How is the state of boil over even a debate?

How on actual earth do people think this is healthy or in any way balanced for the game?

Have you not seen the perk work?

How is there even a debate on if it has counterplay or not? Somebody with 2 braincells could load into a match with a main building and see that it has zero.

It's not even situational to RPD, boil over is useful on majority of maps alone. Add a few other perks into the mix like sabo, exponential, and Discord VC and you can get absurd use out of it on almost every map.

Eyrie, RPD, Midwich, Dead dawg, Ormond, Sanctum, Grim pantry, Pale rose, Mothers dwelling, Lerys, Temple, Ward, Blood lodge, Thompson, Ironworks, Coal tower, Haddonfield (when enabled).

All of these maps have either incredibly easy boil over abuse spots or have spots where a little extra is required, but still can be abused to the extent where you're in godmode until you bleed out.

If you honestly think this perk is even remotely healthy for the game you either haven't seen the perk when in action or are so blinded by entitlement you can't acknowledge how busted it is.

I hate opinion shaming but oh my god this has shown me how many people are not as good and "for balance" as they think they are.

  • Heated. The state is heated :P

  • Because Survivors love their OP perks while screaming to nerf NoED and yelling that the game and forums are clearly Killer-sided. 🙃

  • It's both a mediocre Perk with meager effect and an unbalanced, unhealthy unhookable mess. One game it can do nothing and in the other one, you don't get hooked the entire game

Boil Over isn’t OP. If players are trying to win, Boil Over isn’t impactful at all. The problem is that Boil Over incentivizes gameplay that drags games out for generation and is just boring for everyone. Boil Over honestly needs a complete rework because there’s just no hope for the perk in its current form.

Boil Over can, on most maps, render Survivors literally unhookable. That's the definition of OP.

I generally agree with your posts, but constantly spewing out 'Us vs Them' posts doesn't fix anything. It's just annoying

They’ll eventually bleed out, so they will lose the match. What I’m trying to say is what is healthy or fun about that gameplay? Fun may mainly be subjective but this is one of those instances where it’s objectively unfun.

  • It's definitely not healthy for the game. It needs a rework.

Sorry, just somewhat bitter over these last few updates:

    1. Pentimento being basically a non-perk, since it was added around the same time as Boons. Boons, which encourage Survivors to NOT Cleanse totems. Thus, a perk relying on Cleansing was added at the same time as anti-cleansing. Feels like a middle finger.
    2. CoH was seen to be OP, still added. 'Will be looked at'. Sure.
    3. CoH was 'nerfed'. The nerf SOUNDS big (25%) but it's 4 seconds. This feels like ANOTHER slap to Killers; just something done to appease them while carefully not removing the problems with the perk.
    4. And now Boil Over; seen as a problem on the PTB. Still brought over live. Yet another ANOTHER slap to Killers.

Even if it's not actually true; the optics of these last few updates paint a loud 'We don't care about Killers' picture.

I know, it definitely feels pretty bad right now, but it's not overall that bad. Individually, some Killers have been hit hard recently, but overall, Killers are doing semi well, better than usual. Just because it, one point (Mid-Chapter of September 2021), was better doesn't mean that it's not that good now

    Haha it’s all good

  • I don't even plan to use the perk but I just take issue with people complaining about something like Boil Over while having absolutely no issue with things that are more busted (Pain Resonance/Dead Man's Switch combo) or even worse, arguing about how "unfun" it is as if this community has even cared about "fun" in this game. If anyone here truly cared about fun, hey wouldn't slug or run things like "Sloppy" because it drags the game out or is boring to play against as most people are saying about Boil Over.

The arguments just fall flat because not many people here actually care about fun with the playstyles they encourage

PR/DMS isn't that bad. It's only somewhat oppressive on Artist when she's straight up facecamping. If DMS had a requirement of like being 12 meters away from a Hook to activate, it wouldn't be that bad

For dms pr i just let go of the gen before pr activates then hop back on. It's not given me much problems. Boil over slap that on any map with a sabotuer user or someone with boon exponential it completly blocks hooking sometimes and encourages slug camp. (Which we wanna move away from toxicity not encourage it)

  • Iron Grasp and Agitation (either or both)

That and considering that 95% of most maps won't require you to drop somewhere to get a hook, takes away arguably the most powerful part of the perk.

I always let go of gens before hooks but PR still a powerful and annoying perk on its own. Worse when combined with DMS.

As far as the situation you described, that's so situational and rare. How often do you see anyone running Saboteur or Exponential or both?(I run it but pretty much no one else i am on a team with does). What you're describing would take coordination from a team intending to play toxic and they wouldn't need Boil Over to pull that off if that's what they wanted. Realistically this perk won't have all that much value on the majority of maps

Personally I've found the stagger is the most consistently effective part of the perk against me. I don't think I've ever lost a hook to dropping down while carrying someone using Boil Over, but I've lost a few hooks to the stagger forcing me into obstacles so I lost enough time that I couldn't reach a nearby hook. If they're hitting their Great skill checks and also have Boil Over it can be difficult to even walk forward sometimes.

  • On this forum people debate about the right to DC and ruin 4 other peoples fun. Just about anything can be turned into a senseless debate here -.-

  • I think it's a good thing, personally

The forums and community shouldn't be an echo-chamber. People are entitled to their takes, no matter how hilariously out of touch, misunderstood or silly they may be.

You see the echo-chamber stuff with content creators sometimes, you get people who say that such and such said xyz so it must be true and if you say you think they are wrong and so on then backlash ensues. Sometimes. It's def not a super common thing

  • I agree with being unhealthy, because it literally serves for SWF groups to bully the killer. They're not doing gens, they're not trying to juke well, they're just getting downed in a great height spot.

  • What if it just prevented the killer from seeing hook auras at all, instead of only within 16m? And then remove the 25% on drop effect.

Would that be enough to make it at least semi-useful in your average game without creating hook deadzones?

  • Because if it's run by itself in solo it's situationally useful. Run with other perks to combo with it in solo it's less situational, but still hardlyfool proof. It's only truly useful in a swf which builds around it. Add to this there are plenty of counters and it shakes up the meta.As for it being healthy, that's easily the most debatable part as it's entirely subjective.
