder without knives unless you can pull off an m1 mind game.

I'd recommend Pain Resonance as his gen slowdown and it works nicely on him. You could pair that with Dead Man's Switch as well if you want a better gen combo. This helps to reduce time wasted from occasionally patrolling and kicking gens.

  • Camp the everliving ######### out of a survivor in a 3 gen. Pray you get a decent map. Run corrupt + agi or any defensive perk.

Or, you can play trickster for fun and not to win. Which IMO is a much better way of playing one of the worst killers in the game.

  • This might actually be bad advice. But I really don't hold down the button to shoot.

  • Game is already very very survivor sided. No point handicapping yourself as a lower tier killer. or you can just try to use Iridescent Photocard.

  • This thread is so pessimistic and inaccurate that it actually hurts.

Trickster is very hard to master. At a higher mmr, it becomes less about running in a straight line and more about using loop mindgames to land hits with knives. The best part about this is that with knives Trickster will eventually down survivors quicker than having to succumb to delays thanks to pallets. That is one huge advantage Trickster has over other killers.

The downside is that, again, Trickster is *very* hard to master. He's flashy and stylish so of course he's played a lot but since he has a high skill floor you get a lot of layers playing messily.

I recommend watching these three clips to get an idea of what Im talking about:

Happy Birthday to Trickster & All-kill :) Here are some highlights from the past year! #deadbydaylight #dbdclips #dbdtrickster #fyp #xyzbca

This streamer has got to be one of the best Trickster's. As you can see, he got creative with throwing knives to land those 6 hits. To add, he would even take advantage of tiny holes in loops to secure them. It takes practice but with patience and creativity you'll get there in no time!

And to those who are saying he's a bad killer, refer to Otz' tier list. He's not that bad.

  • the most reliable way to use main event is simply to camp during it's duration. wait until the gauge is at 1% then activate it, then camp until it deactivates. if people try to rescue, they should get downed. that should be 1 free stage if you play it correctly. don't make it too obvious, because if you only stay very close to the survivor for that long amount of time, the survivors will identify your strategy and adapt on the spot. you have infinite range, so keep at a medium distance (i would say about 12-20 metres) while patrolling nearby generators. don't break line of sight with the suppressed survivor for too long. speaking of line of sight, be sure to hook the survivor on a hill if possible. hill hooks are very easy to camp especially if you are a ranged killer.

All of these clips feature survivors running in a very inneficient way against the trickster, not baiting the knifes even tho he has a certain oatter when he starts throwing, movimg away from hiw wall loops or running them in a way tha guaratees a knife hit per corner, really bad plays from the survivors part.

Everything trickster can do huntress can beat him at it (probably camping in the exception), she can also guarantee more reliable hits, and in regards to otz tierlist I do not consider his opinion to be facts at all specially since doesn't really face good teams on a regular basis.

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed reading your suggestions and feedback with a more optimistic approach

  • Run the increased movement speed while throwing knives addons.

You'll notice the difference in chase 100%

  • I’ve had success against good teams playing trickster with Lethal Pursuer, Corrupt, No Way Out and Iron Maiden. Down your first survivor quickly as possible and just proxy camp trying to maintain a three gen. Trickster is really good at camping hooks from a distance forcing survivors to either stick gens or trade and if they trade this is where main event should be timed carefully as in pop it when a healthy survivor is going for the unhook if you only need to throw 1-2 more knives to activate main event. Also playing trickster on M&K is 1000x easier then on controller.

  • Find tiny points where you can aim knives while chasing.

Pay attention to your knives number when you are throwing quickly and a lot.

Some loops where you can't get any value from knives, drop chase and go for other survivor.

If you will keep chase, don't try to aim knives and remember you can't do anything until pallet is destroyed.

Remember loops where you can't use your power.

Clock tower pallets in Midwich Elementay School is an example.

Don't use Main Event where survivor can hide line of sight very easily.

TheWorstDwight is definitely one of the best people you can look up to.

And he doesn't bite either, I'm learning Trickster, asked him for tips, and I'm improving a lot thanks to them.

From my experience I'll only say to not hold throwing knives, but tap it, throw one by one, unless it's a zone where recoil won't hurt you as much.

Don't be afraid to proxy camp.

Closed maps can be your best friend.

Altruism kills, especially on this killer.

Asking people on forums isn't a good idea, because of entitled survivor mains who dislike all killers, if they could they would probably give you tips how to off yourself.

LET ANYONE PLAY ANY KILLER THEY WANT. If you don't have any viable tip to say, move on. Just because you dislike a killer, it's not a reason to tell people that they should pick a different killer.
